Figurines - When The Deer Wore Blue
After an initial disappointment, this is starting to grow on me. Not yet sure how it compares to the first one (if that was their first one?).
-
Those song titles make me think of Human Touch/Lucky Town. I think he is another one on the list of bands I will probably not buy any cds of again. I don't really care for much of his stuff past The River.
No love for Nebraska? It's my favorite album of his and one of my favorites of all time.
-
Has Ray Charles not been mentioned because he is not considered soul? (I don't think I understand the difference between soul and R&B from that era.)
I guess it goes without saying that you should check him out if you haven't. It's probably impossible to single out one disc, but I think The Best of Ray Charles: The Atlantic Years is a good way to get your feet wet and Genius & Soul: The 50th Anniversary Collection is a good way to jump straight in.

How is that? I love Richard Thompson but generally never find cover albums worth returning to. I listened to Mock Tudor the other day and remembered how great it is.

Has anyone heard about whether there will be a second season? This site says no, but I have no idea how trustworthy the information is.

I would say start with one of these:
Fitzcarraldo
Dance the Devil
For the Birds.
I'm not sure what my ranking would be of their albums (I haven't been into to them for that long), but Fitzcarraldo would definitely be at the top.

Here is a translated version.

I'm not having any problems but I'm using Winamp.

Very excited about this.

Listening now. Thanks!

After reading the indie media roundup of Easy Tiger reviews today, I feel like RA got shafted. It seems like most of his fans consider this a strong release (at least 7 or 8/10 area), but the reviews tended to be around the 5 or 6 out of 10 area with not much to enthuse about. Seems like a review I would have written if I had only listened to the record about 2 or 3 times and then wrote about it instead of letting myself wrap my mind around it over repeated listens. I feel like a lot of the reviews got it all wrong, Easy Tiger ain't Ryan Adams-lite, it's just quality songwriting. I think many of his fans would agree this is really solid album, yes?
The album is doing fine critically according to Metacritic.

My order would be:
Either/Or
Figure 8
XO
Roman Candle
New Moon.
They are all great.
-
Summerteeth was released Mar 9, 1999.
-
Of Mice and Men-John Steinbeck
A quick read and one of my favorites.
-
Times are Central so it's in 30 minutes.

Much, much faster and good-looking too. Thanks for all your hard work.

I'm there. Any recommendations for good, quick places to eat near the venue?

She's one artist who I think I like more everytime I listen. My personal favorite of hers is Dry but Stories is amazing. This thread sent me looking at her website which said:
"A release date for the new PJ Harvey album should not be far off now..."
Good news!

It's kind of sad that there really isn't a decent place for concerts (except for the Ryman) here in Nashville. Music City my ass. Nobody really seems to come here (or at least nobody I like) anymore (except Wilco of course).
I would say that Nashville has several good venues in addition to the Ryman: Exit/In, Mercy Lounge, the Belcourt, and City Hall. 12th & Porter used to be great but hasn't done much that I've noticed since it reopened. I keep meaning to go to the Basement b/c I've heard great things about it.
As far as no good shows, just this week there is:
Tue: The Broken West (opening for the Comas)- Exit/In
Wed: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - City Hall
Fri: The Black Keys - City Hall
Fri: Heartless Bastards - Exit/In.

I'm amazed at how little attention this US Attorneys scandal has gotten. Do you think there's any chance of Gonzo quitting?
