  1. Wow, I never knew that my simple support of a sportscenter segment would bring about so much hate on a wilco message board. People must loathe this shit to go this far out of their way to make sure they let me know that I'm not in the viachicago majority :chatterbox and I should not consider myself a "cool" sportscenter viewer. As if my Monday could get any worse, now my self-esteem as at an all time low because other Wilco fans dont like who's now. :lol I should be so lucky that this light has been shed upon me.

    "It's Not About You."

This just struck a nerve. I've been watching Sports Center for years. The show revolutionized TV sports reporting. It's informative, brash, and until now assumed the viewer is intelligent. Now, they are discussing who is more "hip" Derek Jeter or Tiger Woods in an NCCA tourney format with a panel of Hollywood celebrities who have something to promote. I feel embarrassed for all involved.

  2. Sports Center has finally Jumped The Shark.

In my music travels, I have met members of the SC writing staff. Most are hardcore sports AND music fanatics. They used to throw out many little musical references that made even less sense than this one. I like it though cause I'm always picturing most guys scratching their head saying "Who's Jeff Tweedy. What's Wilco?"

If I ran into anyone from SC now, I would tell them how weak Who's Now is. I think they know.

  3. The two day pass is awesome. It comes out to $34 a ticket including service charges.

Thank you. thank you. thank you.

I've seen two shows there. It's enormous for a club. Think Aragon in Chicago for size comparison. The sound is really good. It's crystal clear from the very back! If you get in early there are some great places to stand, but they go fast. Good beer selection.

  4. because the guy running site, Rob, has a life outside of the internet, and he's probably too busy with real life things to get to it right away.

Having a life outside the internet is soooo 1990's.

  5. basically i cant upload it because the CD i have is a watermarked version from the record company. watermarked means its linked to me, so if it gets passed around the internet the record company can trace the files back to me and put me in prison, which, I'm not really up for! :)

The other prisoners don't take too kindly to the "copyright infringement violators"

  6. I went last night and Wednesday, and I thought Indy blew away Iowa, especially energy-wise. Glenn and Nels were both on fire last night. A bit more low-key in Iowa.

The new material shines!!! Especially Side With the Seeds, You are My Face, Hate It Here, and Shake It Off. The Indy crowd exploded after each as if they were old favorites. The best part of the show in my opinion was the first encore. Sunken Treasure was performed similar to Jeff's solo version with Jeff on acoustic with harmonica. The band played minimal accompaniment until the end when it crescendoed into a steady noise. Beautiful. From out of the noise came the beginning of Spiders. Spiders just kicked ass. I've seen it a lot, and some versions grab me more than others. I like Spiders when it's patient, exploratory and just ridiculous energy. Indy had everything. After the first rave-up, they added another build and climax into the "Why can't they say what they want" verse. I've never seen that. I liked the fake ending better with the clapping. In Iowa, the band just stood and looked smugly at the crowd that thought the song was done.

Did anyone notice that at the end of War on war Jeff went over to talk to Glenn and then spit across his drum set? Glenn wiped off the set with a towel and through the towel at Jeff!

I thought lowering the macrame owl from the ceiling was hilarious in a Spinal Tap way. This could be the Macrame Tour. People should bring macrame to shows and offer it up to the band.

  7. I'll be there. I still have an extra in Sec B Row A. Great seat. I don't care about the $$. I just want someone to take it that's fired up for the show.

I read through this thread and didn't get the sense of a meeting place. I'm driving out from Chicago solo and would like to meet up for dinner and drinks.

  8. I just remembered this crazy night:

    10-30-2004

Wilco played the Auditorium on the middle night of their Halloween run. After the last note of Be Not So Fearful, we jumped in a cab and went to Metro.

Drive by Truckers walked out onstage literally as we got to the top of the stairs of the main floor at Metro. It was 11:30pm. They raged straight through to 2:30am.

    a legendary Chicago evening.

Here's a link to the show:

  9. Woah! That's a big kick in the gut.

I've been catching 3-4 DBT shows a year since Decoration Day. This will be a major change to their sound. Decoration Day and Outfit are two of my favorite DBT songs. I'm more of a fan of Jason and Patterson, than Mike.

They were on such an upswing for the past four years, playing to bigger and bigger crowds. I hope this does not become a setback. Patterson and Mike struggled for so many years to get to where they are today.

I wish Jason the and the Truckers the best. I'm looking forward to seeing Jason tomorrow night

  10. Hey LTIT, I had a nice time talking to you and Lou at Clarke's (and I can't remember your civilian name, I'm sorry, but I had been up for about twenty hours on 5 hours of sleep by the time I got to Clarke's, on top of a 6 hour drive with two teenage boys, so you'll have to refresh my memory).

The civilians call me David. It was great to meet you. I had a blast Friday night. Hopefully, see you in Indy?

  11. The poster is "totally awesome".

I'm still in awe about last night. Jeff and Sue went above and beyond for this event. Incredible.

The balcony was full almost to the top. With seats downstairs, I was torn. The front of the Vic's balcony is one of my favorite places to see music anywhere. I managed to recruit the legendary Lou B to sit up there. We were howling during some of the stage banter.

    My Highlights:

Pot Kettle Black - It's such a great song, and it works solo acoustic. Please bring it back into the Wilco rotation!

    The Good Part

Your are My Face - Last night, it hit me over the head what a great song this is.

Less Than You Think - Solo acoustic, it's still chilling. Very cool.

    When the Roses Bloom Again

Perfect crowd. Rowdy between songs, but SILENT when Jeff was playing. Woo-Hoo!

  12. Before the doors were open, Sue walked through the line and took requests. She wrote the song and the name of the requester on large sheets of paper which were taped down on stage as Jeff's songlist. For the most part, Jeff announced the names of the requesters from the stage.

I've never seen anything quite like this before.

I didn't keep a setlist, but here is some of what was played.

    Remember the Mountain Bed

    Radio King

    Kamera

    Pot Kettle Black

    Pecan Pie

    The Lonely 1

  13. I'm such a slacker. I don't keep up with viachicago.

I just walked by the Vic and saw "April 6 Jeff Tweedy" on their l'il upcoming shows board, and made a quick scamper to the ATM. I got home and realized I have Pat Metheny tickets at Symphony Center for the same night.

    Tweedy wins,

    Showverwhelmed Again in Chicago

  14. Nickel Creek's Chris Thile performed last Thursday at the Abbey Pub with a group of musicians including guitarist Brian Sutton. Chris invited Glenn to the stage to perform on The Band's Ophelia. Glenn played a single snare drum, and he left after the one song.

Chris was touring on his latest solo CD, How to Grow A Woman From the Ground.

    The entire show was outstanding.
