owl
Just a headline that only a Wilco fan could enjoy. That is all. (Here's the link in case anyone's actually interested in reading the story.)
viatroy
I was pretty tickled to see this on my recent sojourn -- Im so eastcoast-centric I didn't know it was a real place/thing.

viatroy
I imagine it's the midwest's cheesy equivalent of the Atlantic City scene. I've never understood the attraction to gambling or the surrounding culture. On the other hand, more power to the Native Americans who are in the game -- I hope they soak everyone that walks through their doors in a big way.
owl
Unfortunately, like the American economy, I don't think that Reaganomics/tricke-down economics apply to casino-equipped Native American economies either.
viatroy
hmmmm no? I thought the profits belonged to the tribe that owns/runs the gambling houses. Or perhaps they leased their rights away to outside corporations in exchange for what, beads? Did I miss the boat here again?
caliber66
I think the implication is that the money stays in the hands of few, while most of the native hoi polloi don't see any of it.

I love how by post 6 we are already off topic When I go to visit my dad in CT, we often go to Foxwoods casino -- not to gamble, but to look at the museum and to gawk at the hugeness of the place. They make much of the fact that the Pequot tribe has done very well with its casino and that it really supports their living and education programs.

M. (hristine
I smell like a combination of flowers, citrus and vanilla bean. (Fiori Di Sicilia) Plus, I am aboriginal American, and do not share in the income from the Casino Queen, or any other gambling riverboat.
