I couldn't agree more. I talked to him after his show with Jason Isbell a while back at Double Door and he is just a great guy. Great performance as well, and he played and sang "Atlantic City" with Jason as well and it rocked.

I totally disagree with B.O.B. as number 1 as well, but no list is perfect.
I don't feel like looking through this list again, but were I Am Trying to Break Your Hearta nd Gold Digger really left out? Also, NO songs from Drive-By Truckers.
But all in all, not a bad list to use as a reference, but definately not a be all and end all - not even for the Pitchfork hipster crowd.

I've seen issues of this downtown (Chicago) at BAM! before. Is this the new issue? I could check it out and try to scan it if they have any left.

I'm going to go with...
Watermelon in Easter Hay - Frank Zappa
Clay Pigeons - John Prine (Blaze Foley Cover)
Late Greats - Wilco
Do You Realize - Flaming Lips
Sunday Morning - Velvet Underground

I'd love to hear all of these Jeff/Jay solo shows. Any hints as to where I'd be able to find them?

anyone have a what.cd invite?
-
anyone have any idea how long this will be up?
Sorry if this was asked already, I don't have time to go through all the threads. My job sucks.

and all the colored girls say "do do do do do do do do do do do do do do"
and all of "Only The God Die Young" at the time.
-
That thread seems to deal with the actual song openings and not lyrics but fine.

What are some of your favorite lines to begin a song? Never hurts to hit the ground running...
"Dreamed about killing you again last night and it felt alright to me"
-Tweedy
"Well my daddy didn't pull out but he never apologized
Rock n' Roll means well but it can't help telling young boys lies"
-Cooley

Brown Shoes Don't Make It - Frank Zappa

Let's Not Shit Ourselves is one of my top 100 songs of all time

Local H back in 7th grade...
Didn't expect much from them, and they were opening up for Silverchair at the time. They blew me away completely.
I've seen them over 50 times since and will never miss a Chicago show.

Not the best Stripes performance and I think the fact that Meg wasn't drumming is bad news for all of us hoping for some shows this summer...
But Conan's sendoff at the end of the show was absolutely amazing. You can tell that he meant ever word.

Great track. Really looking forward to this album. DBT did wonders for Betty LaVette and I think they are an even better match with Booker T.

Paul McCartney and the Hold Steady on the same day....

ok fine... I'll stick to 1 line, but I'm going to list 2...
when you ain't got nuttin' you got nuttin' to lose

I'd have to go with this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7zvGo0SEv8
Although I've never heard a song by 2Pac that didn't make me want to go deaf

Go buy 12 Angry Months by Local H
Great breakup record - pretty much covers everything.
-
Thanks everyone - never heard of this band until this thread and I checked them out and am very impressed.
I just hope they don't tour with Simple Plan and Plain White T's.
-
I've seen them between 35-40 times in my life (lost count due to some ticketless streetfests in my high school days). One of the best live acts out there and they are so criminally underrated it upsets me. Anyone who thinks they are just that "band that sings that copacetic song" really need to get out more.

oh yeah - Lifter Puller stuff too...
our teachers they call her Katrina, but really
when you're speeding towards sunrise,
Katrina's a bit much to say
now we just call her K

this is impossible, but I've always liked -
"The sun's not yellow, it's chicken"
Not his best - but I like it anyways
pearl jam - backspacer

I must say, I'm really enjoying this album as well. Probably my favorite of their past few releases.
Riot Act always gets tagged their "worst" album (and rightfully so in some aspects) but Thumbing My Way is probably one of my favorite songs of all time.
