  1. Really?!?! Cue Johnny Carson voice: "I did not know that." Like I said, I'm not hip to the actual names behind the screen names. Apologies for bringing this up then.I respectfully disagree with the idea of certain shows being only accessable to certain people, but if them's the rules, them's the rules.

I agree 100%. If Jeff don't want them out then by all means take them down. I love the hell out of these recordings.

Yeah I was at the show, but I am being a wiseass because I figured most people got the lame joke I was making. It is in no way, shape, or form the definitive version of the song. And there ain't no masses that it would spread joy to. I was just lucky enough to be standing next to Jeff with a guitar in my hand during the tune. Ignore me.I was serious about respecting Jeff's (and Sue's) wishes, though. I want to do what they want to have done. End of story. There's really no debate to be had so far as I see it. Even if some of the counterpoints are valid, and that releasing these shows would raise more money. It doesn't matter. Jeff and Sue don't want it to be done.

I can tell you the Wilco/Jeff love was spread to me personally from a copy of the 03-03-07 show. That recording means a great deal to me and really furthered my loving of Wilco and Jeffs songs.

  2. It saddens me that (what I consider to be) the definitive version of Someone Else's Song (4/5/08) will not spread joy among the masses, but I respect Jeff's wishes, and I applaud the removal of this show from the information superhighway. Thanks A-Man.

And Bart, in all seriousness, you are right that unapproved recordings occur all the time these days. I think you referenced Dylan? The point is that this is a group of folks that wants to respect Jeff's wishes. End of story. What happens among other groups of "fans" in other situations is irrelevant. This group wants to do the right thing. And, as evidenced by the removal of the shows, will.

Matt, were you at the 4/5/08 show?

  3. Me listening to any of these shows takes absolutely nothing away from the people that were there live. I am not saying Jeff is wrong for not wanting them distributed, but the reason you stated seems silly and selfish to me.

You could make the same argument about a small solo show at a club. "But I paid 30$ a ticket and waited in line for 4 hours, you shouldn't be able to sit and home and listen to it for free!"

I don't know any of you personally but some of these comments come across to me as very selfish. Every time I have seen a band do something interesting or different in a live venue I have always wished that every fan of that band could be there with me to witness and enjoy it.

Again, if the performer does not want a show distributed, fine by me, its your songs, your deal, but fans complaining that it makes the show "less special" for the people that attended is ludicrous.

  4. ...I really question idea that Jeff would play a show that he knew was taped and then expected those recording to not be circulated beyond an elite little group. It seems counter productive in many ways. One, it breeds a class system within the fans....."Only I am important enough to hear this, not you peasant".

this exactly why we never made the very first available to anyone.

Bart might be on to something here...

  5. Maybe if people want them, they'll send you a private message.

You are not bad! Your heart is in the right place or you would not have bothered to offer up your concerns about being appropriate to share the edited versions. I have a lot of difficulty listening to the recordings in my car due to the banter and volume highs and lows and find myself constantly reaching for the volume button, and that's not particularly safe IMO.

    Analogman, great post.

This is exactly why I am doing it. These shows are so cool and Jeff is cool as all hell to do them and let them distributed. These shows have made me a much bigger fan of the band.

  6. I am not down on the banter or jokes at all. I love these and make me like the band and songs even more. I just don't want to listen to these stories and long periods of silence every time I want to hear these shows. I am not down on anyone for editing these shows this way at all. I love them and am grateful to have them.

Also, I was not trying to imply that these should ever replace or would be better in any way to the "normal" recordings. I will keep these to have a different way of listening to these shows.

My thought here was that I am not the only one who wants these slightly edited and does not want or cannot play FLAC on a portable device. If this breaks the show tapers ethical code, then I guess I won't share the work I am doing here.

All I was looking to do was help out and save time for anyone who has or had the same idea I had. My bad.

  7. I thought these recordings were intended to be private keepsakes for the people who donated quite a bit of money, time and efforts organizing and in some cases traveling great distances to attend the shows. I didn't think the shows were ever meant for public domain / general distribution - not to be snarky or anything, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of it being a 'Private Living Room Show'. I realize that you can't stop people from eventually sharing and leaking these shows, but editing them down and putting them into a widely available torrent completely goes against the spirit of the shows.

Just my opinion -- I've attended three of these shows myself.

Again, if this is no good I will not share what I am doing for my private enjoyment. I just thought someone else might enjoy what I am doing.

Also, I was under the impression these were openly traded/downloaded by many, if not most, hardcore Wilco fans. Is this not the case?

  8. Hey guys I wanted to let you all know I am going through and editing all these shows to take out all the banter and stories to make it a smoother listen. The banter and stories are great but all totaled up its literally hours of extra play time. Anywho, I don't want to step on anyone's toes here so if I am out of line I will gladly remove this post. I will have FLAC and VBR MP3s tagged and sorted for all these shows that are currently available at O&B.

I am not touching the music at all in any way, just cutting out all pre and post song banter. I love having a version of these shows where they go right from song to song and a version with all the great stories and banter.

Let me know if you are interested in me uploading these somewhere or if someone else has already done the same thing and I am spending all this time for nothing.

    thanks guys!

    -Todd

  9. The venue got back to me very quickly!

Preshow happy hour from 5 to 8 -- this features front of the line access to the show when it opens and access to our VIP rooftop bar

doors to main auditorium open at eight

    opening act at nine

    Wilco at 9 45

  10. Hey Todd,

Well that throws a wrench into the system.

When in doubt call the place. They should know what's going on.

You can take the "i'm confused as to the doors opening time"... or "the I really want to see the opening act when will he/she/they be on ... at 8 or later...?"

The best they can do is probably say "well, the opener goes on at 9 and after that we don't know, but the curfew is at blah blah blah."

    Kristofor

I plan on calling them when the box office opens. I think I will just get a ticket and hope for the best?

This will be my first Wilco show and I am insanely excited.

  11. Thanks for the info!

The venue's web page says that doors are at 8, show starts at 9pm. So, if there is an opener for sure, he wouldn't play for much less than 30 or 45 minutes, so that would mean Wilco at 10pm at the earliest, right?

    Anyone agree or disagree?

    thanks!

  12. I am trying to get to the Pomona show this weekend. Does anyone have any ideas on what time the band has been hitting the stage?

Will there be an opening act at Pomona? I really want to go, but my band is booked that night and I really want to do both.

    Thanks!

    -Todd
