H to the ickle
That's how I play it, I felt like a champion when I figured out the descending turnaround part. Thanks for posting it and verifying that I wasn't playing it the wrong way.

anthony
For those who haven't this killer version: I just noticed that Jeff doesn't finger the D chord (E, really, w/capo) the same way in the tab above (the first part of the main riff) in the youtube video. Anyone know what he is doing?
os83
This version is great, thanks for the tab.
Guest Gym Teacher Man
This version is great, thanks for the tab. ever since Anthony threw this one up, it's become one of a few staple songs that i have to play everytime i pick up a guitar. here's to hoping jeff opens with this friday like he did last year. i'll forgive him if he instantly fucks up again too! Sounds so good. I just realize that Jeff fingers that intro riff a little differently then I do (based upon a vid someone posted recently of a solo show that showed his fingers real clear; love when that happens). He uses his pinky on the 5th fret making for an easy transition. I had been using ring finger (like a "C" chord up a level).

Although I'm sure that you have long ago figured this one out, I figured I'd give this one an update. Not so good at the tabbing thing, so I'll try to write out the riff. Man, Jeff loves building riffs off the D shape, and this is another one in drop D capo 2 (as you know)... then again, let me try this... all #'s relative to capo. Key is to move that pinky up to the 4th fret on the D string and pull your index off of the G string until the hammer on/pull off... that's pretty much it. But from watching the video, that is what he is doing. I just hope that it translates. The original version of the tab sounds just as good, it just isn't how Jeff plays it. Good Luck! Awesome version of this tune. Happy Friday!

Yeah...that is how JT plays it based upon various video evidence of late. But I have to admit that I like the sound of it better with the 5th string fretted - a better bass rumble, IMHO. I finger that part of the riff like this: ---0-------3---- index---0---- ---4---- middle---5---- ring---0---- a pseudo D chord then hammer with index finder (without actually being in a chord shape grip - probably bad form) then grab the Em9 chord: ---0-------0-------0-------4---- index---2---- ring---0---- the summary is this: my hands look like they are doing a million things (anti-slowhand), while JT looks as cool as a cucumber.
