  1. I have a room booked from that Thurs - Sun at the Holiday Inn. But my bandmate has a house in Cannan, NY and just asked me to get him tickets and stay in his really nice house on a mountain with his wife and me and my wife - so I might be giving up the reservations.

I grew up in Canaan, NY! This is remarkable mostly because its one traffic light is flashing yellow and I can't fathom a Wilco fan living there!! Cool!

  2. It not going to sell out the first day tickets go on sale stay home

I don't mean to be an alarmist, but I think these tickets are gonna go like hotcakes. It's not a big place and it's their only East Coast date this summer.

I toyed with the idea of driving up, but I can't swing the day off right now, plus Hartford tomorrow night! Also, in my alarmist mind set, I was afraid that the tickets would be gone by 11:00 and the box office wouldn't have anymore, though I suppose they hold a certain amount. I don't know, I'm just real nervous about it. Gotta get my game plan together for the morning. How do I keep people away from my cube at the critical hour?!?!? Can I manage to pretend I'm on the phone while navigating the always nervewracking Wilcketing process?

Does anyone know if I'm going to be required to enter some obscure password going through the Wilco site?

  3. I booked it Tuesday night at $145 a night, which was the AAA rate and is refundable. The prepaid rate was $138, but I wanted the flexibility to back out if plans change. I wonder how many others did the same?

I booked a room Tuesday night and accidentally clicked the prepaid rate which turned out to be $162 a night for a king (Fri & Sat). Oh well. I'm sure if I can't get W(TF)tickets I can find a taker for the room.

Another idea that people might want to explore is going in with others on a vacation rental. We often rent private residences when we travel and find that it's often cheaper and really convenient to have a kitchen and other amenities of home. We usually use vrbo.com. Here's a search of available rentals in Williamstown that weekend - VRBO

  4. Okay, well, I did it. I booked a room for this place: http://www.mapleterrace.com. I just got off the phone from confirming my reservation and the lady I spoke with was super nice. Now I just have to get the tickets and airfare. Sometimes being an adult is fun!

As someone who's technically been an adult for some time now, I can tell you that you did the right thing. You won't regret it.

  5. I don't think you need to purchase tickets at exactly the time tickets go on sale. They are general admission for a three day event. People will be coming and going. I wouldn't be surprised if tens of thousands of people will come through the event over the weekend. I don't think it is possible to sell out like a regular Wilco concert in a theater. But if you buy them early you get a bit of a discount. I'd be more worried about finding a room to stay in near by to avoid long travel distances everyday.

I'm very bad spatially and totally talking out my arse, but I don't know - I've been there and I have a hard time imagining where they would put even a thousand people.

I've been studying this for clues.

  6. I just remembered that I took this picture at MassMoCA a couple years ago when I was on a Wilco. Now faux vandalism jag. There was this amazing exhibit there that you could contribute to and this was my temporary contribution, documented for posterity. What would we be without wishful thinking, indeed!

  7. That place called "Porches" looks awesome (albeit pricey), but no openings for that weekend. I wonder if they are going to offer some travel pkgs???

Porches is awesome and run by MassMoCA. I checked there, too. I assume that's where the band will stay. I'll be at the Holiday Inn.

Earlier info said tix would be available through MassMoCA's site (which made me nervous) but now I see this:

Tickets for SOLID SOUND FESTIVAL are on sale this Friday, April 9 through the bandʼs

official website wilcoworld.net and through solidsoundfestival.com.

I wonder which is the better bet. Need to get my game plan together for Friday morning. I think this will be the first time that I buy Wilckets and see them on the same day!! Whoo!

  8. Last Friday, I busted out Phish's A Live One for a drive, with the windows down! It was remarkable.

The White Stripes Elephant is my annual first-drive-with-the-windows-down listen. The only time I listen to it all year.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I'm putting together a mix and would be happy to share when it's done.

  9. This op-ed piece reminds me why I dug Alex Chilton. And why I dig Paul Westerberg.

I was out running yesterday morning (in shorts and a tank top, oh blessed spring!) and wondering about PW and how we was taking this. I was wishing that there was a way for him to check in on this, and for us to check in on him. I was perusing the Times after my run and lo and behold! It was so good to hear from him.

  10. My whole fam is here too, clustered around the computer! :lol Modern family times, haha. We do love our Wilco!

Well, our family consists of me, my old man and a yellow dog, but she keeps real good time with her tail!

What's this now? Oh...ITMWLY! Everybody up!!!
