  1. So I realized last week I have five Wilco shirts in my dresser -- four of which I wear regularly. One's been relegated to sleeping in, but I'm not ready to let go of it. My family teases me about my Wilco wardrobe, but I bet there's a bunch of you who have WAY more than five!

How many Wilco shirts do you have?

  2. Yes, it is kind of cheesy, in my opinion. The question: why do you ask? I'm curious, as one of a few who doesn't really love the Avetts. (Lots of folks I know think they're great; I just don't see anything exciting or new in what they do -- admittedly, quite well.)

  3. Tickets were around $90 each if you bought early.

Hotels were around $100 / night

Camping is available. Don't know the price on that.

Food was reasonably priced (and delicious) and there was free water available.

Beer (pints) were $4 or $5 bucks.

Transportation will depend on where you are coming from. But parking was free most everywhere and there were free shuttles as well.

    And worth every last penny!

  4. I'm a member of the Jacksonville affiliate, but they're so poor they don't even give gifts! (Or my pledge is too small to merit one). Florida's erstwhile Governor, Rick Scott, cut all state funding for NPR and PBS this year, so I'm pretty much a member for life at this point.

WHEN, oh when, will Terry Gross interview Jeff Tweedy?

  5. Took them both to the Bristol show and my friend, who's been a bit depressed lately, said it was so good that he'll never feel miserable again.

I love that sentiment! The elation of seeing a live Wilco show does feel quite life-changing... but then it fades and you need to see them again, and again! And it shows no sign of stopping.

  6. When you look at the map on the wilcoworld website, you can see the entire southeast coast has had zero shows for this tour. So, as hope springs eternal, I'm holding out for another eastern leg of the tour later in 2012. Or Solid Sound. Must have one or the other -- ideally both!

  7. I've been having the same panic lately! I live in North Florida and got to enjoy the band once in Gainesville and twice in Jacksonville. What with rumors that Solid Sound 2012 isn't a sure thing (scattered about on this forum in the past month or so), and no Southeast tour dates announced for 2012... It makes a girl downright anxious! If it's true that they might skip a year on Solid Sound because of extensive touring in support of The Whole Love, then hopefully during the spring or summer months the band will come back to FLA. But I'm definitely starting to jones that I don't have a chance to get a fix for the (Wilco) fits.

    Whither Wilco???

  8. John Fogerty is playing at the amphitheater in my hometown tonight. I can hear him quite clearly, from my backyard bonfire. So here's what I'm imagining...

Fast forward maybe 20-25 years... you've just bought a ticket to see Jeff Tweedy solo at your local small music venue. It's a good while since Wilco toured, but Jeff still keeps the flame burning. How weird is it to think of that?? A friend of mine at work used to be a HUGE fan of The Band and she went to see Rick Danko play at a small bar in our town, many years later. She hugged him and told him he'd been her favorite singer in The Band, probably her favorite singer ever. And now he's dead.

It's just so bizarre to think about what will happen far off in the future... will we still be listening to Wilco in our compression hose and hearing aids? NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT! It's just I can hear those people, a couple miles away, cheering for John Fogerty and I'm wondering if that will be me in 20 years, cheering for Jeff Tweedy. Time is a strange companion.

p.s. a similar moment struck me, while listening to Nick Lowe sing "Cruel to Be Kind" opening for Wilco in September, and I was thinking about how when I was a kid and that song came out (3rd grade maybe? 4th?), I really liked it. And I never imagined listening to the artist that wrote it, singing it 20 yards from me. Thirty-odd years hence.

Edit: Funny, these musings seemed very profound and interesting last night after a few beers. Just goes to show you, Moosehead does not a philosopher make!

  9. This thread got me officially hooked on VC. With the new record, there might be some fun things to add. I'll start:

Towards the end of One Sunday Morning, the sound that sounds like a plastic ball being rolled around in a plastic cup. Like a kid's toy or the last Tic-Tac in the little container.

  10. I understand the excitement of that accomplishment! It's so fun when someone finally gets what you've been raving about all these years. My best friend of 20+ years came to a Wilco show with me in September, and it clicked -- SHE GOT IT! Very gratifying for best friend and best band to intersect.

  11. I read someplace (can't remember where) that SBS was written just after Jeff's mother died. Never saw that fact corroborated anywhere else, but it has always made me think of "this rotten time" in a different way (in the song SBS).

  12. . Wilco has had a weird way of making my whole music collection more interesting, from Hank Williams to the Beatles to VU to Bowie to Televison. It's changed my life.

This is such a great compliment to Wilco. I only wish I could be more driven to listen to the music collection in my house... the last few years, it seems like it's all-Wilco-all-the-time. Not much else sounds as good to my ears. I really feel like I'm losing perspective by being so focused on the music of just one band. Note to self.... put all Wilco music away for a month and listen to some different stuff! (Who am I kidding -- I can't live without TWL for a week, let alone a month!)

  13. and watching Pat sing background looking like a fish swimming up for food :)

Watching Pat reminded me of the end of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" where the Peanuts Gang is carolling and their mouths are all making "O."

  14. "They're old!" or "You like them? You must be old!" are the most cliche critiques of music ever. This is just a gussied up version of the latter.

I think the author is bored with being an adult. You know, it sucks that you gotta go to work and pay bills, take the kids to soccer/ballet, can't do any fun drugs any more. Perhaps s/he needs to drink a few beers (hoppy or not) and go see a live Wilco show! The shit ain't boring!

  15. , if you're jonesin' for some pretty pics of the boys. I love the ones from that photo shoot.

I guess it's not really a full-on jones... it's just fun to see photos from recent shows, see whose facial hair has changed, whether Jeff's wearing jean jacket or blazer, who has a vest on, what color Nels' pants are (I love the red ones!). You know, all the important details.

  16. Curious where the latest photo that comes up with the website was taken... Ryman maybe? (wood floors on stage, seemed a likely choice). Also I want to complain again about no "photos" link on the new website. What gives?
