  1. Hi,

I don't post often but lurk every day, and this post is by far my most personal, so please, ahem, be patient with me...

This time round I stayed away from the album leaks and the streams and I only heard WTA this week when it arrived at my door. I love it, but one song in particular I would like to thank Jeff and the boys for.

Since I pre-ordered the album a couple of months ago my marriage has fallen apart, and it has been an incredibly emotional and difficult few weeks; it was unexpected and I have truly been at rock bottom.

Listening to One Wing for the first time, the sentiment spoke directly to me. It made me feel heartbroken and hopeful, sad but positive, and I have been laughing and crying at the same time listening to the words. It gives me hope and helps me move on.

Thanks you Jeff, thank you guys, for this song and for shaking me put of my depression. God bless you, see you in London.

  2. Got a pair of tickets too :w00t

Nice opportunity for me to cross the channel.

So pleased to see a non-festival date in the UK; hoping for more :dance v.excited; got 2 tix for VIP tables; troxy looks interesting, cannot wait!!

  3. what great news to get on christmas eve! I'm having an extra glass of egg nog to celebrate!

happy holidays to all here, sorry its been so long since I last posted.

here's to a 2009 full of Wilco! :thumbup

  4. no, but there are a large amount of people who for some reason (extreme fanboyism?) cannot accept that Wilco are even slightly in the wrong.

I like Wilco's music n all, but I owe them nothing, and so I'll speak my mind when they shit on me. If you make a commitment you should stick to it, especially when it's the people that pay your wages that you're gonna piss off. The *only* reason that I'd accept without issue would be "personal reasons". I'd also accept "exhaustion" or illness/injury if it came with a promise to reinstate the gigs within 6 months or so. Anything else is just plain insulting.

Somebody please shut this bloody thread down before this guy posts any more. Please. Enough. Let it go. Nothing else can be said on this subject. :no

  5. Hi all, I've just found out that the show (in Manchester) is cancelled. It it weren't for me telling a friend "you could come too", who then attempted to get a ticket, I would have in all probability turned up for the gig on Friday. My brother bought me my ticket straight from the Academy box office (yay no booking fees or postage), so no emails for me.

So I just turned up here to look for reasons for the cancellation and any further news, but it seems there's nothing here but a weak explanation and a bunch of antagonising douchebag Americans. Cheers guys.

I feel sick at this news. Seeing Wilco for the first ever time was the one gig I'd been looking forward to in the past year. I'd even put off starting a new job (in Germany) to hang around in the north-west an extra week to see them. There are so many expletives that I want to use.

To top it all off we get some weak-ass "We can make more money on this other schedule, than playing to you English bozos" excuse. Way to treat your fans. Heck, they charged enough in the first place for a ticket ($50)! Who do they think they are? U2? Yes it would have been worth it, but that isn't the point.

I'll tell you what good manners are; a rather famous singer had told us that he was going to come buy some art from us last week. He was rushed to hospital for surgery on a brain tumour the day before the appointment, but still managed to relay a message saying that he wouldn't be able to make it. I mean schedule (money) vs. life and death, and they still haven't bothered to address their fans a week on from the cancellation.

I've only been a Wilco fan for the past year, and I've seen people on this thread say how great they are to their fans, but I'm not seeing it...

This is a wind-up, right? :blink

  6. Just seen this at the Broken Horse label blog site http://brokenhorserecords.blogspot.com/

    Autumn Defense Manchester show cancelled

Unfortunately, the Autumn Defense show at the Briton's Protection has been cancelled because Wilco have pulled all their UK shows which were due to start next week. Apologies to anyone who was hoping to come down. The AD should be back in the UK in early 2008 for a proper tour of their own though.

  7. At the risk of pouring oil on troubled waters, can I step in here, 100 or so posts since starting this thread, and try to repair a little of the special US/UK relationship that this forum enjoys and which appears to be in danger here, due to some pretty aggressive and ill-informed speculation and whingeing that's going on from some of my UK compatriots, especially those who are relatively new, who need to educate themselves pretty quickly and read some of the millions of posts on this site about Wilco's generosity and appreciation of their fans.

It would be great if Wilco came more to the UK and more to towns outside London; those of us not in London miss out on a lot, particularly when the bands we like are out of the mainstream. I live in Liverpool, and even here, in a town which trades on The Beatles year in, year out, we are only just gettting our first decent indoor arena. London is cost-effective for bands to visit, so I understand the focus, and I've got the credit card debts, bad train experiences and terrible hotel memories to show for getting down to London, mostly to see Wilco, over they years.

I have been spoiled however by having had chance to see Wilco over the last few years in Manchester, (twice), Birmingham and Nottingham. I, like I think a lot of UK fans, were delighted that there were a few dates out of London coming up again, so to have them cancelled at relatively short notice is a real bitter disappointment, especially as we will all lose money one way or another, to agency fees, handling fees, service fees, etc, etc, which are never refunded.

At the end of the day it's a shame, but that's all. I'm certain the cancellations are for a very good reason that the band feel will be of benefit to them and to getting their music out to a bigger audience, sell more records, do bigger tours, etc, etc.

To suggest the band have little regard for their fans is disgraceful and I disassociate myself from some of the UK members of this forum who are suggesting this. I know Wilco will make it up to us, and I know they will feel bad at letting us down.

This is Wilco; this is not some Simon Cowell wet-dream no-talent one-hit wonder cash-driven bullshit pre-pubescent chart fodder.

  10. Hi,

My pre-ordered CD/DVD of SBS has crackly jumpy sound on the DVD. My wife bought me another copy from a local store, and the sound on this copy has the same poor quality.

Anyone else have this problem, or is it just bad fortune I got two duff copies?

  11. Musictoday is probably doing the drawings, just not announcing winners (do they have to?), and the winners aren't announcing themselves here.

Also, anyone who placed an order with Musictoday prior to the DVD edition were notified that they could upgrade their order for only $5 by April 6. No one on this board seemed to have a problem receiving notification or upgrading.

I definitely did not get such an email. I am in the UK and have since ordered the CD/DVD version on top of the Vinyl/CD package I originally ordered. So that's 2 lots of international shipping. Ouch.

I have emailed the store asking if they can combine shipping as I am being penalised for getting in early, but no response so far.

Good job I love this band.

  12. Got SBS thanks to a PM yesterday, took it out in the car on a long journey last night.

    I think it's superb.

It's the sound of a band extremely comfortable with each other, not under any pressure, happy in their skin and delivering what an album should be in my opinion - a record of who they are and the noise thay want to make at this particular time.

The next record may take us off into more avant-garde territory or it might be gentle and acoustic. Who knows. Wilco is the greatest band working in music today and has never rested on laurels or reached a plateau or churned out the same record over and over (hello Coldplay....)

We are lucky to be along for the ride.

Thanks boys. I love the new record. It will make for some fantastic gigs. I may grow my hair.

  13. I too would welcome the chance to hear this - can someone PM me please????

I've been away from the pc for a few days with the 'flu - proper 'flu, not man 'flu, and hopefully not bird 'flu....

My apostrophe use alone is surely worth someone sending me a link to hear SBS?! Thanks in anticipation...
