  1. Greetings,

I lost both copies I had of the Grand Opera House show. Hard drive crash + tumbdrive plug bent + way too scratches CDs means I can no longer enjoy my favorite piece of recorded music. The bit torrent on bttree has sadly disappeared and the individual tracks on owl and bear dont work for me. Does anyone know where I can find this show. Please help, I am desperate. Thanks.

  4. Wilco barley plays NJ but I make it work. California's problem is there is no mass transit...you should try to car pool and check out craigslist for lats minute tickets. I am sure you can shave off money that way. I am dreading going out to Brooklyn which may take me up to 2 hours to get to but it will be worth it!

  5. I'd pay $$ for that Berkley show that was in the roadcase last summer. I've never been able to hear any of the tapers product, so I cant make a comparison.

The Berkley show was good. Jeff's comments on how high everybody smelled cracked me up. The opening with Sunken Treasure knocked me on my ass, as I had not yet had the chance to see them live.

yea that was a good one. Better yet i like how he compared them to Portland... their heads were on fire ha ha.

  6. Does anyone else get the impression that the new members page that has been set up for us to get the Ashes audio and the 930 show amongst other bits and pieces might be used to sell us content that is not free?

Currently all of the "subscriptions" are free but I'ld love for them to sell us high-quality downloadable versions of the shows they stream through the Roadcase section. There could even be member's only premium content like tour EPs or the like. It would be a good idea for the band to get more cash trickling in during the between album periods.

Anyone have an opinion whether they think this could be a possibility judging from the members area? Would people be willing to pay for this type of content, and if so how much per gig?

Personally I could see myself paying about $10 per gig just for the convience of listening to it on my ipod.

i prefer what the tapers post rather than what wilco records. To me the bootlegs sound like like if i were actually at the concert, the official recordings sound like if i were plugged into the soundboard with a pair of headphones. you dont get the reverb, you dont get the crown nearly as much... if the sound guy would just turn nels up just a bit like pre residency level all would be fine.

  7. Nels Cline has ruined Wilco. Why don't they just get Santana to join? Why all the flash? Play from the heart not the head. Jay was a much better creative partner.

Being There, Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel and Ghost are my favorites. No wank.

The new album is enjoyable but you can hear Nels suck the life out of it. Much different vibe and not in a good way.

I will listen some more. I am trying to dig it but it is trying to break my heart.

wilco need to do a collaboration with nickelback. that would be sweet. with nels cline and santana dueling leads. fuck yea.

  8. The band has never sounded better than after pat and nels joined. One thing i noticed was nels got tuned way down in the mix starting with the 930 club shows in feb 08. as predicted he has much smaller role on the new album. no 8 minute guitar solos. Yea the novelty has worn off but thats fine, wilco really just needs a solid lead guitar and I think nels is falling into that role. Pat replaced leroy, nels was a new addition.

  9. Have listened to the new record a couple of times now and it's really good. There are a couple of tracks I am not warming too ('Everlasting, Everything' and 'Deeper Down') but everything else is top notch. I actually love 'Wilco - The Song'. It s a great opener. 'I'll fight' also sticks in the mind. I was a big fan of SBS but I think this is more consistant. Infact there are no songs on the new record that I really dislike (Shake it off, What Light, I'm a Wheel etc), unlike previous releases. It's all good.

ummm....... those are all great songs man. I think you meant less than you think, please be patient with me, leave me like you found me

  10. Closing in on 10 listens and this thing just refuses to quite growing on me. It's really better every time.

The sequencing of You and I after BBN is so great too. It's almost as if BBN is a dream and he wakes up from it next to his wife. So many ranges of emotion on this record, and each song is so unique, but not lacking in quality at all

its like a giant rubber band ball man, totally

  11. !lgoose!,

I realize that. I was just trying to use that movie as an example to put across my opinion on the song which keeps changing with each listen.

Hey man thats what music does it paints a different picture in each persons head. if it makes you think of that movie, thats cool.

  12. I'll Fight - Hmm. I'm trying to think of a certain philosophy that was brought up when The Thin Red Line came out in 1999. I remember there was confusion over which actor was which soldier because the 3 leads were relative unknowns. But there was a lengthy article about how that was deliberate to show that in war every man/woman is pretty much the same since they are dressed alike. There's a certain sense of anonymity and losing your identity.

So in reference to the song, I think the idea that I keep toying around with is the point that when all is said and done it really didn't matter who went to war in the first place anyways. Both people would maybe end up dead possibly not being able to be identified either. Almost like the irony that in such a situation someone could actually "sell" or "buy" their way into a war for some reason. I don't know how that would work with the draft.

But it does also sound like a class struggle. Both men apparently have separate motivations. I'm sure each has a woman they're doing it for too. But one woman will be a widow because her situation is most likely in the poor class.

So I guess what I'm trying to get around to is this: if guy dies and can't be identified than there's great tragedy in that he did it for nothing and buying a burying place was a waste. Except for his love whom I am sure is set now. Romantic.

i think The Thin Red Line was a bit too abstract for a war movie. Trying to hard I guess. Also it has no relation whatsoever to the Song I'll Fight.

  13. umm, well wilco (the song) and one wing were definitely way better live. deeper down is very good mucially the second half. spiders is a better song than bull black nova. Im really digging you and I, but im a sucker for love songs of that nature. i hope the album has a more solid B side.

woah peter buck inspired guitar solo at teh end of You and I
