  1. It's funny to me how much these places of lodging that would be scoffed at by most people most of the year are now charging 400 a night because that's what the market will bare. There's a fine line between capitalism and gouging.

If Jack's starts charging 9 dollars for a hot dog and Desperado's starts wanting 22 dollars for a house margarita, I will personally start the rioting.

  2. There's a pretty good one available of Tanglewood in August(?) of 2008. I believe it was courtesy of NYCTaper.

And in my personal opinion the Keyspan park performance of Spiders is the definitive perfomance of that song, usually guests detract a bit but Yo La Tengo subtly improve that tune.

Is there anything super crips available from the "Evening With" tour of 2010?

  3. Was the definitive announcement for 2015 (complete with dates) an attempt to indicate that the next installment will be a "bigger deal" than in years past, or is it just a way to politely say "we're not doing it this year".

And with no Solid Sound this summer does that likely mean no full band shows until the fall?

  4. Wilco is my favorite band to go see. You always know you'll get your money's worth (although now that they've stopped playing Deeper Down there's no guaranteed piss break).

They're probably about 7th or 8th to listen to studio albums of.

  5. These words bum me out (in reference to the ACL show): "Note that these will be the last Wilco shows for many months."

I hear ya WRP, I'm hoping the band as a group gets the itch and we some springtime shows (April or May? Is 6 months "many months"?) or maybe maybe another SolidSound where they break out 10 or so new tunes (like they did with The Whole Love).

Tweedy is fun and all, but seeing him solo is like being really hungry, going to a great Mexican restaurant, and then only ordering chips and salsa. Its doable, but a margarita and some fajitas makes it sooooooooo much better.

  6. Hate to burst the collective bubble on this thread but 9 times out of 10 these big festivals include contract clauses that state the bands cant play any separate shows within a certain mileage radius (usually 100 or so miles) and within a certain amount of time (usually a month or so). Wouldn't surprise me at all if ACL says "no texas shows for a month".

But, this is one of those times I hope I'm wrong. And as long as we're shouting out wishful thinking venues I'm picking "the armadillo" in Denton. Because I love Denton.

  7. I've lost sight of what we were really talking about here, and that is, why don't they play anything from this album? When was the last time they played something from it? (consults WilcoBase)...... They played Bull Black Nova last October, and haven't played more than one song from that album in concert in about a year, maybe more.

Is it possible that they don't like it? Or do those songs bring back some sort of bad memories?

  8. If we're weighing in with our HO's, my pick for weakest track ever has to be Deeper Down. It was convenient as a pissbreak song for theatre shows but other than that I have no use for it at all. My touring companion said that he would loudly boo anyone who used their golden ticket request on that song and I was inclined to agree with him.

But also my HO is that One Wing and Bull Black Nova are quite conspicuous in their absence from setlists over the past year or so. If you play Far Far Away more often than either of those tracks, something is up.

  9. Two things.

First off, from being there I was equal parts amazed and disappointed. Once it became apparent that the show was going to be mostly, if not all, covers I feel like a lot of energy on the crowd's part evaporated noticeably. People went from "sweet, they're doing some Dead" to "Guess I wont be hearing Walt Whitman's Neice tonight, this sucks". Also, Jon Hodgeman and the stump the band stuff killed any momentum that show couldve gained. Both of those were like SNL skits that didnt hit and went on way too long. I am super glad i was there, but at the same time if you weren't don't beat yourself up about it it was a weird night and you've got a great tape to listen to via NYCtaper.

Second, there were a lot of professional cameras there (I counted at least four). Its not my imagination that this is not standard Wilco practice, even for Solid Sound. Correct?

  10. Here's my two cents's on all these solid sound topics:

If you're the type whos walking the Appalachian trail, you can easily make it from the trailhead to the festival site (you likely have a hardcoreness that ordinary pedestrians do not). There's sidewalks starting about halfway(around the friendly's/Price Chopper area).

The Mohawk Tavern is across the street from Mass MOCA and will almost certainly have the game on. This being said, the tastiest Guinness in town is still at the bar at the Holiday Inn, and they'll have the game on as well, and everyone staying there will be at the festival.

If you're looking to kill these last few hours before the fest a good time killer is a printout of all the songs you're heard Wilco play live. The more shows you've been to the better the timekiller. I take the printout with me as a discussion piece on my road trips to the show. After 10 shows I've still never heard Dreamer in My Dreams, Kingpin, or even Casino Queen. "Dude, how about Pieholden Suite? Have we heard that?"       "Lemme check, yup, Tanglewood".

As for the weather, its North Adams, never ever ever ever ever expect the weather to be perfect. It by chance it is, just say thanks. But weathermen be damned, the weather is very rarely perfect.

See ya tomorrow, at Jack's around 6 6:30, Desperados until 8 8:30, and inside rocking thereafter. Safe travels VCers.

  11. I hear ya loud and clear, i go through this same thing myself. What happens for me is that when i have tickets to a Wilco show i'll start listening to Wilco constantly and this will carry over until about a month or so after the show and then i'll go back to all the other bands in the universe. As i haven't seen them since September and there arent any east coast dates posted i can't remember the last time i listened to them. Probably a boot or two on my last long road trip.

  12. Do you want to turn this into where VCers will be on this amazing September night in Boston?

We have amongst us (3 friends who were all at the Orpheum show last April and many more shows before that) from today's presale:

    Mezz Row A Seat 113

Mezz Row A Seat 101 (kind of nice how that worked out)

Left Orchestra Row J Seat 17. (my seat :ninja No, I'm sure we'll fight it out on Tremont St.)

I pulled out some Mezzanine Row A's yesterday as well (seats 35 & 37, i wanna say) after checking the Wang's site on a whim.

How far away are we, as a group, from getting a VC section at each show? How eff-King sweet would that be?

  13. no BBQ is at someone's house

Well stop at Rudy's anywho, its a gas station as well as BBQ. Grab yourself a brisket, egg, and cheese burrito if you get into town in the morning.

(I dont know why i torture myself, there's no brisket in Connecticut, god bless fond memories of Denton)

  14. the limited edition nature of this new release irks me. There are already several listings on Ebay for more than 900 dollars each. I dont know why the dead feel like they should be helping ebay scalpers make money. I guess the lesson for next time is just buy two when the set is announced, and sell one for double the price.

Hopefully that next set is a box of 12/31 shows.
