Ashes of American Flags

Recommended Posts

I thought it was only fitting to ask if anyone else has had a similar experience:

I have three dogs. They all tune out all sounds human (and to them, apparently irrelevant). BUT, as I watched for the first time Ashes of American Flags, my youngest dog, Dave, took particular attention to one part of one song -- the kind of attention usually reserved for dogs barking on television, and only occasionally at that. That part was when Jeff offered up a high pitched scream for the crowd in New Orleans, which he asked them to repeat when he sings "how can I...."

Anyone else observe a similar canine response? We may yet advance the veterinarial sciences in the process. (did I just invent the word "veterinarial" there? Never mind that in any event).

I once played "A Day in the Life" super-loud. A neighborhood cat was resting peacefully on my porch, but when the high-pitched swirling noise built in intensity towards the end of the song, the cat shrieked and bolted. I thought it was damn funny.

It wasn't a dog, but there you go.

when I graduated from college I briefly moved back in with my parents. Just before leaving, a friend's cat had kittens and I took one, a final souvenir of the good ole' foggy days. Anyway, the kitten took to suckling my little sister's extremely anti-social shih-tzu. It was quite bizarre.

I realize this has nothing to do with Wilco, or the Beatles. But it does link cats and dogs.

My dog Sam ran in and started shaking during the bit on Ashes of American Flags (the song) where Glenn hits the xylophone.

Just watching Kingpin right now so we'll how it goes....

EDIT: no response, how strange....
