Jazzmaster Question

Recommended Posts

I have a 62 Jazzmaster reissue that I have had for about a year and a half. I love the clean tone, but I am a fan of the gritty sound of Humbuckers also. A friend of mine mentioned once seeing Jeff playing a Jazzmaster with a Humbucker in the bridge pick-up location. Don't know if this is true, but it is a tantalizing idea. Does anyone know if this has been done before, and if so, what are the pro's and cons of the switch?

I know Sonic Youth has heavily modded Jazzmasters to have Humbuckers, which are then rechristened "Jazzblasters." I would suggest that you search for pre-'99 Sonic Youth recordings, you should be able to hear them.

There is a site that catalogs their gear over the years with extreme detail...you'll have to poke around, I don't remember the URL.

don't screw up a classic guitar...go buy some parts and make one with the pickups you want...just my two cents
