MrRain422
Alright, then I'll share mine. First listen was slightly disappointing, but rewarding. For such a forward-thinking band, it's really a bit of a re-hash of what they've done before, but not as good. Nothing here nearly as imaginative as Frances the Mute. A few more spins and I liked it a bit more though. The second half of the album is especially good. As is the usual with the Mars Volta, it's going to take more than a few listens to really grasp the whole thing, but I think it will stay in rotation for quite a while. I could see it maybe ranking up there with Deloused in the Comatorium in my mind once it's all said and done. Not as good as FTM though. I would have liked them to explore some more areas that they haven't really touched on before, but the energy is there, the musicianship is amazing as always (Frusciante just wails from start to finish), and there's always something new to hear. Welsh Rich
My thoughts echo yours... disappointed on first play and it didn't really involve me... it seemed to be experimentation for experimentations sake, nothing coherant threads to pull you along. But yeah, the second half of the album rules a lot - Viscera Eyes is really good...
BobsRevenge
I agree with you. I was slightly dissapointed too. I was also one of the few that liked where they were going with Frances The Mute. I still like it a lot though. Less than De-Loused, and I think it will stay that way, but they haven't lost it. I love how Alderete (the bassist) gets parts that are worth his talents on this album. He's mind blowing in some parts.
