  1. Saw the Dex Romweber Duo at Schoolkids here in Raleigh yesterday. I was too honed in on tracking down that DRA 7" so was not really paying attention to them. Checking out some of their stuff online now and am kicking myself...

  2. Got to the Schoolkids in Raleigh an hour past opening and missed out on the Ryan Adams and Big Star releases. I did get one of the 2 remaining Justin Townes Earle 7" (636/1000) as well as John Hammond's So Many Roads and Robbie Robertson's How To Become Clairvoyant. Was cool to see so many people come out that a line was forming outside. They had some live music there, too.

  3. Justin Townes Earle. He's taking over a movie theater tonight! Really looking forward to this.

Lucky! How was it? Was just listening to him on the drive home this evening and thinking of how great his live shows must be.

  4. Courtesy of expectingrain.com (and a very cool audience member) the Beijing show is up and available for download in mp3 format. Beijing 04-08-2011 mp3

Bob's vocals are fairly clear on this one. It's def. no soundboard but makes for a nice listen regardless. This version of Simple Twist of Fate makes the download worthwhile in itself.

On a slightly related note, seems like China made a big fuss about Dylan not playing any songs that will cause any issues. I find it ironic that they let him open with Gonna Change My Way of Thinking :blush

  5. Never heard of him before but checked out some songs on YouTube. Been going through some girl issues this week and Right Here Now just made things a lot better! Thank you for this thread!

It is sad to see musicians like him not get a lot of attention. The way the music industry is now, I'd dare say that being mainstream could be detrimental to one's overall career and that these underdogs will find their place amongst the legends one day.

  6. Box of Vision

If remastered cds were included I'd consider paying $130 for this, but, as is, they'd need to knock $100 off for me to bite.

Ditto. It seems like this project was geared more to a very small niche which I am not a part of. I have been tracking down Dylan's back catalog on vinyl for the last few years so don't see the point in owning something like this. I could use that money to buy an original pressing of Love and Theft :thumbup

  7. I could have sworn there was a thread on Mr. Poole a while back but cannot find it. Anyway, it seems that the forum is in need of one (or another!) Anyone on the board familiar with Charlie Poole? Some say he was the first real country star as he sold 102,000 units of Don't Let Your Deal Go Down in a time when a "hit" record would only sell ~20,000 units. It should also be noted that there were only 600,000 phonograph players in the US at the time!

I've been binge listening to him for a week or so now and took the notion to take a road-trip to his old hometown today in Eden, NC. Such a weird feeling in knowing that the man who inspired such artists as Hank Williams Sr. and Bob Dylan is a mile down the road!

For those not familiar with him, I recommend checking him out. His music may take a little time to adjust to but once it hits you, it hits you hard.

  8. Thanks for the replies. Yes, torrents are fine. I am really only looking for 3 shows. 05-13-2003 Cary, NC, 06-11-2005 Greensboro, NC and 07-28-2009 Durham, NC. Seems quite difficult to track down live Dylan shows. I guess most people do not like to be reminded of the shows and want to stay far, far away from them when they are over, haha.

edit- Will register and check out that link, Howdjadoo, right after work!

  9. Not sure if it's cool to post this, but I was just wondering if there are any good sites out there where one can access Dylan's live shows? I am not looking for demos, official recordings or the like (I already own all of that stuff) but would love to check out some old Dylan shows I attended but lost the recordings of (my iPod bit the dust...) Hope it's ok to post this, if not, feel free to vanquish it back into nothingness, Mods.

  10. Regarding individual songs from this album; Sally Timms does a great version of "Half Past France" on her album "To the Land of Milk and Honey", just in case anyone is interested.

    LouieB

Jay Bennett covered Half Past France as well. It's on his acoustic Palace album along with A Child's Christmas In Wales handled by Ed Burch. As much as I love these guys, Cale's versions are far superior.

  11. oh, i've got all the outtakes, but it'd be good to see what the man himself has to say about them!

Would be nice if this new Chronicles chronicled the Blonde on Blonde sessions and a Bootleg Series release of BOB outtakes was put out in tandem. After reading Revolution in the Air 15 times, I find myself in dire need of all of those outtakes.

  12. That show is disgustingly addictive. My sister (14) is a huge fan, and I watched a few minutes of an episode over winter break. Next thing I know, it's four episodes later. I felt gross.

    Cool Wilco mention though.

For sure! I strongly dislike television shows in general, unless it's a documentary, and found myself hooked to this show for a bit. If I allow myself to watch an episode due to a probable Wilco reference, I fear the worse. You all keep me updated!

  13. I was seriously expecting to see him in his black cowboy outfit with that "wedding cake." btw, was anyone wondering about that thing he was holding that turned out to be a microphone? I thought it was some sort of flashlight. I sorta wish he had a longer harmonica solo. It kinda seemed like he wanted a longer one as the band wrapped the song up.

  14. Anyone catch Dylan at the Grammy's? He played a very cool rendition of Maggie's Farm with the Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons. Looked like he was a having fun up there! And imagine how much of an honor it was for those guys to play with him! Gave me the chills just watching it...

  15. I was on the fence about buying it. I was able to reserve one and got a confirmation to purchase a "personalized" set. They gave me 2 weeks to decide and on the 13th day, I ordered it. It's definitely a lot of dough, though - I figured I would be kicking myself once they release it in September, if I didn't get it. Hopefully Rhino/Dead.net does a great job on the set. Of course, if they do a poor job on this set, they will be shooting themselves in the foot with regards to future "tour" releases. (I had them put my kid's initials on it.)

awesome! congrats on ordering it. at the time of my previous post, I was not aware that the set had sold out. this is going to be a nice collector's item and I will venture to even call it an investment piece. look at how much that Winterland '69 set goes for on ebay. imagine how much the Europe '72 set will be worth! and that's cool to hear that your kid's initials will be on it. will be a cool gift to pass down to them at some point.

  16. oh wow, it is hard for me to not purchase the complete Europe '72 set. it will put me back QUITE a lot but it seems worth it, especially since those '72 shows are some of my favs. then again, most of those setlists did not vary much during that tour. perhaps I'll wait for a proper mp3 rip. heck, I'd pay $50 to buy these shows on mp3. in all honesty, it would be hard for me to justify spending that much on music (but the temptation is there!)
