They were on Leno.

I don't see any topics on it....I apologize if I missed it.

Pirner looks good. Real energetic. Same for Murphy. The song was decent....rockin...nothing out of this world, but similar to a good, straight-forward Westerberg song.

Also, the drummer was smokin' good.....a large, bald guy dressed nicely. I saw him play with Westerberg a couple years ago....a Minnesotan perhaps?

And SA is touring. Looks like big-ish venues. Can they sell 4-7 thousand a show?

I was going to give folks a heads up on the show but didn't. Sorry...

They sounded good. Can't say there was too much to the song but it had a catchy chorus and you could tap your feet to it. I thought the same thing about the drummer.

I find it surprizing they are playing venues that big. I guess maybe it has been awhile since they've toured but who knows if that is good or bad??? Doubt there would be too much interest in them. I would love to see them in a 2,000 theatre.

Nice to see them back.

They kind of reminded me of Wilco, the catchy chorus of Is that The Thanks I Get and both lead singers seemed to have a rough life. Pirners voice kind of reminds me of Tweedy, in the song last night anyway.

Elliott in the Morning in Wash. D.C. was chatting them up the other morning -- I got the impression they were making a local appearance, but I don't see anything on the list above. He played "Black Gold". I haven't heard that song in ages, but it still sounds fresh.

What do you folks think of the new album?

I've listened to it twice through (I finally bought an Eels album and the new Sufjan, so Soul Asylum hasn't been #1) but the first song screamed "Jon Bon Jovi" at me. His singing, the awful lyrics, "stand up and be strong." Gross...

I think the album has some redeeming qualities, but nearly every song is full of cringe-worthy lyrics that make it really hard for me to keep going.

they've always had some fairly cringe-worthy lyrics, all the way back to the 80's records. hell, the lyrics to Misery are awful too.

by the same token, Lately's lyrics are fantastic imo

i like it a lot, regardless. def their best since GDU imo
