  1. I have four older siblings, three brothers and a sister. My sister listens to whatever's on the radio, so I don't count her in any of this. My older brothers are 41, 39 and 30...The 30-year-old and myself, enjoy all of the same music, and we talk about it a lot. The 41 and 39-year-old are big 80's dudes who love to rawk with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and AC/DC. Don't get me wrong, they influenced me with a lot of that as I grew up, and in a way I still enjoy some of it. But, I've moved on to enjoy many styles/genres of music...and I try to get them to open up to new things but they give little to no effort in bringing something new into their world. It's unfortunate because they are missing so much...

  2. I find this guy "quitting the band" because of a few disrespectful eggs is an overreaction. At my last Wilco show in Madison, I was a good distance back where no one was standing. So I sat, played my air drums, sang along and had a great time. A few shows earlier than that at the Pabst we were half way up the floor and stood the whole time, and from what could see, the whole floor stood. So, I think, as a fan, you have to be aware of the crowd surrounding you and simply be respectful. Standing or sitting isn't going to change your experience unless you let it. Enjoy the damn show and sit the fuck down! Or, stand the fuck up! ... depending.

EDIT: Also, at night one of the UIC shows, I was on the side in the seats, in front of an older group...I stood when I wanted and sat when I wanted. They were fine with it...if they had asked me to sit down, I would have. If they threw shit at me, I would have taken other actions...I would NOT have said GOODBYE to the band I was there to see, I would get those who threw something at me kicked out for being disrespectful.

  3. bbop, great review...it was a good show and Jeff seemed to be having a great time with all of the union and fart banter. He did also reference how at the previous shows that the audiences clapping sounded like seals making fun of someone who couldn't clap...which I guess is a compliment...but, soon after, the clappers were not in time.

Personal note: I don't really care for clapping with songs...

  4. It's great to see players show their affection to the fans and a city - plus, being a DT makes it that much more special since they don't get the accolades that off the line players seem to garner...Al Harris did the same thing in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after the Packers let him go towards the end of this last season. GO PACK!

  5. Are you really going to blame the man for not doing his research. If he still has AOL, there's also a good chance he's still rockin' the dial-up.

Good chance? Nah, they definitely are on dial-up. I mean, the news about Huffington and AOL came out Monday (I think) and they are changing their email now? Wow, dial-up is slow...

  6. This just in...a rebuttal/reply all:

"I think choosing one's search engine on the basis of the assumed political affiliations of the company's owners is passing weird. But if you are really concerned about that kind of stuff, you might want to check out Google. It is the most gay-friendly large corporation in the world and has regularly supported same-sex marriage proposals in California and other states, the founders have given large sums of money to the ACLU and (shock!) the Democratic party and Google has been widely criticized for it's cooperation with the Chinese government's (you may know them as the "Red Chinese") efforts to censor the internet use of the voters. No, wait, I've got that wrong: they don't vote there."

  7. At my job, I received this note about a change of email:

"Aol was a liberal organization. With the aquisition [sic] of Huffington's organization and the appointment of Huffington as the AOL news director that's too far left for us. Our new e-mail address is:"

I'm all for following your party, and hell, change your email if AOL rubs you the wrong way, but don't drag your soapbox out of the garage, put one foot on it and the other in your mouth while emailing your entire mailbox the reason why you want to change your email from AOL to GMAIL, yes, GMAIL...pretty sure they aren't much better for your political taste either ... and who uses AOL anymore anyway?

  8. Wilco pre-sales have been good to me, as far as actually getting tickets, but I always get back corner tix...does that mean I'm in the front of the line for tix, or is that just the way the ball bounces?

  9. Sometimes I turn the amp on and it lights/heats up right away, sometimes i need to give it a flick or even push it a little for it to heat up...but even then I am not guaranteed it won't go out on me...

    Replace or what?

Amp is only a few years old and has few hours on it...
