You Can Be The Stone
I remember leaving GMU on a weekday evening to see M. Ward, The Shins, and the White Stripes about a year and a half ago, and for some freakish reason, 495 Eastbound was clear as the sky blue sky. I'll be at the show tonight; I hope there's plenty of people-in-the-lawn-based banter again!

mrjonze
I'm driving from York, PA (anyone wanna car pool?) and have seen tons of shows there, the only one I hit traffic for was a Phish show waaaay back in the day. Park at the Mall and it's easy in and out...
xmynameisdan
Wow. That is my only word to describe today. I got there at around 3, my dad and I went back with Alex from WRNR (cool guy!) and sat down in this tiny ass room. Alex set up his recording stuff to tape his interview with Jeff, and we shot the shit for a couple of minutes. Then Jeff came in, we all shook hands, and Alex did his interview. My dad and I got a few moments to talk to Jeff, got a picture, and Jeff had to go. As he was going, he says "Any requests for the sound check?" I say "Via Chicago, no doubt!" and he says "Nah, We'll play that tonight" So I walk out to the sound check with a ridiculous grin on my face and watch them warm up. I have to give a HUGE thanks to WRNR and Record & Tape traders. I'll post the picture as soon as WRNR sends it to me. As for the show, simply amazing. Via Chicago was fucking money. Poor Places into Kidsmoke floored me..and a THIRD(!) encore! I'm still grinning!
isadorah
Hey Merriweather locals......We're headed down early tomorrow from the Philly area (should arrive by 4pm or so) and looking to find a nearby place to eat, drink and be merry pre-show. I'm told that tailgating is forbidden in the official parking lot (is that really true) and also that there's a mall across the street with places to eat. But would rather find something less sterile if possible. Thanks in advance for your help. were down front and center? i think you were right behind me during the show! Thurston Howell III
FYI - Columbia, MD is the world's most sterile town in America. You'll see. It was designed that way. I call it the "Biggest Industrial Park in the World" As far as cool places to go, I would say that the mall is your best bet unless you want to drive from the bar to Merriweather. If you don't mind driving, I would have to say the best bar in Columbia is Nottingham's. It's not too far. According to the people who live here, I just work here, you can: Go to the Champs bar in the mall. Very close and is walking distance. Didn't Edward Norton, Jr.'s father (um, I guess that'd be Edward Norton, Sr.) have a hand in designing that community? Amazing the random crap that can stick in the brain sometimes. Sounds like it was a great show. Given how fun it is to get from here up and across the DC area after work, I rolled the dice that they'll come back around the east coast later this year, at least NoVA or Richmond if not Charlottesville. I think Jeff had a good time at his solo gig, maybe he'll bring the whole band. Anyway, congratulations to all the winners and folks who got to go. And thanks to the tapers of this Charlotte show ... very nice! rcb

Columbia is in Howard county. No smoking in bars anymore. It's so true. I went to the soundcheck, and me and my friend went to the mall, and when we got bored with that, we still had an hour until gates opened. doh! ....and the worst part is that we live in Columbia, and should've known that. Tim Gunn
The show was awesome! Since I bought tickets back in April I've been counting the days until this show, and Wilco didn't disappoint. Just awesome! For me, what sticks out most (NOT in order of the show list) was Side with the Seeds, Shake it Off, You are My Face, Walken, Spiders, Impossible Germany (loved the green and red lights combo effect!), California Stars (one of the encores), Poor Places (right before Spiders, I think - really well handled - even better than from Kicking Television, and the extended distortion sequence in Spiders led into a clapping thing, and then they brought the house down - sweet...), I'm the Man Who Loves You, Sky Blue Sky, Via Chicago, Jesus, Etc., Kamera, War on War, I'm a Wheel, The Late Greats, Heavy Metal Drummer, Hummingbird...gosh they really put on a great show! I was hoping for At Least that's What You Said, because that's my favorite song they perform live, but I'll forgive them that. I was wondering if they were going to close the show with On and On and On, but no such luck... Nels was on fire most of the night, and it was cool when we all got to sing Happy Birthday to Pat (with creepy shirtless roadie presenting him a cake, and Pat looking on aghast at the proceedings). And Jeff recruiting a child grassroots fan movement... The only thing that sucked was that my wife and I had to rush to get there and we ended getting sucked into paying $8 for a decent stout, and like $9 for an OK pork BBQ sandwich. Oh well, at least there was no fee for parking... Tim Gunn
kinyark
Anyone know if there's a recording of this show? It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to and would love a copy of it.

kinyark
well i feel kind of stupid, I never even knew there was an After the Show section. I have the Just a Fan section bookmarked so I probably would have never seen it. thanks i did find a link already, just wish I could get mp3's instead of flacs, but it will do.
