...maybe all you need is a shot in the...face?

Well when listening with headphones (an I'm running from the version I downloaded on iTunes, not the vinyl, which I fully intend on purchasing...) I heard as you so keenly put it a "weird, swishy uneven sound. Now to that end, I am not complaining and I too love the drum sound on that song and the rest of the new album. I was just curious to see if anyone else had hear it my way. Plus I'm an audio engineer, and that's what I do for a living.. I may very well be wrong, however, and feel free to correct me if that is indeed the case.

I dunno, it may just be me, but to my ears the snare drum sound on "You Never Know" on the new record sounds to be out of phase. Like I said, may just be me, but for some reason (unless that's what they intended) it bugs the hell out of me that the producer or engineer let that little guy get on the record. Sorry if this sounds anal BUT being a producer/engineer it bothers me. Sorry also if this is in the wrong section of the forums.

Haha!! Yeah, I get that look/phrase from everyone but my dad (fellow six stringer and gear junkie), and even he sometimes looks at me and says "Shut up and just enjoy that damn show!"

Does anyone hear the vibes on Wishful Thinking?

It's in the introduction sequence. Before the Hammond and Acoustic guitar come in. -
You in Chicago? I play drums. PM me.

Whatever amp it may be, Jeff's had it for awhile. Check out this video of Wilco playing I Got You, and you'll notice Jay has 2 amps side by side, then Jeff's amps are on Ken Coomers drum riser, flanking the drums. On the left is the obligatory AC-30, on the right is some mystery tweed amp. Maybe the same one, maybe not. Take a look.

M-Audio Fast Track pro is the best home recording interface I've come across so far, for the price. I also know that you can get ProTools M-Powered, which is a limited version of ProTools but comes with an M-Audio interface, on Sweetwater or Musicians Friend for like $499 or something pretty ridiculous. So all you'd need would be mics, cables and a better acoustic...Just kidding! -
My guess is that it's an old Club and Country, like the one SRV used to play. I think that and the SF Twin he has are used for keyboards and the Matchless is his guitar amp. Could be wrong...

check this: http://media.photobucket.com/image/wilco/thornberrie/000_02071.jpg?o=6 If you look closely you can see the outline of two speakers (12"s) and the mic is on one. The speakers are offset, making it a 50w low power twin. Whether its a Fender (vintage or RI) or a Victoria, only time can tell...

I'm almost 99% certain that it's a tweed Twin, either high or low power. It's too rectangular to be a Bassman or Bandmaster. That is, unless Tweedy got a custom AC-30 in tweed! How apropro...
