  1. Nice! Were you the dude with the big square camera.....about the size and shape of a toaster? Did you have a photo pass?

No, my camera has heft but is not square nor does it cook toast. I did have a pass though. That sounds like a view camera, but I didn't see anyone there with any sort of 'real' camera other than a press guy at the very beginning.

  2. Not bad at all, but I'm noticing that almost every set of post-concert Wilco pictures is so similar to the rest. It's strange, because their sets are so varied and unpredictable, yet I feel like I've seen every one of this pictures so many times before.

Interesting critique. I both agree and disagree on the assessment. For obvious reasons, your average 'fan' shots are all going to look the same. Usually one point of view, from his/her seat. For me, those shots are usually worth looking at for novelty alone (funny expression, cool venue, etc). A more ambitious shooter can offer much more. Even then, most press access type photographers are often restrained by the '3 song rule', which allows pit and venue access for only the first three songs (urban legend has it that this was started by Rod Stewart, who in his vanity became too sweaty and unattractive after three songs). Three songs is simply not enough for any variety at all. You barely have the opportunity to evaluate the lighting, vantage points, etc. Overall, this is good for the band as you wouldn't want hoards of photographers in the pit all night. Even when shooting an entire show, it's pretty much the same guys on stage doing the same thing with the same few lighting scenarios night after night. The main thing (besides photo ability) that allows variety is access and venue layout. Poor access and/or poor sightlines are quite limiting. Under the best of circumstances, it still takes monumental effort to achieve a great diversity of shots.

I somewhat agree with the assessment the Keith's shots are a bit repetitive. A minor edit could improve the viewing. However, they look great so no complaints from me. Very good offering from Keith. Concert photography is much harder than you might think. Because of that, Wilco is the only band I shoot.

Here's a few from the April tour that I never got around to posting here. Clearly there is repetition, but hopefully not boring....

  3. My wife initially thought that Jeff was saying 'I'm a-sassin' down the avenue' as opposed to I assassin. When she learned the truth, she said that she never thought Jeff was the sassy kind.

  4. he had his signature kick-ass j-45 with him, and 3 songs in, broke the high E string while tuning. He had 3-4 other guitars there, so the j-45 was retired for the night and i was heartbroken.

Here is the aforementioned busted string

    chaslor shot? Awesome.

No expectations please ;) From a fixed position, my snaps will be only 2.5% better than your average ones. I actually used a little film camera (Leica) most of the time, have not even seen the results yet. I'll post a few once I get them back. The real keeper from this show (besides our lifetime memories) will be from Warner. Can Not Wait.

What a fine show! Thanks to those who made it happen, you know who you are. One of the highlights for me was Feed of Man, which Lori has been requesting on the tours for quite some time. Let's hope he hands it to Nels for a full blown version.

Special thanks to Morgan and her family, the hospitality was overwhelming. The food spread alone was incredible.

  5. I need help finding a specific Wilco photo. It's from a couple of years ago and I believe it was one the band was selling (framed and autographed) for charity. It was a color shot, but it was still mostly all black and white because of the lighting. It shows just Tweedy, Stirratt and Sansone (and their guitar ends) at an angle from left to right. It's pretty much a silhoutte shot during a song. I don't want a physical copy of it. I just want to copy it from the net so I can use it as my background picture on my computer (as I did on my now defunct old computer). I've done a google image search a few different ways and came up empty. If anyone can lead me to it or post it or email it to me, I'd appreciate it very much. Thank you.

This may be the one, though it is completely black and white. Zoran shot this..

  6. FYI, they did another new song at soundcheck. Not One Wing or Sunny, but one I've not heard before. Jeff repeated something that initially sounded like 'Wilco', but I think he said 'We go'. Sounded really good.

  7. Charles, if you're on here I sort of made eye contact with you and waved a bit in between bands off to the right of the stage. I don't know if you recognized me from all of the Residency shots, but anyway hope you had a good show, Greg

Aha. I know the so many faces, so few names..It was fun indeed. Seriously considered trekking to Delaware. Here's a preview..

  8. I know who you are! :shifty Is your husband going to be working at these shows?

I'll be there! I'll have camera, I'll take pics. Will I be working? Define 'work'... ;)

  9. The photos up on WilcoWorld are in Flash both for protection issues as well as viewing convenience. Each of us own the rights to our own work. That being said, I don't mind personal use such as Desktop or Screensaver, though I frown on distribution w/o permission. I occasionally offer prints for sale to those who request them. If I didn't reply once, I apologize. Like most of us, Wilco is for fun and real work sometimes interferes. I don't recommend screen captures mainly because the image resolution at WilcoWorld is only 600 x 900 pix, not good enough to fill the screen on even the smallest of laptops.

I could put together a small collection of images in various screen resolutions for desktop use. Of course, it would be difficult to respond to masses of individuals each requesting a personal favorite. As far as gallery images for sale, contact me directly for info on that. Warning....they won't be cheap. I'll only offer archival inkjet prints, custom made up to 17 x 22 (will be the same price, no matter the size). If there seems to be enough interest, I'll make some desktop images available for download. Let me know what you think about that.

Here's an overwhelmingly large edit from the Residency. This presents each night as it's own gallery. Many, but certainly not all, of these are up in the Photo section at WilcoWorld.

Hope this is of some use, contact me directly if you're interested in gallery prints.

  10. I miss those smiling faces more than ever!

Great pics (as always), Charles. Thanks for sharing those!

Thank you all for the warm compliments. For me, YOU are as much a part of the whole experience as the band. That's not to say I wouldn't enjoy the band were they to play to an empty theater ;) (I was fortunate enough to see them do Pieholden 3 times that way during soundcheck)

I may not post often, nor can I match Paul and his likes in attendance, but I'm as diehard as the rest of you. That little run of shows was one of the highlights of my life. Thanks to the band and their crew for the warm hospitality and extraordinary access. By the way, Wilco is the ONLY band I ever photograph.

While it may take some time, look soon for some of the best shots of Wilco I've ever made!

Good to meet those of you that I was able to, sorry I didn't get to meet you all......

ps...many have PMd me for prints or hi-res images, I can accommodate, but I'll need some time......
