i really like the smiths but i love nine inch nails
-
you don't consider The Smiths or NIN to be rock acts?
i wouldn't
No. The Smiths are mopey, emo suicide elevator music with lyrics and NIN are torture chamber music flunkies.
you are mistaken, at least when it comes to their latter releases

How did it go last night -- -wasn't able to make it.
Will the talk or performance be available on the web, by chance?
And I forgot my apple (and banana) at home this morning.
it went really well but got oddly personal, unlike any of the other roundtables we have hosted. i think the location lent itself to an intimate conversation. dave rempis, who i've only dealt with over email, was wonderful and articulate. there was much talk about his political activism, something the archive doesn't often touch on. i'm not sure if the recording will be made public but i'm happy to put it up on a private soundcloud link if you'd like to check it out. i was also impressed with kent kessler, who i've heard many many times while transferring but never seen in person. he makes playing the bass so intimate and as if its an extension of his body.
i would also be interested in a cream show.

the gala apple cider is so tasty

Definitely will try ---- read that Hyde Park Art Center had day listening party earlier this year - but I didn't make it back it up there for the party (I use to live in Hyde Park).
we sure did! that was set up by me. we are also having a roundtable and performance at comfort station on the 27th.

That's the collection I thought of when you posted --- used to run into Malcachi all the time at shows. Sad story.
if you are local, feel free to drop into the studio as we just mounted an exhibit about him. it is a version of the one that was featured at the whitney biennial

Renic, what is this collection that you manage?
the malachi ristcher collection http://www.creativeaudioarchive.org/xml/malachi-ritscher.xml
he was a taper in chicago from the mid-80's until his death in 2006. and so you know, you can stream a show from 1994 here https://soundcloud.com/creativeaudioarchiveess/sets/gastr-del-sol-live-at-the

Good news for all Chicago people..........the Hothouse is coming back! Lets hope they plan on booking all those unique acts like they did back in the day. Saw Gastr del Sol a couple times there

i wondered that as well. 311 (and their twitter account) says all things are a go today but that it will be opening at 12 instead of 11.
it looks pretty nasty up here, not sure by you.

I was one of the people talking during the Saturday evening set. Someone asked me to please take the conversation away from the music. At first my friend and I were pissed...Then we realized he was right. There's no need to carry a conversation during the show - you have all day to do that.
On a different note, we were standing in the back before the Nels show. We were told we needed to sit. We pointed to the baby in the stroller and the staff said "um, ok. I guess you're fine". Then all the seats filled...then the staff came back and said that we needed to sit (there were no seats!) and it "wasn't really a good set for kids". After such a great weekend in every way, that was a little slice of awful customer service and unacceptable attitude on the part of the staff.
The Fire Marshall was on site during the Nels show, so the staff was definitely stressed out. I couldn't get in the room to simply take a few photos, in and out of the room in a minute or so. That was frustrating but what can you do?
they wouldn't even let me go out to inject insulin! had to do it in the back of the dark theater. worst experience ever!

they were giving out free water and volunteers/staff members were walking around checking in with people to make sure they were hydrated and to make sure everyone knew where the water spouts and bathrooms were.

Are you kidding? That album is going for 45-80 bucks on ebay.....
so, you're saying i'm not worth it?
-
just give it to me

Is anyone on here going to see Wilco's set in person? I didn't even find a thread on it. Just curious if there will be hardcore VC members there, or just tens of thousands of festival goers who have little to no familiarity with the band or its music...
there is a ms y who is there enjoying the festival. she's been known around these parts.

this aggression will not stand man
-
Good idea! I didn't mere mortals could do that............seriously, I didn't know these shows were open to the public in some fashion.
knowing is half the battle
-
Wow! You must have a low tollerance, but consider it let go.
I've seen the light and now advocate that Jeff only plays shows for single payers. Bidding starts at 10 million dollars per seat, but the good news is there's only one seat. ;-)
or perhaps save some money like folks do and post that you are looking to join a lrs group.

he only required one text. i actually thought he was the one providing the handclaps
i really liked the stripped down version of art of almost, since he said that's how it started. the two versions are so very different.

didn't they just recently pull a body out of there?
i have a hard time believing that.
