Yippee! Plan to be thereon the Saturday. Got to give props for a diverse line-up: something for the kiddies and the grannies (Groban).

No Schmaker--it's not about 'seeing' Wilco. I can (and have seen) Wilco and spin-offs (many times). It's about seeing Neil AND Wilco. See thread entitled 'What song would you like to see Neil and Wilco do together?' to get an idea how exciting the possibilities could be. Obviously you just don't get the significance and why Chicago fans are saddened that the will miss it. If only for the fantasy. And, no, traveling to Detroit and the cost incurred isn't an option for this poster.

What song would you like to see Neil and Wilco do together?

No Crazy Horse--the current band from the Euro tour. Neil rarely covers anybody other than Dylan but currently been doing the Beatles 'A Day In The Life' as an encore. That would be could if Wilco came out for that! 'Farmer John' would suit, too. Chicago gets nada, though. -
...Sonic Youth, Lucinda Williams...

You know if, according to the publicist

Thanks for this. It is absurd, but it's their story and their sticking with it. I never said 'flood the guy's in box'. I suggested ask for yourself. Don't if you don't want to but don't fabricate a tale. Who's to say it's these kind of questions that made management make a (lame) statement? 1 city TBD local replacement, I bet on Buddy Guy.
-
In essence, what some have been posting: The band will not to open for anybody in the hometown, including 'the almighty Neil' (his words). Of course, it's all speculation until Wilco speaks to it.
-
You sir, clearly don't read the Chicago Tribune or listen to Sound Opinions. He's a longtime music critic and well connected with the ins and outs of what is going on in the city. I figured he might have a perspective. I chose to ask.
-
Total agreeance! Unfortunately, that happens with increased popularity. I emailed the man that wrote the Wilco book (easily found googling) with and received a response to my question: 'Why not Chicago?' I suggest y'all do similar and see what you get.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tweedy not the defacto leader of the band? If so, it would be safe to say, that if there is something he wants to do, it will happen? Just an opinion, but Neil's work in the last 25 years exceeds in depth and breadth the Stones in the same time frame. However, if we speak to Stones circa 1969-74, it would be a tough call. However Jules, I recognize you take pride on being contrary.
-
This isn't just 'any band'. Even U2 and PJ opened for the Stones. Wilco, is not at that level in hugeness, you know? Great band though they are. Tweedy needs to bend on this one.
-
That reads as if it's Neil's choice to add them not Wilco's choice to play, you know?

Are Floor/GA tix assigned (folding chair-type) assigned seating or is it quite literally open-space 'Floor'? I thought that was all banned from large arenas in the US after the The Who incident many years ago. Thanks. This info will determine what I'll shoot for, ticket-wise!

>> 23,000 bald, fat aging hippies in tie die t-shirts Nice stereotyping, dude. Neil's audiences are far more diversified than most--including Wilco. So, come off of your self-righteous soapbox. I personally came of age during punk rock, and realized with hindsight (you know, that wisdom thing that comes with age...), that Neil's attitude is far more punk than just about anybody on the planet. Can't wait to see what you wear when you cross the 40 threshold... let's see. Hmmm, a western snapshirt bulging around the middle, converse and tattoo regret. Sheesh.

Tour now up on Neil's site: http://www.neilyoung.com/tour.html

Are you suggesting a pattern???

The last time I was at Allstate/Rosemont Horizon was for the Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie tour...

'Weird' or 'pissy'... I know there was a 75% vs 25% break between RATM and Wilco at Lolla. Tweedy was annoyed that the band was scheduled at the same time--wags talked about it in the press tent. I would be, too. Bad luck. But NIN would have been the same deal. Nevertheless, RATM haven't toured and may never again (old tunes sure, but a rare opportunity), in years Wilco is a thriving band and moving forward.

They would make a whole lot more needy kids happier if they do what Neil does: tag on an extra $1 for the (local) charity to the cost of the ticket. CSNY and Springsteen do the same thing. Not a good enough excuse and date can be anytime. Like all those Christmas in July ad campaigns. Still, I recognize the tradition.

>>You really feeled denied of an opportunity? Sorry if you can't recognize the musically significant history here for us locals. No amount of small local venue opportunities is quite the same: apples & oranges. I'd feel the same way if they were opening for Dylan. As for Lolla--I had work. As it was, what I heard was, that rather than raise to the scheduling challenge re: RATM, Tweedy got kind of pissy on his home turf. Perhaps the same issue... just wee speculation to the mystery.
-
Can we start a petition/thread for Wilco to be on the Chicago stop? How can they deny their hometown fans the historic opportunity? I'm stunned.
-
That's because Farm Aid is in the Boston area.

WTF happened to Chicago? Come'on guys!!!! You can't leave out your hometown! Live Nation states TBD.: http://tinyurl.com/2008FallTour

The Winnipeg Paper confirms their date! http://www.winnipegsun.com/Entertainment/M...18/6493566.html I got my 2nd source. Though, I wonder if Everest pre-empted the official announcement. Oops--guess who gets dropped...
