  1. I should add that the rest of the show was fun as well... :yes

One the most amusing parts for me came when the band started to play Born Alone only to very quickly realize that something was not right. I'm far from a guitar expert, but I assume that the guitar Jeff was handed for that song was in the wrong tuning because he stopped playing and then had to hand it over to his guitar tech for either a quick re-tune or another guitar in the right tuning (I didn't see which). But in the interim, Jeff sort of had to do some ad-libbing at the mike and that's always kind of awkward. This time the rest of the band got into the act as well, improvising a little 10- or 15-second bossa nova-style background music. You probably had to be there, but it was funny to these ears. :lol

And then there was the standing-sitting issue, which wasn't the source of friction that it can be at some theater shows when people are yelling at other people to sit down and whatnot. At the Schnitz, it seemed to be more a source of amusement...particularly to Jeff. You could practically see him smile to himself a bit when a big chunk of the crowd in the front part of the orchestra level immediately sank into their seats once the band started to play a slower song like Black Moon.

Jeff finally commented on it a few songs later when he poked a little fun at the audience for having the "greatest sitting-standing consensus" of any show he could remember. Whereas virtually the entire crowd had been standing during Impossible Germany, for example, once it became clear that the next song was going to be a slower one, almost everyone quickly and collectively took a seat. From the stage, it must have looked like a reverse wave or something.

Anyway, somehow that sitting-standing banter segued into Glenn being a Catholic but I'll let someone else fill in the blanks on that one... :unsure

Overall, a solid main set. I thought the sound was mixed well. It didn't seem quite as loud to me overall as some other shows, but that could have been because I was sitting a little further back and away from the stage monitors and amps. Impossible Germany stood out for me last night because of the good mix and Nels just always does something different with the solo despite having to play it every...single...night. And of the "new songs," I'm always a little surprised at how much I enjoy hearing Whole Love live and that hasn't changed yet. :pirate

Great, as always, to see so many familar faces in the PDX! :wave

I think you are who I walked up to at the end of the show and you knew my name....The After Show was really nice. It was great to say hi to the guys again and talk about the older songs they played that even a guy in front of us didn't know any of. :) The Catholic reference was fun! It was nice to see you again!

  2. I love the tattoo, excellent!

My husband had a camel tattoo on his chest, he got it before I met him.

I convinced him to get it covered up last summer.

I bet you are regretting that now....just think he could have been the first 'Wilco the album' tattoo person :)

  3. Hey there,

I see that there a number of PhotoWalks going on across the US on July 18th. I know several Via Chicago'ers enjoy taking photos and I just wondered if anyone had participated in one of the walks put on by Scott Kelby last year? I was interested in coming up to Chicago to go on one of them but they seem to be full. So my next question is would anyone in the area or near enough to drive down for a few hours (the event last 2 hours) be interested in doing one together? Or is anyone in any other area interested in doing one for a group of VC'ers? Seems like a fun idea for groups of us to meet up and have some fun! Also the leader would choose a route. They do offer prizes on the website if you decide to submit your photos. If we decide to set one up for Chicago we need a leader...we need to have a leader (at least for Chicago) by June 18th.

    The link is here.

  4. i'm late in replying..and only read the first part...but the store i work in has been selling vinyl for a while now...and there are a number of 'select stores' that also sell vinyl currently as well. Unfortunately we still haven't set an area up specifically for vinyl since we've been going through a number of changes and it hasn't been a priority. They are in baskets with the dvd's above all the cd's in order though :)

  5. Ok have gotten about 1/2 way through Columbine. If this was our book club book I think we'd be having some great conversations. It's opening my eyes to how much we don't learn about events that are so widely broadcast on national news. Seriously. Plus the insights are amazing. I've been recommending this book to everyone I talk to...Check it out!

  6. Unfortunately between workin both jobs today I didn't get to a record store. Too bad there wasn't one in the 4 block drive between my two jobs!

I had pre-ordered Ashes from Wilco online so I know that arrived a day or two ago but I haven't been home to pick it up.

  7. Columbine - by Dave Cullen. Eye opening. I can't believe it'll be 10 years on April 20. If their attacks had gone as planned it would've been deadlier than Oklahoma City.

I have that and will be starting it tonight. One of the guys I work with at the bookstore saw it and we talked and decided we'd both read it! It looks really interesting!

  8. do you think we'll ever get live streaming video at one of these things? too expensive, i guess. plus, would it just be one camera on lockdown the whole time? i mean, i'd be fine with that, but still...just curious.

    That would be sweet!
