  1. Can anyone comment on what songs on Ashes of American Flags were played in what venues? My wife and I travelled from Toronto to NOLA last March and took in both amazing shows at Tipitina's - met John Stirrat out with his family in the French Quarter between shows - very gracious in accepting our compliments on Just That Simple the first night - nice to see this AM gem made the bonus track list. Both nights were quite different in terms of set lists - I think I counted 50 + different tunes over both nights. Cheers and thanks.

Sure, and by the way, you are very lucky to have caught those shows and met John. I love New Orleans so much, and I will be going to college there next year. Can't wait!

As for the extras, I'm not sure... I'm sure you could break it down

  2. I tried avoiding the new songs, but I broke down this week. Many are good. There's still a slight stink of the last album, but the songs are to me, much more engaging than those on Sky Blue Sky. While I don't think this album will replace Summerteeth and YHF as my fav, it'll be a welcome addition my record collection.

wait, how have you heard these?

  3. Mixed bag for me as well, depending on the song. In general, I find myself listening more to live shows than studio.

Via Chicago live is a near-religious experience, and the studio version doesn't come close.

I prefer many of YHF tracks on the studio version than live.

    Etc, etc...

I hear that, Via Chicago on Kicking Television is amazing, and it was even more epic seeing it in person at the Pageant.

  4. With this lineup, live mostly. They are different creatures and I need both, but the extra energy that comes with a live show makes me lean that way.

I agree, but a lot of that is due to the fact that the current lineup has only done Sky Blue Sky in the studio. I love that record, but it did not involve the band using that kind of energy. I guess we'll see what direction the new record takes, but I will love it unconditionally.

  5. They are still available. I would post a link but owl and bear screws up my work computer. Sometime this week I am going to make an updated zip or rar file of all the news songs that have surfaced (One Wing, Sunny Feeling, I'll Fight, My Country Has Disappeared, You And I, Everlasting Everything, Solitaire, Wilco The Song, Deeper Down) Wow that's a lot. Let me know ifI'm missing anything.

    That sounds great

  6. Uh where can I hear this song? Seriously...has "My Country Has Disappeared" surfaced?

I downloaded two mp3s of "new songs" from the Bridge School Benefit... It wasn't until I heard the name of the song and listened closely to the lyrics that it was "My Country Has Dissapeared." I don't think those mp3s are available anymore, unfortunately... The quality isn't great but it was my favorite of the two (The other was "I'll Fight")

  7. A bulk of my music listening is done in the car or at work, in those two scenarios I'd say 75% of the listening is from live recordings. When I'm home and wanna chill out its almost always studio (less passive listening environment lends towards a better studio experience). This goes for not only Wilco but most of my go to bands

Yeah, I'm listening to the studio version of Reservations now, and it's great... A really nice way to wind down. When I'm in the car, I just wanna blast the energy of the live shows though.

  8. I agree. But then again, if those feelings helped him write a great song, I don't really give a shit what he was feeling or how legitimate I think those feelings are. The only thing that matters is the quality of the music.

Hell, he could write an album celebrating McDonald's and Wal-Mart, and as long as the music and the songs were great, it wouldn't bother me at all.

Amen, I've heard a live version of the song, and I didn't think, "Hey, I'm gonna judge this because of the supposed message behind it." No way, I thought to myself, "This is a great, melodic tune by a true master that I cannot wait to hear finalized."

  9. This is SUCH a loaded question. IATTBYH, Poor Places, Radio Cure... a bunch of others are all MUCH better in the studio to me. But most of the other album (Summerteeth and BT most notably) suffer from what I like call horrible production and are pretty much unlistenable to me. In the end, I'd have to say: draw.

Total agreement... nothing beats the work on Poor Places. I feel like IATTBYH has really evolved since the studio version, which I loved. However, I feel that A Ghost Is Born was really expanded live. I prefer those live, and it's also nice to hear Jeff's presently developed voice sing the older songs. I do think that Summerteeth had some great aspects in the studio though.

  10. I am to like the noise thing on the live recording of the first album in the studio setting. It is not unlike the third album, in that the noise type of things drown out the silence at times, it is almost eerie. Sometimes I am also a huge fan of the stuff.

Yeah, I know what you mean... the live versions are expansive and allow further creativity and opportunity, but there are some effects that only a studio can create (hushed vocals on Kamera, etc.) The little things like that are nice.

  11. I attended the Friday show but I really wish that I had gone to the other two. Looking back, these three concerts were pretty epic. After listening to the shows, I think Saturday may be my favorite because of the older gems, but the Thursday show had killer songs and Friday was rockin... what are your thoughts on the best of the three?

  12. That was the Tulsa show. Apparently his voice was suffering pretty bad at the Houston show. The next day in Tulsa, Jeff visited a local doc who gave him a steroid shot. Jeff invited the doc to the show, where he sat in front of the rail. Funny banter ensued. Glad it's captured here. April 18 can't get here quick enough.

hhaha nice... sounds like an epic show, and what a historical venue to boot... I was wondering, I know the dvd was very well edited... but I checked wilco base and I know the trailer showed a lot of the Nashville and Tulsa (white suit,) but the Total Pros were not at either of those shows... the horns in the background in the trailer are SICK.. which concert were those from? DC maybe?

  13. Jeff and the gang have some pretty sick threads (see Lollapalooza with the nudie suits, Nashville, Cain's, and STL with the sick white suit with the roses. Jeff always has some kind of awesome blazer... Anyone know more about how this stuff can be acquired?
