  1. Can you gimme a hand with Teenage Fanclub? I own Bandwagonesque and I love it. I think the song "The Concept" strikes the perfect balance in their sound to me. The dynamics between ragged guitar and beautiful harmonies. I've downloaded some other random songs but can't find anything I truly love like Bandwagonesque. I've got there greatest hits, and Songs From Northern Britain (albeit I dont listen to them that frequently and all the way through) but im looking for something with the BITE of Bandwagonesque. I love all there cover songs I've accumulated and other random songs stand out (Neil Jung for instance). Just wondering where else I should be investigating....

And just finished John Fante's Ask the Dust today. Dear lord, that was an excellent book!

right after my own heart! im a henry miller nut, own everything he basically wrote and have made me way through about half of it. the man is just flat out brilliant. Fante i'm also trying to get my toe wet with..i bought wait untill spring...and can't wait to get into it!

  3. Frusciante is a very talented artist. All the albums he put out are very good. The albums he made for the record collection label, each made in a matter of days are all very different and well worth picking up.

    -the will to death

    -ataxia - automatic writing

    -the dc ep

    -inside of emptiness

-a sphere in the heart of darkness

    -curtains

  4. I wonder what the other disc has got on it? Maybe those outtakes that were leaked a while back.

This reminds me that I forgot to say Eat The Document as a great music doc. I much prefer it to Don't Look Back which I find a little hard to watch at times, because, to me, Dylan acts like a tosser in it pretty much most of the time.

The first disc of Don't Look Back is going to be the original film remastered. The 2nd disc is a 60 min collection of outtakes assembled by Pennebacker left out of the original film. I'm assuming, much like the Additional footage found as a bonus on IAMTBYH.

I'm a big fan of Eat The Document as well. Unfortunatley I don't think we will ever see a release of this untill Dylan's death. Which is a shame, because my copies quality is decent but leaves alot to be desired. Pennebaker has a rough cut of his version called, "Something Is Happening Here" full of different scenes and overlapping as well. As I believe we've seen parts of in No Direction Home. Maybe someday this will be released as a 2 DVD set...if all keep praying really hard.

    16. All Along The Watchtower

i've seen dylan 5 times in 7 years and this may have been the best all around show i've seen him put on. his voice was the best i've ever heard it. the setlist was pretty solid, could have done without don't think twice or hollis brown (not that i dislike the songs..just would have like to hear something different) She Belongs To Me and Blind Willie McTell were unexpected treats...Spirit On The Water was picture perfect. Tangled Up In Blue sounded fantastic the acoustic guitar (which lead the song!) sounded just like the arrangement on the bootleg series, (just the guitar though)The band really cooked on Highway 61, Summer Days, and Thunder On the Mountain...it's a shame they don't play more fast hard rocking songs...

Was really really hoping for Absolutley Sweet Marie OR Senor and Rolling And Tumblin to no avail. Than I shit my pants when I saw the next night Boston setlist:

    1. Absolutely Sweet Marie

    2. Se

  6. Okay, honestly I started this thread because I've been planning, anticipating, waiting for tonight almost two months now. I've read what you all have said and all I can say for myself is - Dylan was AMAZING.

"For Halloween buy her a trumpet... and for christmas get her a drum"

He hit it, he rocked it, unbelievable.

My favorites were Tangled Up In Blue, She Belongs To Me, John Brown, Hwy 61.

ohhhhhhh im glad you enjoyed it! what was the full setlist?

  7. rolling and tumblin is pretty faithful to the album version... i prefer the album though. he seemed to have taken more care with the vocals.

however, thunder on the mountain seems to sound better live

awwwwww Im excited! two weekends away for me! I was a little upset when I saw him september and he didn't play any new songs. Although I was lucky enough to hear sugar baby, visions of johanna, and stuck inside of mobile...I was hoping for any of the gems on modern times...

and oh yea, while im thinking about it. as much as I love modern times, I still think Love And Theft is the better album...anyone else agree?

  8. I'm in a vast minority here

almost every rock song that has horns, when I hear a version without them I think, "god that's so much better"

admittingly it can sound cheesy if a band who doesn't dabble in horns put them on for random effects. But when bands know what there doing use them the sound can be magnificent. When mchchef1 brought up the stones that a good reference point or even ::ahem:: the beatles. I feel that if Wilco decided to put horns on the album they wouldnt over do it and they would sound delectable.
