  1. Me too, a brilliantly written song.. I've never understood why many people hate it.

Yeah, it saves the second half of SBS imo. I'll fight is like a bad version of on and on and on, completely lacks the emotion of the latter. Not a highlight at all.

  2. AM: Casino Queen

    BT 1: Outtasite (Outta Mind)

    BT 2: Sunken Treasure

    ST: ELT

    YHF: Poor Places

    AGiB: Muzzle of Bees

SBS: On & On & On

    WTA: Bull Black Nova

    MMA1: Hesitating Beauty

    MMA2: Airline to Heaven

  3. - The album pacing. Probably the best sequencing of all the Wilco albums.

Hmm, I'd rather call the sequencing a negative. They've placed the 3 mellowest songs on this album on 4 spots, so by the time you reach solitaire you're really hoping for something to pick up the pace. Which is kinda too bad since Solitaire is actually the stand-out ballad here.

  4. Here we go again, God forbid we be open to the idea that many like this album.

What is that, "too positive, must be a fan".

What is going to make people satisfied? If you are waiting for Pitchfork to call it the greatest dad rock album of all time I'm sure you only have to wait a few more weeks. Geez!

No, I never said this was an epic failure of dad rocking-proportions or anything. I just think this record isn't exactly whitout some flaws, whereas this review only seems to take time to zoom in on the good things.

sorry, just thought this review was actually extremly fair good/bad. And I still see people wanting blood on this record like it is the worst, most insulting music ever put to tape.

Maybe you need to calm down. There's nothing wrong with some constructive criticism.

  5. He notes the comparison I've made to REM's Automatic for the People ("reached a much wider audience without compromising their artistic integrity"). However, I'm hoping that W(TA) is more akin to Out of Time and that a valid comparison to REM's greatest album will be the next one to come.

Well, if a band really wants to appeal to a wider audience they need a memorable single to carry the record. Out of time had Losing my religion, W(TA) has... You Never Know. Hmm.

Also, this review is cleary well-written but it's a bit too much on the positive side to be called 'balanced'. Obviously written by a fan.

  6. The pragmatic approach: since Wilco is just Tweedy (& to a lesser extend Stiratt) with a rotating cast, is it possible for this 'band' to end before Tweedy eh... dies or something?

  7. so after a number of listens i have decided the following:

-tracks 1 to 4 are moderately enjoyable, "one wing" and "bull black nova" are clearly the standouts on the album.

-"you and i" is cool with the feist thing and everything.

-i classify the remainder of the album as bland, with the exception of "i'll fight," as i love the lyrics.

I kinda agree with point 1 & 3 but lets face it: You & I really is the definition of blandness. Seriously, there's no reason to like this song other than the 'zomg, Feist is on it!'-thingie.

  8. The problem is, while some songs are growing on me (the expected ballads 'country disappeared' & Solitaire) there are others I'm actually liking less with each listen. There really seems to be a lack of depth in the second half of the album with You Never Know, I'll Fight & Sonny feeling just being by the numbers ST-SBS hybrids. Meanwhile, You & I still leaves me completely unmoved.

Really digging songs 2-3-4 on this album, but 5 good songs in total is a bit sub-par for a band like Wilco.
