also! mega bummed I cant make it this year. Have extra fun for me, everyone who is going! 

It definitely depends on venues, I'm sure. There's a place up here in Maine that charges obscene about of money for tickets because they dont use a ticketing service. I'm sure venues that do are also "non profit" or have some other reason for high ticket prices.

Solid Sound is so reasonably priced! Especially the early bird tickets. I'm really upset I wont be able to go this year.

In January I was on tour with one of the bands I play in and our friends at Lake House Studios wanted to record us playing a song live to tape to show off their tape console since nobody really records direct to tape any more. No computers. Nothing! Lots of fun. Plus we go to raid their awesome vintage guitar closet. I got to play the Rickenbacker !

I suppose it's a fine line. Pat has stage moves that suit him and he does them when it's "appropriate" (song songs like Monday where he does a windmill) and it comes off pretty naturally. Pat looks like he walked out of 1974. This guys moves looked totally ridiculous from third row center and kind of took me out of the show a little. 
I'm a musician as well and find a lot of joy in playing on stage. No fault in anybody enjoying themselves. I just understand where the "focus" should be I suppose. ie - Not walking to the front of the stage and raising his bass up with a rock face while the band is playing a quiet folk number. 

 also - Hospitality (the opener) was so boring. No engaging the crowd and nobody looked like they were having any fun what so ever. They had a couple decent numbers. The lead singer had this disgusted look on her face at times and then I noticed she was pregnant after she took her guitar off. She must have some serious morning sickness. Over all I was kind of bummed they were so disengaged. Thats a great opportunity to open for someone like Jeff and it seemed kind of wasted to me. 

I did find it strange that they came back to Maine so soon after playing a couple months ago. Wasnt packed. There were 4 drunk dudes right near me in the front row who were pretty annoying but got Jeff to banter a little bit. I could tell he was kind of getting flustered. A lot of people taking pictures on their phone too. I noticed him waving at people to stop during the first song. 

pretty bold to play 14+ (pretty much) new songs. I've grown to like them the more I've listened. Jeffs voice was on point during the solo set. I really miss hearing him sing high! 
Big thing that bugged me- the bassist. I'm sure he's a great dude, seems like he would be. But his stage moves really put me off. Almost laughable in an embarrassing way. 

Over all a great show! 2 hours! Looking forward to the inevitable Tweedy reunion at Solid Sound next year! 

also is anyone just not very impressed with these new songs? Hopefully with 19 songs where will be a lot of gold in there... but these singles they're putting out I'm not really raving about

So I'm going to be doing a fair amount of gigging outside this summer. I played an outdoor fest last weekend and couldn't see hardly anything on my Korg pitchblack tuner because it was so bright out. I had to squat down and get real close to it. Really held things up. I've heard of people putting scotch tape or black pantyhose over the lights so they cut through, but never tried it. Anybody try tricks like this? Do they work?

I would definitely catch one of those shows... but I dont think people would see what they wanted to. Dylan isn't the Dylan people want to see. 

i think there's a thread already for these guys. And as I've said before - I think they are a really hot, kickin blues band. But as far as the music goes... I find absolutely nothing inspiring about it. 

Hey y'all.  Thought I'd let you know how the show went - 

It was kind of a sucky night weather wise. Usually these clash of the titans shows have like 150+ people out on a Wednesday night which is awesome. But we only had 80 something this time around. 
Anyways, we all played the SHIT out of our set but the Shins group played a ton of dancey tunes and that got everyone pumped up. Going from a poppy shins tune to listening to Via Chicago is kind of a bummer. haha. So obviously the crowd was in favor of the Shins > 

Either way it was a great show, I saw a bunch of phones out possibly taking videos. So I'll try to track em down and post them !

BIG SHOW- Roger Waters the Wall live at Fenway in Boston. Visually it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my entire life. Unreal. 

SMALL SHOW - Kevin Devine at the Drake Hotel in Toronto. A tiny venue, held about 150 people, everyone just hanging on every word this guy sang. You could hear a pin drop. After the show they immediately kicked us all out for a late night DJ Dance night. Drunk ladies EVERYWHERE  

I used to make setlists with joke titles to see if my bandmates would get it 

Of course there are exceptions to that rule. i dunno, I just dont see much lasting power as a listener. But hey, I could be wrong. who knows? Maybe they'll headline MSG, maybe one of them will have a dubstep side project? 

I say they'll need to change their sound because any band has to do that for the most part. Three (or more) records of the same old song and dance will get old for an audience, but who knows.

I totally agree with to each their own. These guys are a great band and I'm happy to see younger kids doing some stuff with more substance. But it is uninspiring for me to hear a band these days sound like they jumped out of a time machine, unfortunately.
