Groo
Hey all, I was struck with the greatest idea the other day - build a copy of Jeff's Uncle Tupelo bass. People make copies of artists iconic instruments all the time (Keith Richard's Tele Micawber, EVH's Start), so why not Jeff Tweedy? I'm a bassist, and a big Uncle Tupelo fan, so this bass is iconic to me in a way. I want to build a replica. I need your guys' help though. I need pics/info about the bass, and I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out. The Wilco Book has a great shot of all the wear on the back of the bass, which is what I hope to replicate. Looking at pics of it, it appears to be a black 70s Fender P bass with a red pearloid type pickguard and a rosewood fret board. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to glean much more info from the pics I've found. They're mostly small and grainy. I was hoping you guys would have closer shots of the bass, or at least be able to provide some more info on it (year, modifications, etc.). This is looking to be a long term project, but I will update you guys on any progress I make.

poppydawn
One of my friends takes bass lessons from a guy in St. Louis who bought one of Jeff's UT-era basses. If I ever get around to going to a lesson with my friend, I'll share any info I get.
LouisvilleGreg
Damn I had forgotten all about how great that Factory Belt site is. Very thoroughly researched.
