That's why the two NZ venues seem perfect, as they have standing ground levels with seated upper levels for those who can't/don't want to stand. Unfortunately I can't think of a suitable venue like that in Melbourne.

Exciting news. Suspect it'll be free downloads from the Roadcase, maybe even of one of the shows from the tour. Some outtakes/demos etc would be exciting, but I can't imagine that happening. -
Great that you got to meet them and get your poster signed. I'm jealous. Any word on when the next tour might be? Also, I think one of the things that makes a difference is whether there is a standing section or not. The band seem to prefer it so I don't know why they play so many venues here that are totally seated. Anyway, here's hoping that tonight is a fitting end to the tour.

It was great catching up with folks. I saw that Milk Carton Kids had announced two shows and given the recommendation I'm keen to go to at least one. Maybe see you guys there?

That's pretty much what happened at the second show - Jeff apologised for the short set the previous night and said it was due to a 'miscommunication'. Said the only thing they thought they could do to make up for it was to play a longer set the second night (although in the end they played the same length as Melbourne and cut some songs from the setlist). -
No point in describing the show since everyone saw it. The only thing to add is the difference between the actual and listed setlist. Less Than You Think Art of Almost I Am Trying to Break Your Heart I Might Via Chicago Spiders (Kidsmoke) Impossible Germany Born Alone Laminated Cat She's a Jar Say You Miss Me Whole Love Box Full of Letters Hummingbird California Stars Forget the Flowers Dawned on Me A Shot in the Arm Jesus, Etc. Hate It Here Heavy Metal Drummer Walken I'm the Man Who Loves You The Late Greats The listed second encore was Red-Eyed and Blue, I Got You, and Outtasite. Late

Great news! Having felt a bit let down last night my hopes are back up. God I hope they play a full set. -

The Opera House confirmed on their facebook page that the short show wasn't because of any venue curfew. I guess that means there might be some possibilty of a normal show tonight? -

Hope you enjoy the Wellington show, its a nice venue. Make sure to look up before you go into the venue to check out the ferns scuplture suspended above Civic Square. -

The organisation for this tour has been pretty awful. Surely whoever books the venues should have a rough idea of how long the band plays and what time limits the venue has. I guess the attraction of playing at the Opera House may have overcome all that, but I know a lot of fans would much rather a decent length set at a different venue, rather than a short hits set at a nice venue. -

Mostly seated, although thats also an Australian thing - if theres seats people will mainly sit. The band didn't seem to mind too much, until the lights came on they seemed to be enjoying themselves, no one seemed sick or anything. The printed set only had two more songs on it, so the short set seems to have been planned from the start. Someone I met at the show said he'd posted something on the Opera House's facebook page asking about a curfew and they said there wasn't one and the band could play as long as they wanted to. -
A very weird (and disappointing) evening with Wilco. They'd already said they weren't doing the long 'Evening with' shows, but I think most people were still shocked when they only played for 90 minutes. The Opera House doesn't have a curfew, so (unlike Melbourne) that wasn't the problem. A group of us bumped into John after the show who said tomorrow will be 'totally different' but then started to talk about something other than the length of the show. We were all wanting to ask him what happened, but none of us wanted to offend him. Hopefully tomorrow will be totally different in that we get

I've put up a link to my recording of this (see link in sig). It's hard to get songs like One Sunday Morning to sound good without getting lots of distortion on stuff like A Shot in the Arm, but I think this is a decent balance. Hopefully people will enjoy it. If anyone wants the second night thats still at least a few days away from being ready.
-
I'd like one, but only to upgrade from where I'm sitting already. I wouldn't want to take one from someone who won't otherwise get to see the show, but if you don't find anyone I'm keen.

I'm sure I saw this on here somewhere, but can't find it anymore. Just in case anyone missed it - Wilco did a radio appearance on RRR in Melbourne the night before their show. The set was: Dawned on Me Sunken Treasure Born Alone Sky Blue Sky Whole Love I Might This was all preceded by a fairly long interview. Nothing too revelatory, although it was interesting to hear Nels try to downplay his guitar skills. I've put up a recording on my blog if anyone wants it (link in sig).

Based on the recording the setlist was: Dawned on Me Hummingbird Handshake Drugs Art of Almost I Might War on War Impossible Germany Born Alone Passenger Side Whole Love Box Full of Letters California Stars Forget the Flowers Heavy Metal Drummer I'm the Man Who Loves You A Shot in the Arm

Opera Bar works for me. I don't get into Sydney until late afternoon, so I might not be able to make a pre-show drink on Tuesday, but other than that I'm easy.
-
Don't have the full setlist - I was surprised how much of the new album they played (glad they have such confidence in it) and that they threw in a few songs that weren't 'hits' (Box Full of Letters and Forget the Flowers). Otherwise it was a fairly standard festival set. The band did a signing after their set and I asked John if the Sydney shows would be the long 'An Evening with' shows or regular, and he confirmed they'll be normal length. I also thanked Jeff for playing the song I asked for when I met them on the last tour - he just gave me a bemused look and said 'Sure. Thanks'. That giv

I thought it was notorious too. Also - yes the last song was definitely Hummingbird and it was on the printed setlist.

I know a few people are going to Sydney and are keen for a drink either pre or post show. There seemed to be a lot of people that have been here a lot longer than me at the Melbourne show, so I assume you're going to Sydney too? Anyway, it looks like a lot of people will be there, so does any local have any suggestions for a good place to have a drink prior to the show? It'd be good to finally meet some folks.
-
You must have been near me. I actually ended up asking with a couple of people if they were you, but no luck! Will have to catch up in Sydney. I ended up meeting a couple of others who are going and keen for a pre/post show drink. Maybe organise a time and location for anyone who is in Sydney and wants to meet up?

Tonight seemed like much more of a fans night, with more rarities thrown in (and a much more enthusiastic crowd). Art of Almost I Might Misunderstood Black Moon Spiders (acoustic) War on War At Least That's What You Said She's a Jar Born Alone Capitol City I Must Be High Say You Miss Me Impossible Germany Passenger Side California Stars Don't Forget the Flowers Theologians I'm the Man Who Loves You Dawned on Me Whole Love Heavy Metal Drummer Hate it Here Monday Outtasite (Outtamind) Via Chicago and New Madrid (!!!!) were on the setlist as the first two songs of the encore but not played.

They're a pretty hirsuite band at the moment. Just need Pat to bring back his beard and encourage Glenn and Nels to join the party!
