countryfeedback
http://austinist.com/acl This is a pretty good place to get the latest updates on the festival and all things related to music in Austin. In years past, one of the music columnists for The Austin American Statesman (Michael Corcoran) would have a weekly music gossip column and he was great at announcing surprise shows before anyone else. He still writes a blog for the paper, so that may be a good place to check as well. It is extremely unusual for Stubbs not to have a listed performer for a Sat night in any month, let alone during ACL. That is why I am still somewhat optimistic. If I recall correctly when Wilco played their "secret" show at the Mercury (now the Parish) in 2002, the show was not announced untill approx two weeks prior. The show sold out in a day and Wilco didnt have nearly the following then as it does now. With all the people in town for ACL they could announce it the day prior and it would sell out. Stefanie
when the lineup was first released i heard from a very reliable source that bob dylan was going to play at stubb's on saturday night. i think the reason stubb's is still open is because they might still be trying to secure that. if it falls through, i have no doubt that wilco will play there instead. or maybe wilco will open for dylan if that show ends up happening. CommerceComet
These tickets never get sold or scalped or anything, do they? Not that I want to support that. I actually had tickets to the White STripes aftershow in my basket even though I knew I didn't want to leave the festival for it (I'd been logged in at 10 a.m. to buy tix to a different aftershow), but my morales got the best of me. I thought "no, I can't scalp tickets" and I dumped them from my basket. Then it sold out in 5 minutes and tickets are going for $250 and up on eBay. I bet if I'd kept them, I could bribe someone to get the Wilco tix for me. Oh-well. http://forums.viachicago.org/style_emotico...ault/ohwell.gif Anyone have any idea how much a pair of White Stripes tickets would bring? I have a pair and for the right price ... well ... maybe it could pay a good chunk of my trip. EDIT: Looks like they're averaging about $100 a ticket on craigslist. I bet they'd bring more the day of the show.

With all the people in town for ACL they could announce it the day prior and it would sell out.Seems like it would be kinda crappy to wait this long to announce a show, considering that most people going to aftershows likely already have made plans for each night and bought tickets. Wilco fans would either be shut out of other big shows if they don't play at Stubbs or be stuck with tickets to other shows if they do play Stubbs. Going back to 2002, that was actually the night before the first-year ACL festival started (was only Saturday-Sunday) and the whole thing was much, much less organized than it is now. Stefanie
i think it is crappy but i can't imagine that stubb's wouldn't book ANYONE to play there on saturday night. whoever they book is going to sell the place out. that's a lot of revenue that charles attal can't turn is back to. CommerceComet
only if you wish to bring bad concert karma upon yourself...I'll test fate. I put my White Stripes tickets on eBay starting at face value. I'm not trying to make a ton of money here. I just decided I'd rather take my time and see the Decemberists and maybe Bob, too. Seems like it would be kinda crappy to wait this long to announce a show, considering that most people going to aftershows likely already have made plans for each night and bought tickets. No doubt. If Wilco plays Saturday I might have to sell my tickets to The National, too.
Stefanie
i have a friend who would definitely pay you face value for your white stripes tickets. maybe even a little more.

tugmoose
I love Bill Frisell, but isn't the band already getting a little long in the tooth? "Please give a warm welcome to another middle-aged white guy!" How's about a little diversity. And by "diversity" I mean attractive young women. I'm not sayin'. I'm just sayin'. countryfeedback
Rumors are still strong that either Wilco, My Morning Jacket or Bob Dylan will be the saturday night performer at Stubbs. Most sources on the ACL message board are hinting that it will likely be Dylan. Appears Charles Attal is waiting for the single day tickets to sell out before announcing the surprise act. However, last year the festival never sold out single day tickets, so in theory he's just waiting as long as possible before pushing the button. Their confident (and rightly so) that the show will still sell out even if announced at the last minute. On a sidenote. Speculation continues to mount that Jeff Tweedy will be the 3:15 pm special guest at the Austin Kiddie Limits stage. Apparently past performers have included Jim James and Patti Smith. It's essentially a 15 minute set of kids music. So for those of you wishing to hear the Busy Bee song (or whatever the name of that song is) this may be your chance. Saturday single day tickets are sold out and have been for a while. I'm not sure what holding off on announcing a Saturday night show is going to accomplish other than having people buy OTHER aftershow tickets then not use them - which seems rude to those bands already scheduled to play and to the fans. Announce it already. People traveling to the festival could be leaving in just a few days. So which day is that 3:15 kiddie show rumored to be? Sunday? Thanks, Laura

Stefanie
yeah, i'm pretty excited about kweller playing at the kiddie stage because i have to miss most of his regular set on sunday. i've never missed seeing ben in austin so i'm pretty bummed. at least the 15 minute kiddie set makes up for that a little.
