  1. The idea of "selling out" is a ridiculous and meaningless notion in the music business of the present day.

I see this more as a "buying in" of the new model of the concert business.  We're at a point where festivals, rather than individual concerts, are how a large percentage of people experience live music.  Rather than Wilco getting booked onto someone else's festival, they are taking control and putting on their own festivals that they can run however they like.  In no possible sense could that ever be considered a sellout, and is actually the exact opposite of selling out.

My wife and I discussed going, but the deal breaker for us is the bottomless liquor dispenser in every hotel room (on top of the all-you-can-drink policy in general throughout the resort).  My wife quit drinking six months ago, and at that same time I cut back almost entirely.  A festival like this is not for us, but I'm sure it'll be a great time for those who attend

"Wilco is a band, not a brand"  :rotfl

  2. I downloaded it.

However, I am not going to listen until Tuesday, because that's when the listening party is.

I justified downloading it because the nearest store hosting a party is 2 hours away. I can't drive that far for the party, but I still want to hear it at the same time as folks at the party. Plus, I've purchased 3 copies of the record already, so....

    Are you an insufferable nerd?

  3. Sounds like you're confusing Richard Bowden and Richard Thompson. Bowden plays fiddle in Ryan Bingham's band and sat in with Wilco on a few occasions on the AmericanaramA tour and afterward, while Thompson of course is the legendary guitar player who also played some shows on the AmericanaramA run.

Regardless, I'd be pretty surprised if any new record is out before late summer at the earliest.

Touche. I've actually been hearing Richard Thompson pretty regular on siriusxm, I found him to be meh

  4. Could be out by May since the are going to be playing with Richard Thompson and I do recall his fiddle during the americanarama tour. Especially since it's going to be some country type arrangements. Didn't nels get a mandolin?

  5. Jeff's voice had a very noticible change starting with AGIB. I think he had some sort of sinus type operation. I don't know whether it was supposed to make his voice better or not but I think he became a more confident and diciplined singer.

  6. OK those of you who do not like WTA listen again and realize that JT must have some sort of extra lobe in his brain that is stricktly devoted to writing melodies. oh and BBN is fine once in a while (its the layers ppl) and my "set killer" is 100% radio cure. Also why doesnt anyone complain about having to hear HMD and ITMWLY every night?

  7. The story of how bob got fired made me laugh so hard. Jeff can be such an d bottle. Seriouly poor bob. Anyway i know jeff had mentioned that he knew his days at reprise were pretty much over when he walked into the lobby at the label's headquarters and there was a giant ryan adams poster above the receptionist's desk. Wilco never did get that wallflowers sound going for them. Darn

  8. KT = great versions of ashes, airline and muzzle of bees. Anyone else out there think that the grand opera house show in wilmington was the greastest? I was at that show and listened to the bootleg probably 300+ times not exaggerating. My one friend who I burned it for called it "just perfect". It is.
