Bobby Valentine is coming
There are very few people in the world who I have a visceral, negative reaction to when I see/hear them on TV or in person, and Bobby V is one of them. The word "idiot" comes to mind when I hear him speak.

Joe Jackson - Look Sharp
The Jam - All Mod Cons
The Jayhawks - Hollywood Town Hall
The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Couldn't Stand the Weather
Wilco - Being There

Got breakfast in bed, BBQ grill accessories, two plants, and Paul Weller's new CD.
Gave tickets to Deutsche Bank Golf Championship in Boston in September.

Most of NJ smells fine, it is just the most-often-seen-parts that smell poorly. NJ has Pine Valley GC and Baltusrol GC - two of the best golf courses in the US. Gorgeous land. Not that this helps NJ smell any better, though.

I love Father's Day gifts....

I lived outside Nashville for 6 years as a kid. Little Jimmy Dickens lived 2 houses down the street; last time I was there, he still lived there. Love the authentic, pre-1980s country music.
Kenny Rogers has had some serious plastic surgery. Yikes.

The Phils have OF Dominic Brown in AA. There are some who believe he should be in AAA, if not Philly.
Saw Brown play two weeks ago or so against the Portland Sea Dogs. Tall and thin dude, hits for power. Body type reminded me of Griffey, Jr. Think he had a double and a single, as well as a K. He's going to be good.

Love Planet Waves - I would go top 5 Dylan albums as well, with Blonde on Blonde, Infidels, Blood on the Tracks, and Desire up there, too. Hell, there are 5 more I want to put in his top 5. Love the live stuff too - Before the Flood and the much maligned at Budokan are favorites. Think I'll put the latter on now.

ST as well. Can't imagine them doing AM or BT, and I don't think YHF and AGIB would be that much different. BT would probably be my 2nd pick.
-
From Closer to the Heart to the end of the show - that is an excellent run of songs. I lost interest in the late 80s - saw them 3 times in the early/mid 80s, and they put on a great show each time. Love most of their 70s and early 80s music. I would like to see them play the entire Moving Pictures album - that is the kind of thing that can get me back to see a band I have not seen in a while.

Here is my ranking:
AM
BT
ST
YHF
AGIB
SBS
W(TA)

Jack White sang Mother Nature's Son, Emmylou Harris sang For No One, Elvis Costello sang Penny Lane, Stevie Wonder sang We Can Work It Out...McCartney sang Ebony and Ivory with Stevie Wonder
Love this.
I could do without, however, the Dubya bashing. I understand that he likely ranks in the bottom three Presidents in history, and I rejoiced on January 21, 2009. But he is way too easy a target for cheap laughs, and beating up on the guy gets us basically...nowhere.

Susanna Hoffs still looks amazing. She was (and is) gorgeous.
Still smokin'. More proof that there is a god.

Not a fan of "The Power of Equality" off the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Not sure I would call it a crappy opener, but compared to what follows, it pales.

I feel the same way about The National. Now you have me thinking I may have to check out High Violet.
Agree with My Morning Jacket. I do listen, but I'd listen more with a different singer.
And Van Halen without David Lee Roth is painful to listen to. I'd put that at the top of the list.
Green Day for me - like them, but might love them with a different vocal sound, at least on a number of songs.

I used to home brew before my kids were born. Got pretty good at it - great hobby if you enjoy flavorful beer.
Will return to it eventually, just tough right now to find time for it.
Me too.
Love to play golf. Camp. Smoke cigars.
Don't collect much. Trying to purge stuff; six people in one house = not much room for any one person's stuff. Got rid of baseball cards, beer cans, and vinyl records several years ago. I do collect concert ticket stubs....

Jayhawks "Waiting For the Sun" from Hollywood Town Hall,
Replacements "I will Dare" from Let it Be
Cape Canaveral ~ Conor Oberst
The Who "Baba O'Riley"
I second these.
And throw in Big Star's "O My Soul" from Radio City and the title track from The Jam's All Mod Cons.

As far as the live experience, I agree with: buzzkill and pee break.
As far as the album version, it's meh.

1. Get hammered
2. Wake and bake
This cracks me up! Only she is turning 40, not 20. There once was a time for this, but thankfully not at 40.
I don't think you need to find new friends though. Life shouldn't revolve around alcohol, but I can certainly understand your friends wanting to get fucked up with you on your 40th birthday. They're not bad friends for that. They will be bad friends if they don't respect your decision to just have a few.
Well said.
Most of the time these people are GREAT -- that's why it's so aggravating that they are not listening to my request, and not seeing how important my niece's event is. Amd it does concern me that -- in our late 30s and early 40s, some equate drunk with fun.
We've all be friends for 10 years, so I'm not interested in new ones, just want a little respect.
I think the route is have a few beers, then demurely decline shots & wine -- which leads to migraines. And find an ally.
Thanks for all the ideas -- and the nice words about my niece.
Glad you got some ideas, and sounds like your niece is doing a good deed.

Finding it interesting that Walken only has one vote so far, given how much it gets played live. It is not in the top half of the album for me, might be in the bottom 3.
