Sweet, Safe House pregame is ON!
-
it's a better all around record, yes. that said, there's not a song i like as much as Razor Town, The Magician, or Dress Blues
I'd agree with this, though I think "Cigarettes & Wine" and "No Choice in the Matter" are pretty strong contenders.
Now playing:

they're going to be doing a few shows w/ the reunited lineup this summer
Whaaa? Well, that's very interesting. Wonder which version of the lineup?
-
"She" like the Gram Parsons tune? Wow.

Not sure what I want to pick up next, so I'd thought I'd turn to my hipster indie music friends here on VC for suggestions and advice. I have narrowed my list to the following:
1. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
2. Bon Iver - Blood Bank
3. Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue
4. Neko Case - ... (undecided which LP; any suggestions?)
5. Andrew Bird - Noble Beast / Usless Creatures
6. Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid
What do you guys/gals think? Where should I start?
(sometimes I think there is too much good music to keep track of)
You're picking just one? I think all of these are good records.
If forced to pick one, I'd have to go with the Bird.

New record out today, too, right?
Very excited for the Venus 3 shows this spring!
-
I love Sasquatch and have been the past two years, but I think I'm skipping this one. It's a great fest though, and I'm happy to offer camping or general fest-y advice to anyone who's planning to go.
The lineup is good, but it leaves me a little cold since I've seen most of those bands in the past year, or will be seeing them at SXSW or Bonnaroo.

Night 1 > Night 2.
"Blasting Fonda" and I Wanna Be Your Dog" were both incredible. The evening just flowed really nicely.
I met a bunch of really lovely Wilco fans that night, too. The left (stage right?) section just above the VIPs was full of awesome people! Y'all rock.

Great show. The covers absolutely killed. I had just listened to their cover of "Thirteen" earlier that day, so I was surprised and thrilled to hear it.
-
Nice review! Sorry to hear the show didn't go very smoothly, but it sounds like he was able to rally a bit?
I've heard he's been playing "The Water Jet Cilice" pretty frequently on this tour! So cool. I never expected to hear that one live, either. Were there cicadas?
-
Sweet. I will see y'all for both nights in Milwaukee. I'd be up for the Safe House pre-game...but if it's a GA show, I'll be in line!

From www.cimmfest.org
CIMMfest is proud to present the Chicago premiere of the new Wilco tour documentary film, Ashes of American Flags on Monday, March 9th at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Q&A with Director and drummer for Fugazi Breandan Canty.
It will nice to see it on the big screen.
Anyone know how to get tickets? I didn't see anything on the CIMMfest site.
CIMMfest looks kinda cool. I want to check out that Largo documentary they're showing.

Wiener's Circle is still closed for health code violations, I believe...
Your closest dog is Murphy's, it's two or three blocks west of the Vic on Belmont.
I'd recommend Philly's, it's about a block east of the Vic and they do a decent philly cheesesteak. You can also get deep dish by the slice.

Huh, okay. Woman King is pretty damn fantastic. I just really liked what they did with the percussion and rhythmic elements on Shepherd's Dog; I felt like it had a really nice pulse. Maybe I'll give it another listen today...

oh my oh my. Even though I have gathered about of third of these songs along the way, to have them all on vinyl, with one whole vinyl record being devoted to Trapeze Swinger is mind blowing.
Also really thrilled about this!
For me, Shephards Dog was one of the most disapointing releases in some time. I became such a huge fan and was right along with him through Women King and even the set with Calexico, but Shephard's Dog just didn't connect with me emotionally at all (with a few exceptions). No kidding? I really loved it, thought it was brilliant.

Around The Well and May Tour
On May 19, 2009 Iron and Wine will issue Around the Well (Sub Pop), a 2-CD/3-LP collection of rare tracks ranging from out-of-print to never-before-released. In support of Around the Well Iron and Wine will be performing ten intimate shows in five cities. Each individual show will be wholly unique, as Iron and Wine will turn the set list over to the fans to create. In addition, Iron and Wine have begun work on the follow-up to The Shepherd

Then Jenny joined them for a little more interview time, and did "Pretty Bird" with Elvis, Matt, and her band.
Oh, nice. I haven't bothered to catch this show yet, but I do like that song quite a bit, so I'll look for a rerun. Thanks for the heads up!

I beg to differ. He dances a mean jig during "Hummingbird".
As long as we're splitting hairs, it's more of a jog than a jig
-
Sweet Jebus I cannot wait to see this band.
-
When they announced this EP, I got all excited thinking there was a brand new song called "Extra Cheese". Ah well.

Not like my favorite Jayhawks records, but I'm enjoying it in the background while I work for sure....
Yeah, that's kind of my take on it right now. We'll see if it's a grower.
Heh, the record just finished and my iTunes segued into "Juicy" by Biggie. Bit jarring.
And if ya don't know, now ya know...
-
Not sure how I feel about it yet.
The Jayhawks (including Louris, Olson, and related)

Oh, yay! It'll be nice to see Karen again.
And I agree on Rainy Day Music, too. Lots of good songs on that record: "Angelyne" "Tailspin" and "Tampa to Tulsa" especially.
