That guys drumming style bugs the crap out of me. Is he good? Sure but way too busy for my taste. His drumming is actually a huge reason I can't get into DMB.
i hear ya... carter sure is fun to watch though. on a much "simpler" side is jim eno from spoon. after seeing them live, eno made me truly appreciate what a good drummer can do for a band. definitely felt like he was the powerhouse, supplying the band's momentum. britt must like him too, as i think he's the only other founding member still in the band.
oh, and you've got to check out this clip of buddy rich, pretty ridiculous:
-
many don't like them, but the drummer from dave matthews band, carter beauford, is likely the best i've ever seen.

I'm always surprised to see how many Wilco fans come here to complain about Wilco not doing things right, everytime Wilco does something new. But I enjoy reading it too.
righto, all i do is complain. it's settled, you're a better fan than i am.

I was sure the Festival was announced as being "curated by Wilco" and not "only Wilco." I tell my friends that this is a "Wilco Convention," like a Star Trek convention -- where half the fun will be being among other Wilco nerds. (That means YOU.)
But that IS an interesting concept to have the band play for the whole weekend! I can't imagine any band having that kind of stamina, though. It was already pretty amazing to read about the 3 hour long shows some of you in the US got to see.
It would make an awesome performance art installation, to have a band "perform" for a whole weekend on stage, but where they play a little music, eat and sleep, read or watch TV, and be "normal" and talk to each other, answer their mobile phones, get interviewed, and tend to their Facebook and Twitter accounts. And fart around.
And we get to watch everything (except toilet breaks, etc.) Like a reality show, but LIVE! On stage! I think it would be a comment on the voyeurs we've all become. It would be ART. I would call it "Rockstars, in Captivity."
when a band like phish headlines their own festival, they play two full sets a day, each day of the festival... at least..
and louie b, if your comment was directed at me, you're misreading. i'm not bitching, just saying i think at least 2 wilco performances would be more appropriate than the 1+ solo acts. whatever, change of subject...

should be wonderful, i've never been to mass moca before, and appreciate any excuse to hang out in western massachusetts!
-
there's more to music than wilco, and they are inviting you to listen w/ open ears.
i'm well aware, but i didn't pay for this service. instead, i paid for what i thought was going to be a weekend of wilco.
for the record- i'm stoked to be going.... i'm just saying....

Am I picking up on a little dissatisfaction? Because maybe it's just me, but I am most definitely NOT disappointed in this schedule/lineup. This is not Lollapalooza, nor is it priced like that--not that money's the most important consideration. I'm envisioning a gathering of the Wilcohead community, with warm fuzzy feelings all around. Maybe there'll be a surprise or two coming our way, and maybe not, but I am more than thrilled about it, exactly as it stands! And in terms of bang for your buck, $90 for 3 days of bliss? C'mon, people!
personally-- i think it's pretty weak to advertise a wilco festival, and then the band plays only 1 set. aside from seeing tweedy solo, the side projects don't really do anything for me. i suppose some of the other bands will be entertaining, but i'd trade it all for three days of wilco.

it was just posted on twitter that the final schedule is up. looks a little neater than it did yesterday, but i see no changes. http://solidsoundfestival.com/pages/schedule.php

am i the only one thinking of skipping friday? looks like i could save on a night at a hotel

-
wasn't there supposed to be some sort of announcement today?
-
cool as kim deal- dandy warhols
-
for the record, the site now lists "jeff tweedy solo" which makes me SO VERY happy.
hmmm... should probably book a hotel sooner or later.
-
bummer-- just catching the tail end. i'm the man who loves you, followed by kicking television. sounds good, though... wish i tuned in for the rest!
-
one performance is pretty weak, as far as i'm concerned. it's a three day festival, where they are the main attraction. i'll trade all side projects for 2 headlining sets. just my $.02.
-
This on top of the previously announced Wilco headline set (Saturday evening) and sets by The Nels Cline Singers, On Fillmore, The Autumn Defense, and Pronto.
I hope Wilco are playing more than just Saturday night.
-
but seriously.... why doesn't it say tweedy solo set?
-
SO happy Vetiver are playing! They are truly incredible! Check out their album "To Find me Gone"

That would have been me and another fine person here on the board. Glad it's working out for you.
We've yet to lock in our lodging but I fully expect to get a nice (3 or 4 star) hotel (outside Albany NY) about an hour away from North Adams in the $40-50 a night range, via Priceline of course.
i'm still waiting, then i'll be trying to do the same! thank you for mentioning this earlier. that forum mentioned has proved to be super informative.

what are the odds of tweedy solo set?
to reply to my own post, if anyone is wondering: during the boston show Tweedy said something along the lines of: "all of our side projects are going to play." So, I'm hoping that by use of "our" he is implying that he too will be playing a set that is not formally a Wilco set?
Maybe i should just stop thinking about this...

sounds great, thanks for doing this

better bidding gives you an idea of what hotels come up at what prices on priceline (and hotwire too). a great reference tool, and it's constantly updated by real people getting real deals.
there are tons of hotels in the troy and albany ny areas and i don't mind driving an hour in that part of the country. good luck to you!
I'm going to put a bid in, thought it feels a bit early, seems like I'm most likely to get a deal closer to the date. I'm a bit uneasy about putting in credit card info without being able to see what I'm buying first... we'll see, i've only begun checking this out. thanks for the heads up, looks like it is worth checking out. let us know how it works out for you

-
shhhh....you're giving out my secrets!
just kidding
and welcome to the board!
in the last two years i have made out very well all over the country with priceline and betterbidding.
got my tix yesterday and we plan to play it by ear on the lodging, but are prepared to commute from the albany area if necessary to save money. i'm thinking we should be able to get a 3 or 4 star hotel in or near albany for $50 a night or less.
is this really possible? I'll have to check out betterbidding! please do share your secrets! as a poor college student, $50 a night sounds fantastic

-
any idea as to how many tickets are being sold?
-
Just got 2. Very easy. Now to find a place to stay! WOOO!!!

thanks for the link. for whatever it's worth, the article states: "the main stage where Wilco will perform Saturday night and Sunday afternoon is a grassy glade next to the train tracks. "
