  1. I think the 7.19.1974 first set is amazingly underrated. The Scarlet may be the best version from 1974. Also, the best Bertha, Deal and BIODTL of the year...

I recommend hearing the Jerry Moore audience version...It really gives the massive sound feel...

Its almost like two completely different shows - the aud versus the sbd...

    I really prefer the audience...

Seriously - If you like the sbd of 7.19.1974 and you have yet to hear the audience - you are really in for a treat...

  2. The Boston shows from 1976...

On one of the audience shows you can hear a guy inbetween nearly every first set song just screaming (phonetically) "EYE-EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE--EYE..."

  3. I've always really liked the 04 August 1976 show...Heavy heavy heavy Lesh bombs galore...

    Scarlet is really deep...

following a great 2 minutes of Lesh bombing the band enters an amazing Help Slip Franklins Dancin Wheel Sampson...Yow...

  4. The bashing is interesting.

I guess critically they all deserved a lot of bashing.

Jerry post 91 was (imho) horrid...

    Jerry's singing was frequently off...

Weir singing "on our OWWWWWNNNNNNNN" was painfully and wincingly bad after 1987....yow!

Lesh's harmonies in 1970! wow! horrid...

    1978 Keith on piano....

    1976,7,8 Donna wails...

But to say that any one of them was particularly worse than anyone else is absurd...

  5. I think the reason it worked as often as it did is that it wasn't just due to one person. You may like the color green more than any other color, but a rainbow only works with each color individually represented...

Perhaps it had a lot to do with the "family" mentality. Some days everyone gets along, some days not, some days less so, some more so, but on really special days, we all get along exceptionally...

  6. I say again the 1980 Far From Me's were pretty darn good ----- especially the Jerry ending solo and the "Hold on to" harmony from Jerry and Bob, while Brent sang, "nothin to hold on to..."

    Listening to 31 May 1980...Minneapolis...
