  2. fuck me. elephant jokes and army are killing me right now...two great albums from the man this guy is having a career renaissance uncle Bob!
  3. Here's my 30 song Best of recent Bob mix...I focused on most of the 2009 releases for some reason, with some older stuff thrown in because its so good. 4. ....anddddd to continue my ranting, a good example of what that blog was saying about Bob's conviction is when he sings "Ah yes, my bitch" on Talking Dogs. Completely off putting and comforting at the same time....love it.
  5. I pretty much agree with all of what that guy said...don't get me wrong....I absolutely ADORE Bob. I broke out the film Watch Me Jumpstart tonight and went on an hour-long rant about how great Bob is to my girlfriend, who probably didn't even fucking GET it. most people never will. the man is a rock n' roll machine...I can't think of any other artist I'd rather sing along and pump my fist in the air to. One of the true "geniuses" of our time - no doubt. I don't want anyone in this thread to think I'm slighting the guy in any way when I knock his recent Todd-stricken output... that being
  6. most Pollardheads rank that album pretty high, I think. it's a great one...so melodic... i loved when Bob would introduce that stuff live..."this is a song from Speak Kindly of Your Volunteer Fire Department...because they might just save your burning asshole" thanks for the mixes, guys...I'll post mine when I'm done with it
  7. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here...while I certainly LOVE Pollard, I cannot bring myself to put him above Dylan, Neil or someone like Tom Waits. However, it's nice seeing someone champion Pollard somewhere other than DTS. Just for the hell of it, I'm curious to see what your 20 or so GREAT Bob songs since Normal Happiness mix would look like? I'm working on a mix for a friend who fell off the wagon after NH as well and need input.
  8. You've brought this up before, and I'm curious what makes you feel Pollard is the "greatest ever"? I love the guy - he's a unique and ridiculously talented songwriter in a prolific and melodic sense, but lyrically I would not put him in the same league as a Bob Dylan or Neil Young. Not even close.
  9. I've been on a GBV kick for a bit after ignoring everything Bob-related for about a year...just burnt out on him after Normal Happiness. I would agree that pretty much everything from FSB through FaCE is good to great. What has been extremely frustrating, for me, is how Bob just seems to be in cruise control mode lately - write a bunch of songs, send the demos to Todd, sing over them, release, repeat process 5 or 6 times a year. I will admit, however, that one could make a hell of a 30 or so song compilation tape that would easily top anything released in this decade. The man still does wri
  10. Looks like they're releasing a remastered Basement Tapes on March 31.... I've been real into the Basement Tapes lately, and was curious as to what ya'll thought about this situation... It's no secret that the Band tracks on the 1975 official BT were not actually basement recordings...Robbie apparently "lo-fied" them to make them sound similar to Dylan's output. However, they are really good songs...are we supposed to plead blissful ignorance on this and just be happy with the flow of the officially released album? Or would a straight 'basement tapes era recordings' mix be more "real"?
  11. Cardinology has some great tracks and some duds....overall it's somewhat sub-par....however, I just made this mix of the best Ryan songs from his last three releases: Easy Tiger, Follow the Lights, and Cardinology Goodnight Rose (Live Version) Born Into A Light Everybody Knows Go Easy Down In A Hole Fix It Two Tears Of Gold Cobwebs The Sun Also Sets Off Broadway Blue Hotel Two Hearts Let Us Down Easy My Love For You Is Real Crossed Out Name These Girls Natural Ghost Follow The Lights I Taught Myself How To Grow Old Stop it's amazing the a

  19. I've seen this billed as "An Evening with Tom Waits" as far as I know, there's no opener.
  20. got balcony seats for Akron this morning. I had great orchestra seats on my first try and ended up losing them because tickbastard kept logging me out when I got to the submit order page.. I HATE that website. tickets sold out in 20 minutes.....I hope everyone who wants to go got in. I'm psyched. this will be my first time seeing Tom, and he's at the top of my "people to see before they die" list. God knows when he's going to tour again......
