i'm sorry, i know this has probably been discussed, but i couldn't figure out how to search for a date. anyway, i was wondering what band(s) back jeff at the 2.24.07 show? i couldn't find the show at wilcobase.com

i know that some of the band names are jokes (ie 'the family gardeners'). are these just fans that got to play along with tweedy?

Owl & Bear rules! So does Wilcobase but I'm not sure why these performances are not mentioned in Wilcobase, since other smaller gigs (political ones, for example) are. There's probably some reason I just don't know.

 

Yes Gabe, they are fans - various members of The Wilco Ensemble, part of the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago created to pay homage to JT/Wilco songs. They won 1 of the 3 Letters to Santa charity auction shows in 2006, enabling them to invite Jeff into their home in 2007 for a private performance. For their show, they splinter off into smaller groups (thus the name you saw, "The Family Gardeners") and perform songs with Jeff which they prepare in advance.

 

Maybe you can get some info about the event from reading this older thread.

cool, thanks a lot for the help. i listened to the whole show today in between classes. the whole concert sounded pretty good and seemed like it was a lot of fun.
