cryptique
A true giant in the industry. That said, I might not have recognized his name if it weren't for Billy Bragg: Norman Whitfield and Barrett StrongAre here to make right everything that's wrongHolland and Holland and Lamont Dozier tooAre here to make it all okay with you (from "Levi Stubbs' Tears") RIP, sir. LouieB
Wouldn't it be great to write just ONE song like Grapevine and live the rest of your life on the royalties. Nice fucking work...really...... LouieB
Twisted Acres
Learned about this last night between sets and was deeply saddened. We did a tribute to him in the second set, playing "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," "Just My Imagination," "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." It doesn't seem possible to think that Norman Fucking Whitfield is underrated, but he just might be. Rest in peace and immense props and gratitude to you, sir.
OOO
My hat is off to you, Norman. You wrote some amazing tunes.
cryptique
"Ain't Too Proud to Beg" The best thing the Temptations ever did. Even better than "My Girl."
