mkush001
http://www.rocketsciencemovie.com/ Thought I'd start a thread in case anyone else heard about it. Looks like a great little indie film, comes out August 10, and the soundtrack is by Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, one of the greatest and most under-appreciated songwriters of our time. The soundtrack came out this week, and is really really fantastic, with some full new Eef songs as well as some beautiful short sketches that should be perfect for a quirky indie film. I was lucky enough to meet him before seeing him play the Largo in LA a little over a year ago while he was in town working on the soundtrack, and I kinda just want to talk about how great he is ... but anyone else gonna see this movie?? Sir Stewart
Weird that the trailer is stuffed with Violent Femmes songs, though.Looks cute.
Lammycat
I like that Clem Snide outfit. Good stuff. Looks like a decent enough flick, too.
yermom
http://www.rocketsciencemovie.com/and I kinda just want to talk about how great he is ... but anyone else gonna see this movie??He IS freaking great. Whenever I'm chilling at home with the headphones or in the car (without headphones) and blasting the Eef or Clem stuff, I'm always dropping my jaw at how awesome he is and how strange it is that Clem never broke through any further after 'Moment in the Sun" as the "Ed" theme. Too few people are listening to Eef. He is amazing...great lyrics (funny, tender, true), great energy in the music, awesome vocal stylings, all around amazing sound. How could anyone not fall in love with him after hearing "Enrique Iglesias' Mole?" I guess Clem's run is finished, right? But there is new material to be released as an album (hopefully later this year) as soon as there is a label to release it? And yes, I will be watching Rocket Science at first opportunity but probably only for the Eef.
mkush001
i'm pretty sure we've agreed about this before llynnowens, maybe someday other vcer's will catch on. word is there's two whole clem albums ready to be released but the band is through. and according to this http://www.current.tv/pods/fix/PD06274 eef's got another solo album coming out soon too. when i saw him live he played a couple of incredible new songs that are going to be on his next album, but are on this soundtrack also. you can hear a few at his free daytrotter session here http://www.daytrotter.com/daytrotterSessio...gs-eef-barzelay which is really really great. especially 'the girls don't care', its eef at his best

I can't find the lyrics anywhere so I tried to just hear them out myself and messaged the Eef Myspace profile some time back for confirmation on accuracy but alas, no reply. benjamin
opening night for it at the theater just around the corner from chez moi. Maybe I'll check it out. I never understand why people don't go see movies by themselves. It's not like you are having a conversation with anyone during it

yermom
Any MySpace "friends" of Eef will already know about this but there is a video for "I Love the Unknown" tied to Rocket Science here. Ugh...music videos. It suffers a bit from the "shot in the arm syndrome." The song is so much better than the video makes it seem but oh well, any success heading Eef's way that might come from this is long overdue.

Saint Genevieve
Ugh, I'd really like a moratorium on quirky indie movies about geeky misfit boys in high school. Good song, though.
Duck-Billed Catechist
Ugh, I'd really like a moratorium on quirky indie movies about geeky misfit boys in high school.I had the same reaction. Genre's a bit played out at the moment, eh? Well, I think the geeky boys grow up to make movie caricatures of themselves.
yermom
My initial reaction to the preview and to another preview I've seen recently (can't remember what for) was, "Didn't Wes Anderson already make this movie...like, three times?"
benjamin
Sigh.... So the movie theater that said was starting the film today, was not. They said that it was a problem with the distributor and the film won't arrive till next week, but the internet says it is showing there today. AREN'T THEY AWARE THAT THE INTERNET NEVER LIES!!!! benjamin
I caught this movie last Friday. Enjoyable. Not the greatest movie this summer, but it has its moments. I really enjoyed the soundtrack. I'll have to get it off of itunes. Ne1 else catch the film?
