  1. The Warren Zevon tribute in LA on Saturday was one for the ages! I was a bit amazed to be reminded of how many different fantastic songs he had written...the show was a good 3 hours with barely a pause between songs. Some great performers too...Jackson Browne, Dwight Yoakum, Scott MCCaughey, Steve Wynn, Susan Cowsill, and so many other gifted musicians, including Zevon's son Jordan. The huge, sold out United Theatre (formerly the Ace) sang and ah-ooo'd our hearts out to "Werewolves of London", and the show's glorious finale saw every musician back onstage (50 or 60 of them?) to join in a fiery, joyous "Lawyers, Guns and Money".

A highlight of the evening was Susan Cowsill's heartfelt "Mohammed's Radio". All in all, an emotional night for this Zevon fan! It benefits both the Wild Honey organization, which supports its autism work, and organizations that are in response to mesothelioma cancers and asbestos, which is what Warren died of. I don't recall the specific names but I think one was the Ed Asner Foundation.

Those kids are absolutely joyous, performing like seasoned pros, although they're just getting started. The show outside Pittsburgh was the first night of their tour and it happened only hours before their record "Restless" was released on John Prine's label. So you can imagine how stoked they were. The bass player, Manoa wore his homemade Nudie suit. :wub

Palmyra would fit right in at Solid Sound. Work that kidsmoke magic!

I have my doubts about my magic but I'm currently listening to "Restless" and liking it a lot! I love Prine's label.

Technically it is a musical, but we went to see " Sunny Afternoon" at Chicago Shakespeare. It is based on the music of The Kinks.  If you are a fan, it is must see! If not, it lacks character development, but the music, the costuming, and musicians are excellent.  The songwriting of Ray and Dave get their due. The personal and professional tension among the brothers as well as Mick Avory is not skimmed over. See it if in Chicago thru April 20th.

Will the production happen in any other cities?

  4. The sadness is almost crippling. We could have been looking at such a bright, hopeful future, but instead, this. Existential dread.

Please, somebody, remove this cancer from our body politic before our country disintegrates.

Still trying to pick myself up and dust off. We have work ahead of us. Do it for Jimmy Carter.
