  1. Isn't that what it's titled on the Loose Furs release? Where does "Not for the Season" come from?

When people need a quick name for a new song, they just pick up on repeated phrases in the new song they hear in concert. It happened to Radiohead with Nude, which was known as Big Ideas (even though a minute portion of Radiohead fans were calling it Nude while they were testing it for like those 10 years). I can only assume the same thing happened to Laminated Cat (Not For The Season).

EDIT: I may be mistaken, but I thought Wilco occassionally writes Not For The Season on their setlists as well sometimes.

Apparently, if you understand the definition of benders, then discovered that people in a certain region eschew it as a pejorative but not its original meaning, it's not okay because people might eschew your name to be vague and insulting. Porque, Morning Benders? This is a pretty horrible name change. And that's before we talk about whether their new sound works for them.

  3. Yes. And yes. And hell yes.

Because with even as few as three key strokes - IMO- you can indicate to others that you are not invalidating the opinion of everyone who disagrees with you. And that in turn creates a respectful environment as opposed to one where people are less interested in discussion and more interested in being correct and "winning". In my view, its just being polite and it makes message boards far more pleasant places to hang out. I get that others may not care about that.

You could be polite by not being repetitious. Instead, you're clogging up the traffic that is communication. Why overstate your thoughts? It just makes it harder to read for the next person. If that's being polite, damn, I'm a miserable asshole.

  4. Oh man, I am the exact opposite - I am really liking this one a lot...It was really immediate for me. I really hated his last 2 records (solo and the last pumpkins one), so a slight return to form is okay with me, and I'm pretty sure this is Billy's way of waving the white flag...for Billy Corgan circa 2012, Oceania is not a bad record. He made it with his fans in mind, which kinda humanizes him...The guitars are great, the bass is great, drumming is ok and his voice is ok... Don't really care for Quasar starting off the album(sounds to much like Siva filtered through the Machina-era sound to me). Glissandra and Violet Rays are really the only two songs I am kinda cold on. I am surprised that, so far, it's been very positively viewed upon by critics.

If anything, Oceania's songs are most like the ones you mentioned above. I hear tons of Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie on Oceania. Those two record's influence are all over this one - Panopticon, The Chimera and Inkless sound like they could have musically fit on Siamese Dream to my ears (perhaps not lyrically). To me, it's the record Billy Should have made around 1999...By all means, the album is not perfect, but it's pretty good in comparison to his output since 2000 and his best set of songs since then.

Oceania is full of extremely trite sentiments. It's like Billy Corgan embraced Jack Johnson in his life: all you need in a musical career is a heart. I actually think this is just Zwan 2.0 meets some sort of fevered-dream version of Black Sabbath. There's some nice sounds on the album; however, the lyrics...

Then again, this is the man who hates Pavement because he doesn't understand a joke and sarcasm.

And then he said this, at a time when he released different extra tracks for different retailers for the same album.

Because a heart should be on a sleeve!

I'm sorry, now it's just a rant about what went wrong with the Smashing Pumpkins. I've made myself sad.

Did the Karate Kid lookalike win a contest or something?

I don't even know where to begin with that picture. All these minute details just send me running to the bathroom and reversing my fortune.

  5. I saw them in Michigan this year (first time they returned in about 15 years), and I noticed that a couple of the 12 mobile dangling displays had dead pixels in them. But I didn't see anything wrong or dangerous with the wiring. Just that the staff used a lot of precaution when ascending to the stage ceiling.

My sympathy and condolences to fans, friends, and family of the crews and bands.

  6. Morning Mr Magpie is the true highlight from The King Of Limbs. Feral sure is monstrous live.

Actually, real surprise is opener Caribou. I liked Caribou before, but when they play live, it's quite a blast. The live rendition of Bowls (and I apologize beforehand for this) just bowls my mind.
