  1. I love seeing Dylan. I think a lot of it is the new arrangements to the older songs. Back in '09 he played a rocking version of It's Alright Ma that came seemingly out of nowhere. I also love his recent albums so it's nice to hear those tunes in a live setting. Whenever he comes to town, I will see him.

  2. Nothing is ever gonna top my very first Wilco show which was in NC. It was a complete surprise until the tickets showed up a couple weeks before the show (I was 18 at the time, fresh outta high school, had no job, and my dad surprised me with the tickets, he got them from a fellow VC'erBrianne and I had no idea).

Anyway, tix came in the mail and I was already excited beyond all belief then I got an email from another VC'er jhammwho told me if I wanted to get anything signed I should bring something. I figured maybe we'd wait by the bus our something. So, we roll into town and meet this jhamm and his two friends that came all the way from the westcoast. We're on the sidewalk chatting, and he says "oh by the way...this is for you," and hands me a backstage pass. I flipped out a little bit....actually...a lot. The show starts and is so great. So great. They opened with "misunderstood" and about 3/4 of the way through the main set jeff says "we'd like to say hello to SarahC, where's Sarah?" Some girl in the front yells and jeff says "is she over here?" And I start yelling from the opposite end of the theatre, "over there?" Jeff points in my direction and my dad whistles, this look of absolute disbelief on his face. I'm holding my hands on top of my head like "what the crap!!" Jeff says "I don't know where she is, but hi Sarah glad you could finally make it to a wilco show! I am stunned. The show ends and we go backstage and end up spending about a half hour with the band. I am never ever going to forget it. Jeff was so nice to me, and really listened when I told him my difficulties about playing guitar and told me to keep at it. Every time I see him he still remembers me too which is crazy. I'm still sort of floored that Brianne, jhamm, and my dad all kinda conspired to make it happen... Probably other VCers helped too. Just amazing.

And this is partly why I love and never tire of Wilco. What show in NC was this? I first saw them in Raleigh in '04.

  3. Seeing The Doors (of the 21st Century) in 2003. They played the L.A. Woman album for the very first time! At the end of the show, I was standing at the front of the stage when Ray Manzarek walked out and stood inches from me. He asked if we wanted to hear more and then proceeded with a fiery Soul Kitchen. I met Ray earlier that day as he was sunbathing behind our hotel. I ran into Robby Krieger beforehand in the hotel lobby as well. We also shared an elevator ride the next day after the show.

And there was one time that Bob Dylan looked right at me while taking a bow after the end a show. That's pretty much like meeting the Dali Lama!

  4. I downloaded the new Bob Dylan album off of iTunes first thing this morning. As soon as it was done, I sent the songs straight to my iPhone. Man, I was stoked for the morning drive. That was until I tried to play a song and it would stop 4 seconds in. I went through each song like this before I officially decided that digital music is not for me. Long story short; keep the CDs.

  5. Has anyone been keeping up with the 50th anniversary tour rumors? Looking like Donna Jean Godchaux, Nels Cline, Neal Casal, Phish, etc. will be a part of this. I've never witnessed any of this music live so I'm hoping the tour comes around the NC way.

  6. I'm not sure if this has been touched upon, but in light of the band's 20th anniversary, a greatest hits comp and a rare tracks collection, I think it's high time a name is chosen for us. The Grateful Dead have the Deadheads. Jimmy Buffet has the Parrotheads. Ryan Adams has the Halloweenheads. What about Wilco? Any ideas? How about the "Dixiecupdrinkerheads?"

  7. Thanks for the recommendation. I've been trying to download shows that are out of my comfort zone. This 10/20 is stellar. Jerry doesn't sound too froggy on this one (at least not to me.) And I would def say that the 'Samson and Delilah' from this night may be my fav. I usually gloss over that song but this one is good.

How do you all normally listen to these shows? I prefer matrix recordings when they're available. I re-listened to an audience recording of 5/25/77 the other night and like it better than the official release. Seems to have more energy.

  8. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, Windows will not allow you to alter the file names which contain special characters. I've searched numerous forums online without any luck. Maybe I will have to download another show :(

Edit: I was successfully able to change the track names within the bit torrent client!

  9. Sorry to post this here but figured you guys in this thread can help me. Now I'm a relatively seasoned user of bit torrents but hit a snag this morning while trying to convert some GD FLAC files to WAV. Windows will not let me convert files with special characters (!,?,/,%, etc.) Have any of you encountered this problem before? If so, are there anyways around it? Feel free to PM me with any responses as I don't feel this belongs here (even though it indirectly deals with the GD.)

  10. I think it's sometimes nice to have an overview of one of your favorite bands/musicians; something you can put on when you have a craving but don't know what to listen to. I've been an avid fan of The Doors since I was 12 and often reach for one of their compilation albums when I'm in the mood for their music but not an album.

Btw, my AMF number is 1067. Who got 1066 and 1068?

  11. No. There is no mention of the live tracks in the vinyl's booklet.

I didn't even think about the downloads not being ready until release date! Now I wish I could retract my email. Fortunately, it was not a mean one.

  12. So it looks like Warner has not added the downloads to their website yet. I just redeemed my card and everything that should be there is not. I've just sent them an e-mail letting them know that the download is missing. Hopefully it will be rectified soon.

On a brighter note, the vinyl is sounding wonderful! I can truly say that I have not been as captivated by a collection of music as I am right now with this set. And to think I contemplated even purchasing this release at all...

  13. My vinyl copy arrived today. I took a quick look at it before heading off to work and it looks mighty nice. The box and its contents resemble the Kicking Television vinyl box. However, the booklet inside is a lot nicer. Can't wait to spin these later tonight.

  14. The comments in that article are amusing. I've never heard any of those theories before. I'm waiting for the "Mickey is an alien" theory to surface soon.

All of this '77 talk inspired me to break out the 5/9/77 matrix from Hunter Seamons. I don't have much '77 in my collection but do love this show!

  15. When Fallon told Charles Barkley that it was four words and Barkely replied, "Karate Kid!" I laughed for a while. Jeff's 'Cat in the Hat' was classic, too.

I really love their performance of Cars Can't Escape. Never would of guessed in a million years that those 2 songs would be recorded for prime-time TV. I bet the third song was Kicking Television, haha.

  16. I meet your last night and glad you enjoyed your 30th. Standing on front row seats was perfect for sound and view. Jeff was in rare banter form last night IMO. He was even asked if he "was High" and his response was "no I am Low but not that Low or something like that. Band was in great form and set list for me was perfect path through their career and enjoyed the lighter night vs Hard Jam of recent tours. Loved the finale except with them sitting on stage couldnt see Neils etc. The venue with the weird stage frontage makes for unique setting but sight lines were probablly better higher up. I felt the sound was perfect with nice seperation of each member. Had a Virgin Wilco fan with me and he left impressed saying it was one of his better shows.

I felt the set list was perfect from start to finish with nice flow.

THe girl singing with Jeff was classic and believe I have been to 3 of her shows. Raleigh Charleston and Dpac possibly House of Blues.

Jeff's comment to fan confusing him for girl was classic and his one that I have been mistaken for girl and then saying being in front of Neils Amp had transormed him was great. And the gentleman Jeff is he goes over and personally apoligizes before starting next song. So nice to see Jeff able to enjoy the show and fans even with folks video taping etc which he doesn't like.

I rate it #2 after Raleigh 2004 at Memorial Hall.

I hope there are some recordings from last night that surface. I didn't check to see if tapers were on the Hill.

It was nice meeting you as well. I just finished uploading my recording of the show but am not pleased with it. I accidentally left the "auto level" button on which causes the sound to reduce during louder moments of the show. Are there any tech savvy folks here who could assist me with equalizing this recording?
