Pitchfork is just a website... Their album ratings are pretty consistent in terms of what they rate well or rate poorly. YHF overlapped pretty well with what they typically like, SBS did not. If the new album contains the sort of things they value, it will score well, if it doesn't it won't. If their tastes don't overlap with yours, calm down and read some other music site.
I am calm, however, you said it depends on what they value. The thing is, Pitchfork only values what they think is "cool" at the time, and they turn on the artists that have been around (Radiohead excluded). If this is an example of "value," then that alone invalidates Pitchfork.

I just know that these guys will write yet another pretentious review claiming it is "dad-rock" just because the record does not match the "hip scene." I mean, some of the stuff that they rate highly? Come on....

I agree. I'm almost having trouble listening to any other live content from the band because the quality of the DVD tracks is great.... But I battle through and enjoy the others still...
It's tough though... my god.. that Wishful Thinking is truly something to be heard.

I mean no offense to the poster because he didn't invent the phrase. But I find the use of the phrase offensive, whether it's used on a message board or in informal conversation. It doesn't provide a unique definition nor expound on a existing word. It's just a noise.
I wasn't offended... but back to the topic at hand... I know that Jeff's voice was suffering in Tulsa, and this can be heard on Handshake Drugs. However, I feel like there is some kind of awesome rawness to this.... idk I just kinda like it.

nice! can't wait to get my hands on these. think i'll go order the DVD now instead of waiting until the 28th.
Definitely worth it.. the free show is fantastic as well, but these tracks are basically movie quality so they are now my official wilco live versions of the given tracks, if you will.

I like it.
Agreed... and for the skeptics, keep in mind that this (correct me if I'm wrong) was with Seven Worlds collide. The full band was not there... and Nels Cline was not present... think about it.... plus with the studio layering that seems to be shaping up with the rest of the songs.... i guess you never know... ha.

Regardless of where Dark Neon appears, I have a feeling it will be accessible in some way. This record, after all of this news, is really starting to sound fascinating. It sounds like it does have the tradition/pastoral Americana feel mixed with the awesome instrumental layering that only the studio can create. It sounds fascinating... even apart from being a Wilco fan, it just seems like this is an interesting record to any party.

Good call- I was thinking the same thing when I was listening to them at work today. These files are highly listenable, as opposed to most MP3 files I have ever heard.

I mean... I can hear Handshake drugs destroying my speakers. It is AWESOME

ok, not to split hairs here, and i think someone already pointed this out, but the DC show is indeed the 2nd 9:30 club show, not the first one (that is on the DVD). it is the one that was streamed on NPR. it's a great show, but my greedy grubby hands wanted a great recording of the first show because it had so much energy and was very different from the second night. of course somewhere in my recent past, i got a flac for the first show, but the quality just isn't there. ah well. maybe i should start coming the inter-net to find a better flac for the first night.
and of course, don't get me wrong, i am quite thankful for all the freebie downloads, .
I believe they chose the second show in order to avoid overlap with the tracks from the first... I mean I think it's nice to have different versions

I think these are awesome... the quality is almost too good for my little car speakers....

man, didn't realize there was so much hate for K/T.
I think its a fantastic live album. wish there was a bit more banter, but the sound is spot on and the performances are great. i think jeff's nervousness or whatever you feel it is, maybe that was just his demeanor at the time.
I have no hate for K/T... I agree, it is fantastic... but I really like the more comprehensive variety of songs here. I love AGIB and YHF, but K/T was lacking in the Summerteeth area,
-
The Kicking Television CD sounded impersonal and nervous. Ive seen Wilco live multiple times, and their shows are nothing like that.
It's almost like Jeff knew the show was going to be used for the album, and tires too hard to make the band sound perfect. It results in a soulless group of songs. It my least favorite thing the band has ever done. I can see why they decided NOT to release it on DVD.
I agree, and Kicking Television was not continuous, but a grouping of what they felt were the best songs. I love how this continuous show captures the mess-ups and what not. Also, I love AGIB but K/T was VERY heavy on that. I think Remember The Mountain Bed is my favorite track from this DC show

This is awesome.. anyone notice that the Ashes downloads have better sound? The full concert is sick... thank you Wilco
-
Dumb question, but how do I log out and log back in?
-
I just signed up and got the bonus content and DC show as well. The DVD audio bonus content downloaded as soon as I logged in (I never had to explicitly select it). No DVD in this computer either...
I signed up and got the bonus content from Ashes, but how do I get the DC show?
-
So after you select a "MEMBERSHIP TYPE" in the drop down it appears on the top left under YOUR SUBSRCIPTIONS. I have the Ashes, Roadcase and Live from DC appear there but when I click on them I'm getting this error "The website declined to show this webpage" But when I added the Ghost EP, I get the zip files. Guess there's just too many of us trying??
At least yours is showing up, I only see the Wilco Roadcase option on the dropdown, along with Sunken Treasure and the EPs
-
Also, the dvd link takes me to the ashes website, but do downloads in site.. I know this is bc they aren't up yet, but I was wondering what the difference is between accessing the content with the dvd and just using the roadcase signup page
-
Okay... I still do not see the Washington download anywhere. This is what I see on my screen:
Your Subscriptions
WILCOWORLD - ROADCASE
Sky Blue Sky - Bonus EP
More Like the Moon EP
A Ghost is Born - Bonus EP
Jeff Tweedy - Sunken Treasure
When I click Roadcase it just takes me to the pages roadcase section.... no Washington download.
Same here... this is really confusing

boo hoo - quit your wining. you sound like a fool. it will be up soon enough. after everything thing this band gives us you really feel you should be bitching about when you get your free tracks. you do not deserve to use the name clint eastwood - maybe you should change it to the french term for 'showering'.... douche !
All I said is that it's frustrating, only because I'm excited.. so fuck off. I can feel how I want.
-
This is frustrating...it's the day of the official release and still a blank page for the audio tracks.
-
All the extras are accessed through a web page. Everyone gets the same thing.
I'm sort of pissed they don't have these up yet.
I wish they would put them up already!
-
What I've been wondering is if I received the dvd from pre-order today, will I have access to the entire concert download?
-
In case anyone's still interested in the original topic, the online Wilco store sent an email today confirming that all purchasers of AOAF through April 27 will get a download of one complete show featured in the film, in addition to the downloads of all the audio tracks featured in the film.
So if we pre-ordered it we will be fine?
