  1. I don't think I've seen this posted here. Check out “36 From the Vault” podcast. Steven Hyden and Rob Mitchum going through each Dick’s Picks release. In detail. Pretty cool. I found it listening to the final After Midnight (Big Cypress) podcast where they cross-marketed it.

  2. New box set is June 76. Not my favorite year but I'm sure there will be some gems. A rare GD Mission in the Rain. Don't plan on buying but will give it a listen.

I'm not running to buy this one and I was at the two Beacon shows. I always buy them if there's a show I was at but IDK about June 1976. But in a few days or so I will have probably bought it. It's ingrained in my brain and my credit card.

  3. Posted over in Now Playing but it's the 50th anniversary of 2/13/70 - my fave Dark Star.

Pure magic. This DS played a large role in sucking me onto the bus.

It is, simply put, one of the best dead shows of all time.  The entire second set is absolutely fantastic, probably my favorite dark star of all time.

Oh yes. Isn't this in the '73 Winterland box set? That box set is way up at or near the top of my favorites.

  4. Another killer album from the Truckers. These guys are so damn good.

Here's the review from The Ringer:

Drive By Truckers - The Unraveling A great record for these fucked up times.

    Greg is spot on.

(edited due to the page break)

Kot just announced he's leaving the Tribune. Too bad.

  5. I realize now that my post went way off topic and into the personal., which is how it is with those you truly admire. You relate on a personal level. There isn't a helluva  lot of people that make me feel like that.

The personal is what makes things human and interesting. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Love the photos and words Tim. I've only been able to get through Days 1 and 2, I'm taking it slow and savoring the experience. Like a fine wine  :wine  :thumbup . As I'm going through I'm looking for some shots to add to my office to join your shots from Solid Sound 2010 (or was it 2011).

  7. Excellent. Really jealous. In case it happens again, remind me how much it cost.

I've been wondering how much I spent (I am terrible remembering numbers and at the time the cost didn't matter). I looked back at my account, and with one extra day added I spent $4700 for my son and me to stay in a king size suite with a rooftop deck in bldg. 3, without air. The prices vary depending on room class, I could have spent less or more if I chose. All in all I feel it was great value. Everything was included and there was no shortage of food, drink or music day and night. When I figured out the a la carte pricing for 4 days of concert tickets for two, eating and drinking for two for 5 days and lodging for two for 5 days it was a reasonably priced vacation trip. I recognize that's a lot of $$ and that I'm fortunate to have been able to swing it, but I needed it! And it was worth every penny to me.

  8. We were told 1800 tix sold. Like first SS, very good for the patrons, not so much fore the promoters but they look at this as a long term project.

From my perspective and interractions, I'd say this is a solid Wilco show. Don't get any vibe this is a resort vacation and yeah, we'll here some music kind of crowd. But YMMV.

Nice to finally get to meet our intrepid reporter Paul last night.

    And i got my Monday!

  9. I came for the deep cuts and the deep cuts were much appreciated. I’ve never been to one of these before and was kind of surprised at how relatively small the crowd was, but I suppose there are limited rooms and being able to easily and comfortably get closer to the stage is a selling point.

Thought Courtney Barnett was great but still really wish she had her band with her. I will say, it is pretty neat to see the musicians out and about. Sharon Van Etten and her family is staying down the hall from us and John and Glenn and families are in our building too. I’ve seen Mikael and Courtney out and about a bit too.

Did anyone go to Mikael’s DJ set last night?

Yes, we were at Mikael’s set. I didn’t know what to expect and was thrilled to hear all funk and soul grooves. It was such a nice add to an already amazing night

  10. Color me a tiny bit chagrined, as I'm a non-attendee for this one.  I agree that it's a little surprising to see the deeper "pro fan" friendly cuts.

I can see why the Ode to Joy songs don't really fit in with the whole beach vibe, and why the band might want a little break from the rather heavy set they're touring lately.  But I would have expected a little more "greatest hits" theme - certainly an IG and Jesus etc crowd pleaser in there.  And maybe a little more poppy fluff (Candyfloss, The Song...).  But then again there's two more nights for that.

And any set without a Nova, or the prize-winning NovaCat, is only going to warrant a very faint moment of chagrin here.  Definitely a cool set tho.

That was one show of three. I’ve got patience

  11. Dave's Picks Vol. 34 announcement - 6/23/74 Jai-Alai Fronton, Miami, FL w/bonus disc of 6/22 highlights.

Very psyched about this release. A freaking classic show. I had this on cassette going back years and it was always a fave. Fantastic Spanish Jam. That entire jam sequence is a winner. Will be glad to have this cleaned up.
