  1. I'm taking my 6 year old to tomorrow's show in Tucson. I've been growing ever more nervous about her first concert being Hannah Montana. Just trying to make the memory so that when she's asked later in life "What was your first concert?" she can say, "Wilco."

This is a big reason why we decided to introduce our children to Wilco (and other music) at an early age. My 4 year old likes to listen to Disney stuff as well, but as her Uncle explained to her, "As long as you make the music your own", then that makes it a little bit more OK.

That being said, any top-40, radio, teeny-booper stuff has been labelled "non-Daddy music" in my household, and can only be listened to when he is not there.

  2. I'm not quite sure whether to post this here or in the "You know you are obsesed with all things Wilco" thread. So I finally upgraded my hamster-wheel powered PC tonight and towards the end of the purchase the salesman tried to sell us on some new speakers. His sales pitch included bringing up a Youtube video of Journey. (Not a strong selling ponit for my husband). So, I suggested that if he played Wilco I might consider it. So, for 10 minutes "You are My Face" was playing loud and clear over 3 computer screens. (It was the only one I could think of in the spur of the moment). The salesman just kept turning it up more and more at my request to get the full effect of the speakers. unaware of my alternative leanings. In the end, we decided not to get them, but I couldn't help but smile as I walked out of the store. my mission of spreading the word of Wilco accomplished!

  3. I'm I the only better half that now likes Wilco more than my husband? He first heard of them in 1997 and has been a big fan ever since. I met my husband in 1999 and Wilco is probably the only music we both really like. He even told me yesterday that I perhaps listen to Wilco too much!

  4. Ok - I've had this on my chest for a while. When the Neil Young/Wilco/Everest tour was annouced, Wilco was only for Eastern Canada/United States. But not Newfoundland, where my husband and I were both raised and still have family/baby-sitters. Sigh. We currently reside in Edmonton, but Neil was only playing in Calgary (3 hour drive/hotel/babysitter). Plus we really wanted to see Wilco so we compromised on Montreal, as we had family there with a recent new addition, other family who offered to baby-sit our 2 little kids, and a free place to crash. After a multitude of redeemed airmiles, additional car rental expenses, etc... it was an awesome experience (dampened only slightly by a bit too much beer at the show - hey! it was our first night without the kids in a year). About a month or two after that, Neil announced dates for - hold your breath - St. John's, Newfoundland and Edmonton, Alberta. (Nice to know we live in an afterthought - sorry just a smidge bitter).

But we got to see Wilco and our family, which made hubby and myself very happy.

  5. Since the upgrade, I can log on without a problem. But when I chose a forum to view I am prompted to sign in again - which I do. It bumps me back to the begininng screen - where I chose a forum again and again it prompts me to login. I seem to be stuck in a loop? Please help! (Only problematic in Just a Fan - this forum actually allowed me to post - thankfully)

  6. the synchroed bass line/guiter bit before the first chorus in Old Man. The bass solo in Hey Joe, coupled with the singing in the background. I also love the the bass line to Handshake Drugs, it just fits the song and lyrics so perfectly. But I married a bass player so I've been trained to pick up on these things. He always gets ticked off when the bass player doesn't get noticed as much!

  7. Personally. I'd like them to play Newfoundland again. They did the Snow Job gig there in 96 (?) and seemed to have a great time. I was hoping that the Neil Young tour would bring them there, but alas, it started in Halifax (as most Canadian tours do). The Rock had drawn some big names as of late, so I was kind of disappointed. Much more so when I found out that Neil Young and Everest were doing a show in St. John's in April (minus Wilco).

  8. When my daughter was 3 she had a fascination with a live perforamnce clip of You are my Face from Youtube. One day, at the end of the song, she said Mommy - that's silly - books don't fit into phones! So, let's just say she is not quite ready for HMD quite yet... She also thought Jeff's first name was giraffe - "he's not very tall Mommy!"

We have since passed our Wilco wisdom unto our 9 year old niece back east. Last week for show and tell she took the Wilco shirt, badge and CD's we gave her for Christmas and her teacher actually played Just a Kid and all the kids and the teacher got up and danced! I was a very happy Auntie that day!
