  1. Wow...what a let down.

Not having known too much of Jay apart from what I'd seen on IATTBYH and in other incidental moments (especially the news, as of late), I am now so disappointed that I never had the chance to get to know the musician that he was (in his own right). It goes without saying that I really love and appreciate what he did in Wilco; it's just that I wish I had given him and his music a chance when he went his own way. I think all of us--Jay most of all--have been cheated out of the satisfaction (auditory and otherwise) that should've come along with his future endeavors. I have nothing but the utmost sympathy for his family, friends, and fans.

Rock on, man. See you in the next life.

  2. Do I...or don't I...

I told myself that I was going to wait until June 30 to listen to this. Is it worth waiting until at least June 15 (next time I see Wilco) to listen to these songs?

    :unsure

  3. Let me offer praise to those with enough wit to come up with the songtitle corrections. Best laughs I've had in a while!

"Subpoena Queen" definitely wins. Someone wanna take that further and make a tribute/parody out of it? :lol

edit: WAIT! I came up with one...

    "We're Just Fiends"

  4. I wonder which of those "woo" girls is morphogenesis. :lol

How bad was it? Was it a girly squeal or a hearty "WOOOOOO!?'

My friend and I were quite a few rows behind the mic, buried under a sea of people, so I hope it wasn't too overpowering.

I just couldn't get enough of that show! :stunned

  5. MCTS buses are pretty reliable--the route 80 goes from the airport to downtown, and lets off about 8 blocks from the theater. It's pretty cheap ($2-ish) compared to a cab ride...

I would've been willing to help you out, but I have kind of a big day at school and will probably not be available when you need me to be.

As for hotels, the ones that are downtown might be the only ones that are worth your consideration, as the rest of the hotels around here are kind of lost in the sprawl. Where have you checked so far?

  6. The day that I saw the Flaming Lips might be the happiest day of my life. It's so exhilarating to see--the (aforementioned) costumes, confetti, balloons, strobe lights, fog, Wayne in the bubble, and a crowd full of people just having fun...

I saw them at Lollapalooza 3 years ago, and the coolest part about it (to me) was having a sing along with several thousand other people in the middle of a park in Chicago. Loudest thing I ever heard!

Have fun--let us know what happens!

  7. I'm so glad my iTunes started pushing me to listen to Smog again. I'd forgotten how much I liked it, since I think it's been since high school (at least 3 years) that I listened to him last.

I feel a bit ashamed for only having A River Ain't Too Much to Love, so voy buscando por some of the songs/albums y'all have mentioned.

  8. So far my only glimpse into the new material is the couple of songs Jeff played at his solo show in Champaign...trying like hell to keep it that way.

Ditto, minus what I'll be seeing/hearing at the Pabst.

I love remembering the first time listening to an album, and the denouement of finally seeing the subject of all of the rumor/hype/excitement.

Consider me one of the abstinent.

  9. Anything by Phil Collins. I can laugh at all other questionable artists, but Phil is the Devil.

Also agreed. I couldn't run away fast enough from the countless memories of listening to his shit on EVERY roadtrip I ever took with my family. YUCK.

    Let me also throw

    Fergalicious

It's My Life - Bon Jovi

Man! I Feel Like a Woman - Shania Twain

    into the mix.

I would like to add, too, that I can't listen to anything by Kanye West without wanting to stab pencils through my eyes.

  10. A while back, I downloaded the YHF demos just to have Venus Stop the Train, and it's really getting to me that it cuts out at 3:11. There's definitely more song after that!

For all of you that have a copy of that song, does the actual recording end at that time, or is the song supposed to continue?

(Might it be that I had a bad download?)

  11. Usually, there's a well-marked line between the songs I really love and those songs that hit me really hard, that I can't listen to very often. A few songs straddle that line (and have been listened to quite a lot, lately)...

I crossed many states just to stand here now, my face all hot with tears

I crossed city, and valley, desert, and stream, to bring my body here

My history and future blaze bright in me and all my joy and pain

Go through my head on our mountain bed where I smell your hair again

One by one the teardrops fall as I write you

One by one my words come falling on the page

One by one my dreams are fading in the twilight

One by one my schemes are fading fast away

    I kept my distance

Because she fell in love with everyone

Smoking grass and taking Christmas trees

She fell in love with me

    I was polite to her

A soft sadness had her much more than her loneliness

and all of We're Just Friends.

    As for other bands,

Radiohead's House of Cards, Let Down, and (of course) Fake Plastic Trees

    August - Rilo Kiley

Happy - Jenny Lewis w/ Watson Twins

Do You Realize?? - Flaming Lips

    Now at Last - Feist

There are probably a few more, but these are the ones that I've never been able to get enough of, even if I feel less than chipper after listening to them. :stunned
