Black Love is my favorite
-
ironically, i think their latest album is their most consistent by a country mile. i've never been able to enjoy a full album of theirs until this latest one.
-
Who wrote it. Both those songs on Smile tarnish the album.
But let's be honest. Depth was rarely the BB strong point. They didn't sell depth in fact in general they sold shallow.
LouieB
true... but have you listened to this new song? my GOD it's pure dreck
-
i like this album a lot more than I expected to based on the early singles, and I'd take it over the last two White Stripes albums, but it's still hit or miss in spots (the lyrics to Sixteen Saltines are rather terrible imo).
still a solid 7.5/10 record tho.
-
new single is atrocious.
it makes the lyrics to Barnyard and Vegetables sound deep.
the estate of Nikola Tesla should sue them
-
August 2nd i'll get my chance to see 'em live
-
i like it way more than I expected and more than the last 2 White Stripes albums, but it's still a bit hit or miss in spots.
-
by all accounts their live show is damn good, but sadly I have to say I'm only digging 4-5 songs off the full length a ton, and 3 of those are from last years EP .
it's *GOOD*, just not amazing for me. Hold On is clearly superior to the rest of their songs so far and I feel like it's a bit too slow/midtempo to hold my interest for more than a few songs at a time.
def rooting for them as I love everything ABOUT them, but I just really hoped to love the album way more than I do sadly.
-
dug some of fun.'s first record, but it's all a bit too emo-tinged for my taste these days.
kinda crazy how big 'We Are Young' has gotten since the Super Bowl commercial, which is funny since the single was released last September
-
i dig this one, but not feeling it nearly as much as the last 2 yet... only listened a couple times over the last few weeks though.
wish it had a few more uptempo tunes.
-
not surprisingly, it's great
-
Watched this again. This lineup has zero personality. He probably should have just done a solo project and not called it The Shins.
Marty was the only person in the old lineup worth watching on stage
that said... while i don't LOVE this new one by any means, it's about on par with Wincing for me (ie: loved 3-4 songs, dug 1-2 others, rest i could take or leave)
-
I have listened to it quite a few times. I admit I am an Andrew Bird fan, but I love it. Not on par with Eggs or Armchair, but real good.
i'm with you... def enjoy it more on the whole than Noble Beast. seems like his attempt to bridge the gap between his more classical/longer pieces and his more concise pop songs... it works pretty well for the most part.
-
love this more than the last one, that's for sure. i actually liked Useless Creatures, the instrumental bonus disc, way more than the proper Noble Beast (still pretty good record tho).
-
so... this is kind of amazing...
'No Fear' is the easy highlight for me so far, but i'm loving everything.
i'm just bummed that the deluxe version is CD only, cuz i'd much rather get this on vinyl.
-
i'd give D&D about a 6.5/10 personally, and my least favorite post '00 Bruce album prior to Working On A Dream
i appreciate the sentiment, but i found it to drag
-
if it would be another like Devils & Dust, no thank you
-
So I had to sneak a peak over the weekend... I will have to disagree wholeheartedly about it being below average, or disappointing... I absolutely love it so far. I can see how one might be looking for the poppier sound of their last two albums, but this one goes back to the Easy Beat and pre-Easy Beat days. It's very raw, very gritty, very free... Brilliant. Looking forward to picking up the hard copy today.
i like it more than the last one for sure... but not quite as much as We All Belong or Easy Beat
-
I have been enjoying First Aid Kit. Very nice harmonies.
indeed... didn't care much for their earlier stuff, but Mogis' production on this one is fantastic.
-
my faves are prolly a tie between Post War & Vincent, then Amnesia & Duets, Transistor & Hold Time (which i still quite love mind you)
-
i only cared for Ben's first solo LP and a couple songs on the EP's
i rarely listen to BFF anymore though, but hoping for something cool

Snagged a ticket to see her here in Minneapolis at the McGuire Theater. I've never been but it seems to be part of the Walker and a pretty intimate looking venue!
it's a great theater. holds around 400, should be awesome.

Thanks for the tip! That deal is too good to pass up. I listened to it once on Spotify and liked what I heard so far. FWIW, I loved Actor a lot more than Marry Me, which seems to be the minority opinion.
not necessarily... Pfork gave it a higher score. i liked a few songs a lot, but it seemed too overcooked and unfocused for me (and the tour for that album was even worse). and not as agressive or catchy as Marry me either (other than Marrow).
but man... this new one, she really hit it outta the park.
