  1. Yeah, when I got a break from work to load things up at 9:58, I was pretty surprised that Friend of the Fest passes were already gone 2 minutes before “on sale” time. It feels a little wrong that someone who has been to every SSF didn’t get a chance to be a “friend” of the festival! Gotta say there was a time in my life when it would have been feasible to block off half an hour to continuously refresh just in case this happened, though. So in that sense I guess I could have done better at trying!

I didn't go that route, but started checking every few minutes about 10 before the hour, while I was clearing work emails. It was actually a few minutes after the hour that I got through and bought what I wanted. As an older fan, I appreciate there being some options -- call it VIP if you will -- but simply opening the event to a broader range of audience, especially as the band begins to age as well. Not talking walkers, but, just as it has always been billed as a "family-friendly" event, hopefully that includes dad rockers, and, eventually granddad rockers.

  2. Yeah, those tickets totally went up early. Friend of the Fest was already gone at 9:59 when I tried. Oh well, guess I'm just a regular schmo as always. The pop-up part of the VIP sounds interesting, but I'm sure a lot of folks were drawn by the promise of some sort of semi-private bathrooms, to be honest.

Funny, I always thought the ethos of Solid Sound was that there wasn't supposed to be a VIP tier. Guess it was inevitable, though.

The VIP and housing specials raised money for charity -- the FotF tickets for the school, if I understand correctly.

  3. FWIW I posted a very very very brief rundown of how to play Random Name Generator in the Lyrics/Tabs section. Buddy and I figured it out, probably going to play a jam based off of it tmrw night at this show we are playing. Or the song itself if we can figure out the lyrics.

Everthing that I noodled with was in A, except the song after Satellite was in B

  4. I'm nervous about the crowd surge thing. My experience is they're a bit worse than frontgate. :(

Is it possible to be worse than Frongate? Unless you're looking for SRO for hell.

  5. One of the bandmembers talked about them having about 100 songs back. It could have been very easy to throw a few more songs into this; it may have been a very brave decision to stick with the 11 and say, 'that's our album.' As much attention as Tweedy is known to give tracking and looking at the album as a whole, I just think that is a brilliant, cohesive album in the classic sense of vinyl.

  6. I feel a little bit of I Might in Random Name Generator, but it's way better than I Might.  They took some real chances here, and hit a home run. I'm floored. And excited. It's better than I could have hoped for, and the surprise free drop makes it even better. This thing kicks ass. It's weird as shit, which pleases me no end.  :stunned

    What he said.

  7. I feel transported backward 35 years. I need an album cover to stare at and liner notes to read. A moment after You Satellite to flip the record over.

  8. This is from another thread here... posted by "Pop Quiz Kid" (thanks!!)...

"Here's a link to a tracked out and labeled 192k mp3 quality version of the WFUV stream from last night. This sounds pretty darn good except for several dropouts during Company In My Back. But is better than nothing until they release it officially and we'll all purchase a copy

You'll have to unzip it once you download it.

The link will be available thru July 3rd.

I am soooooo sorry I missed this.

  9. From Setlist.fm, looks accurate. 4 Woody songs, seven from YHF, Uncle Tupelo song and cover, a huge slice of their "noisier" catalog, the pairing of Poor Places and Art of Almost was inspired (although Nels had guitar issues on the latter). Its been a while since I've seen them, but they continue to give Nels more and more room in Impossible Germany and he shreds up every square inch of space and leaves you begging for more. Was I In Your Dreams had some energy and depth beyond the norm, it's obvious the focus of this tour is to sell the box set of B sides, but Dark Neon was one of the show's highest moments. Tweedy seemed comfortable, gave shout out to local bar, mentioned Stetson Kennedy, but they played Secrets of the Sea. It is my personal judgment that they could shelf A Shot in the Arm and Handshake Drugs forever as it's long passed its quota, but they are major singalongs for most.

    1. Encore:
    2. Encore 2:
    3. (Uncle Tupelo cover)
    4. (Doug Sahm cover)
  10. Final acoustic set was amazing. Tweedy noted that it was 21 years ago to the very night that he and Stirratt played the last show with Uncle Tupelo at Mississippi Nights, and played We've Been Had and Take Back the Keys to My Heart in  honor, then closed with an acoustic version of Misunderstood. Amazing show.

  11. I keep seeing John Stirratt posting pictures on Instagram from different landmarks in St. Augustine, maybe someone will run into him today!

John has friends in the area. They had some sort of post-conference gathering the last time we were here.

  12. I avoided the pit, those days are gone. I got presales seats all the way to one side; saw the ones front and center today and contacted Wilco's ticket vendor to see about changing. They were less than pleasant, plus their Web site is one of the most frustrating I've dealt with. They wouldn't exchange seats but was able to get a sympathetic ear with band management.

I've seen them many times, but this time feels like a real downer.

The tour bus is not very accessible in St. Augustine from my experiences. We ran into John last time they were there but it was on the opposite side of the stage.

And the web site definitely says no photos and refrain from texting, photos, etc. I know people got hauled out of the Savannah show a few years back for taking pics. Not sure about taping at St. Augustine but don't want to risk losing my multitatrack or having to go back to the car with it.

  13. Definitley as excellent as Tampa. The only reason why I'd say it was better is because we were in the 1st row instead of the 9th. I didn't notice any sound problems but I am not an audiophile. All of the instruments and vocals were prominent to us directly in front of Pat. Another great crowd with the band in a fine energetic mood again. We were on our feet all night. Another excellent set list, Poor Places to open and doubly good for us as 10 of the songs were not played in Tampa. Pot Kettle Black and Box Full of Letters! I expected the same Monday/Outtasite encore since they were alternating nights but we had Red Eyed/I Got You! We so enjoy Wilco live.

The only negative was when 3 "ladies" appeared next to us during Shot In The Arm. One kept moving up against me, yelling in my ear "Maybe all I need is a shot in the dark". I turned to her and said, "It's 'a shot in the arm'. She replied, "That's what I said". I said, "No you said 'a shot in the dark'. She laughed and then started slapping me between my shoulder blades in time with the drums! What in hell? I tried to ignore her but to no avail. Finally, the security guy made them leave as they didn't have a red pit access wrist band. He said to me, "She was literally hitting on you". My wife thought all of it hilarious.

Another guy stopped between beer runs to say, "You been dancin' all night, dog". He raised his free hand so I extended mine to shake it. It was like rock, paper, scissors as my hand met a fist. Not being a fist bumper, I was confused. He switched to an extended hand just as I figured it out and made a fist. He switched back to a fist and bumped mine. A diverse crowd at Wilco shows.

I think these three were working the whole front row. We were on the aisle front row the other side, and I got the same treatment, with the beating in rhythm on my shoulder blades. Her line to me was "I'm 80 percent annoying and 100 percent adorable." I asked her if she checked her math.
