It might be that I associate the song with the video too much, but the crescendo in this song cuts me to the core.

If you got the newspaper album you can now download The Butcher and Supercollider, their record store day 12".
Honestly, over the past month and a bit since the record came out I've come to really love it and I'd rank it up in my favourite Radiohead albums. I'm probably in the minority but I just really love that it is a concise album with a very definitive feel to it, and Supercollider especially is a nice welcome addition to the songs.
I was coming here to mention Supercollider. It has a great groove to it and Thom's voice sounds very strong. I haven't given The Butcher a fair shake yet, so I'll refrain from commenting on that right now.
TKOL is wonderful. Separator is climbing up the list of my top Radiohead songs. I do find it hard to believe that, with the latest 12" included, they only recorded 10 songs in the last 4 years. They recorded a TON more during every other album session; it seems weird they would stop doing that now. I don't know what's ahead, but I definitely feel more music coming between now and the end of the year.

Los Campesinos!
Robyn
Specific songs:

The Fox - Sleater-Kinney
Letter From an Occupant - The New Pornographers
Common People - William Shatner
Ghost - Neutral Milk Hotel

I should block myself from reading this post. Every time I see it, I'm that much closer to buying it...

Pitchfork is webcasting the final show. You better believe I'll be in my all white and jamming out in Rhinelander!

We are spoiled rotten knowing that, thanks to this man, a superb review is coming after 99% of Wilco (and associated) shows. Always capturing the big picture in the setlists, and the little treats in banter and stage theatrics. Thank you for all that you do Paul.

I would rather not put these up on Craigslist, but if I don't have any offers by the weekend, I think that's where they're headed.

Two for Jeff's show in Madison. Row C on the left side of the stage. Face puts them at $80 total. There is one hang-up: they are under my name at the venue will call. I will try and change the name for the tickets (this place is notorious for being ticket sticklers), but I will be at the show and can pick them up and give them to you there.

Love. Them. Treats was just long enough for my drive to work this summer, so I always blared it with the windows down. Infinity Guitars is 2 minutes of ass kicking fun. When the guitar gets turned to 11 in that song, I lose it.
-
The Chili Peppers come to my mind. The best example of this has to be a lot of the verses in Give It Away.

I side with you on Pablo, Solace. Anyone who's a fan of Radiohead's guitar assault should love a handful of songs on there. Above all, they should defend Blow Out to the death, because it is still one of the group's best guitar moments.
Is it the visionary Radiohead most of us love? No, but it solid given the atmosphere when it was released. Full disclosure: I wasn't even 7 when it came out.
-
Kid A, OK Computer, The Bends, In Rainbows
Amnesiac, HTTT, TKOL
Pablo Honey (still love this album, but it's on a different plane than the rest)

Just wait until next year's Grammys and Neil Diamond saying "And the album of the year goes to...The King of Limbs".
-
I really see Pitchfork going the other way on this. Granted, that'll be around an 8.7, but that's saying something considering the lowest rating PF has given a Radiohead album is 9.0 (Amnesiac). So they'll imply it's their worst, save Pablo Honey, but it's still pretty damn good.

Out of curiosity, would there be any chance that someone makes this a referendum on the April ballot? With such a polarizing issue, why not put it to the public and let the majority rule?
I understand we have elected officials to make these decisions for us, however, this issue seems to be ripping the state apart. In my eyes, a public vote would put the issue to bed once and for all.
Does this make me sound incredibly idealistic?
Also, Beltmann, as a Wauwatosa native and the son of a South Milwaukee teacher/union representative and an MPS music teacher, I can understand your pain.

I've been able to listen to the album several times since nabbing it at 5am yesterday--a 4 hour drive will certainly aide in that effort. Every successive listen makes me fall in love with this album. Is it in the top 5 Radiohead albums for me? No, but considering those 5 are more or less classics, it would take something spectacular.
I was totally put off by the first listen. No tracks jumped out at me except for Separator. But then Codex revealed its slow beauty, and Giving Up the Ghost--a personal favorite since the Atoms for Peace tour--is achingly beautiful. It still sounds more like a Thom solo album or a collection of "also rans" a la the second disc of In Rainbows, but it is a solid set of songs from one of the world's best band.
There was a BBC review that said TKOL is "an intake of breath before the band's next big creative exhale". That sums it up best for me.
I also have my conspiracy theories about the lyrics and title of Separator: "if you think this is over then you're wrong" could be a wink from the band that more music is on the horizon when the Newspaper version of the album comes out. Kind of a "reverse In Rainbows" (GREAT bedroom position, btw) where the second disc comes first but there is a different album waiting in the wings. Or, with a title called Separator, there could be a second half of the album that the band releases sometime soon. I can even see the Dead Air Space post now: oops. silly me. forgot to post the rest of the album. here you go.
Even if this is the last new music from my favorite band for several years, I'm quite happy with it. I can't wait to see what else becomes revealed upon successive listens.

I had tickets for their three nights at the Aragon a few years back. Sadly, they canceled a ton of shows on that tour. I always thought I'd get to see them again, but I guess once is enough.
This incarnation of Jack White will be sorely missed.

the cool thing about that clip is that it is edited work-print film, not cut negative. the work print is marked with grease pencil for the negative cutter. before each edit there is a ramping mark that indicates an edit is coming. in one spot there is a pencil mark in the middle of a shot. that indicates an "unintentional edit." could be that the shot was extended after it has been initially cut or that it was a mistake. the mark (which is an = made across the edit) indicates to the negative cutter not to cut the negative at that frame.

This is one of my favorite On a Friday (early Radiohead) tracks. Jonny's distinct guitar sound is there, but this sounds a lot poppier than anything they've done.

I've only met her once, and briefly at that, but I wholeheartedly concur. Happy Birthday!

Who would have thought that Boy George would be the voice of reason? I completely agree with him. There are some girls (and boys) that obsess over everything Gaga says and does, and admitting to cocaine use should concern a lot of parents. I don't think that this is going to be a feud, as Gaga tends to respect her glam forefathers. But, she's batshit insane at times, so this could spark into something nice.
Review: The National + Arcade Fire in St. Louis
in After The Show
Posted
I was at all three Chicago shows. Words cannot describe how amazing that run was. The Arcade Fire and The National are two of my favorite bands, and this dream twin bill did not disappoint for a second.
Both bands kept upping their game with each successive night. The first song The National played Friday was Runaway, so it kinda started off very slowly. However, by the time they left the stage each night, EVERYONE was moving around and amped for Arcade Fire. I can't wait to see The National headline tonight in Milwaukee!
I personally think Radiohead and Wilco are THE two best live bands around now, however Arcade Fire is about to bust through the wall Janet Reno style. This band is at the top of their game right now. If you can see them this tour, and I know there are only a few dates remaining in North America, DO IT NOW! Everyone is smiling and having fun on stage, and the production value is very high for an "indie" band. Anyone who is a fan of music, and within a day's drive, should make an effort to see this tour. After the international run this summer, they will likely disappear and start working on their next masterpiece.
One of the Chicago radio stations webcast Sunday's show, so there is a good quality boot out there somewhere. I HIGHLY suggest finding it.
I might post more later, but I have to scoot down to the Riverside for The National (and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart...another band that is on a quick rise!).
