Does anyone know what bizarre instrument(?) Regine was playing on the SNL performance?
from Wikipedia:
A hurdy gurdy (alternately, hurdy-gurdy) is a stringed musical instrument with several strings arranged so that they can be played simultaneously by a rotating wheel covered with rosin. It is essentially a mechanical violin. This method of producing sound is similar to string instruments such as the violin, but because the hurdy gurdy produces several notes together, with a melody accompanied by chords made by "drone strings", its sound is perhaps more comparable to that of bagpipes. For this reason, the hurdy gurdy is often accompanied by the bagpipes, particularly in French and contemporary Hungarian folk music.

Hey folks - does Arcade Fire have any sort of fan presale I can sign up for, or did you all go through Ticketmaster for the Chicago shows?
No.
There was some sort of presale for the Portland show only but that had nothing to do with the band - a venue or radio station thing. No other presales.
Good luck!

The show I saw them do in Montreal a few weeks ago was a magical, make you speechless, can't stop grinning, end of show exhausted, truly fucking amazing experience.
That said, I can understand why some people are confused that they followed Funeral with Neon Bible.

long journeys wear me out

actually Intervention was better than ANY of the warmup show performances of it
The recorded version relies so heavily on the organ - I was glad to finally see some greater use of keyboards in the live setting.

Is he pretty much of a dead ringer for a younger Tweedy?

Please NOTE: This should stop all the confusion regarding DNA, When said it has been SAVED on the DNA CP/CC database, This is a company who saves items on their database, Because it is called a DNA database this does not mean they have her DNA ! DNA is the system they use and most eBay members know of this. for the few who don

I would think the $ offers Weller has already seen to reform The Jam are pretty huge. I really don't think he'll go anywhere near this.

This story would only make sense to me if the tour started April 1.

Eclipsed only by the riveting stories of which of three or four men may be the father of Anna Nicole's baby
It's not like there is a war, major national election, or enviromental issues, for Fox news to waste it's time on
Which was itself then eclipsed with the wonder of Judy Judy going on Larry King to pronounce on all this
This is Britney's bravest career move since she married that first guy (the one that lasted 24 hours - William Hung was his name I think)

So I bought the 3-disc Burt Bacharach box set from Rhino, The Look Of Love. Is this man not one of the greatest songwriters off all time or what?
That's a great set. I somehow managed to find a copy for $6. Might have been the deal of a lifetime.
Oh yeah, Painted From Memory is wonderful!

I would heavily urge you to go to the Black Sheep to see Geoff Berner. Half stand-up. half music. great concert.
I was at the BSI earlier this week to see Josh Ritter and said to some people we met there something like "if you like the idea of an somewhat insane guy playing accordian and ranting, you really should see Geoff". I have seen him before and thought he was fantastic (sort of like what Hammell on Trial would sound like if he was from the Ukraine) - but it was at a festival so his set was time-limited. So yeah, I agree that he's great and I very well may go out there for that.

Ox- American Lo Fi
Something else I heard about here and am now digging...... Plus, they're coming to the Black Sheep Inn which is like a nirvana for shows.

yesterday i signed up with emusic, and then regretted doing it, so i cancelled my account. now the stuff i got yesterday doesn't work. so, i was wondering if anybody out there would YSI (or sendspace or the like) a couple songs that i'm missing (i was able to get most of the albums on my ipod before i cancelled except these tracks)... anyway, i am missing:
"Northline" from Winnemucca by Richmond Fontaine
and
"Trick Bird", "Saw Tooth Sung a Cheater's Song", and "Lion & Bee" from Heron King Blues by Califone
thanks for any assistance!
Give us a few minutes here but I think I can do that

I skipped a date here earlier in the tour because I wanted to avoid the potential disappointment but as with others here, I'm hearing now that they're doing a pretty good show.
-
No diggity. Hopefully the shows don't lose all of their energy from the combination of larger venues and the more subdued new songs.
There is still nothing approaching Rebellion or Power's Out but the new stuff is performed with a lot more energy live than I might have thought.

You know I saw your message earlier and I actually went into online banking and was going to PM you my balances but now I'm REALLY depressed. How the hell did I end up so far in debt?
